The Leavenworth County attorney said Thursday that the case against a 30-year-old Atchison, Kan., man charged in the death this summer of a 5-year-old girl probably will be transferred to federal court...

Besides the murder charge, McGowan is charged in Leavenworth County with two counts of aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, unlawful possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, aggravated child endangerment, and fleeing and eluding.

Bond for McGowan has been set at $1 million. He remains in the Leavenworth County Jail.

​Sentencing continued for man who admitted to kidnapping, killing 5-year-old girl

Sentencing was continued on Tuesday for a man who admitted to kidnapping and killing a five-year-old girl.

Prior to Tuesday's hearing, U.S., attorney Tom Beall said the feds and Marcas McGowan reached a plea agreement where McGowan will spend the rest of his life in jail.

McGowan, 32, pleaded guilty to kidnapping and killing 5-year-old Cady Harris in July of 2014. Harris was the daughter of McGowan`s girlfriend Christina Harris.

The plea agreement is only a recommendation agreed to by both the defendant and the prosecutor. It will be up to the judge who will either accept that agreement of reject it in favor of a punishment he finds acceptable.

McGowan's sentencing was continued until November 15.
