During the preliminary hearing, the lead investigator testified that Stines called his daughter using both his and Mullins phone. I don't think this fact is in dispute.
Also, within hours following the preliminary hearing, the KSP spokesperson clarified that the daughter's phone number appeared in Mullin's outgoing calls log on the date and time Stines used his phone, confirming Stines called his daughter's phone. (Both cell phones had been sent to the State Police Forensic team and no other information was provided).
We know that shortly after the preliminary hearing, Stines attorneys publicly provided that they'd seen no evidence of an improper relationship between her [Stines daughter] and Judge Kevin R. Mullins, and seven months later, they've not changed their position. Instead, they've gone to several media sources to promote an insanity defense for their client.
However, we don't have confirmation from any source that Stines actually talked to his daughter from either phone or whether or not her name and number were part of Mullins saved contacts. Perhaps this is the phone mystery OP references. Otherwise, there's no dispute Stines made the calls. MOO
