And now she is dead. What a sad story this all is :(

I hope the kids will all get to know each other. They had six all in all?

Yes, six children total. Thankfully they are all alive as far as we know.

Justin Rey, 35, screamed out in court Thursday that his rights are being violated. Rey told a judge there's no proof that he's done anything wrong. "You are talking about law and justice, and you guys are doing so much illegal stuff," Rey shouted in court. "The most wealthiest county in the United States and they think they are going to get away with it! It’s not right! I have religious rights, parental rights, marital rights! My wife kills herself and you take our children! It’s totally illegal and wrong!"

In court Thursday Rey argued with Judge Brenda Cameron, claiming that he can't be held on $1-million dollar bond for the child endangerment charge.

Rey says he's being slandered based on assumptions that are not proven, yelling that his marital, parental and religious rights all are being violated.

Before the judge ordered deputies to remove him from the courtroom, he shouted out that his wife, Jessica Rey, killed herself and the state kidnapped his children.

"I have media here that is nationwide," Rey said. "Basically an O.J. Simpson case for something that’s not proven, nor even happened! Under assumptions and non probable cause! There was no miranda rights read! I got slandered to my name! I’ve got illegal searches and seizures! Illegal tampering with government documents, lying on government documents! Illegal chaos!"

Rey denied that he and his children were living in the storage unit, saying that investigators are wrong. He also yelled that he is not mentally unstable.

A lawyer that Rey tried to hire told the court he is not representing him. The public defender also told the judge their office has a conflict and won't represent Rey either. A preliminary hearing has been scheduled for November 8.

I am not sure anyone will even be able to do a mental evaluation on him, let alone find an attorney to represent him. In fact I am not really sure what to think is wrong with him. jmo

Isn't usually a public defender assigned and they have to take the case? I didn't know that they can reject a case.

I'm repeating myself, but this is such a sad case.

I'm not sure what to believe. It will be interesting to follow the trial.

I agree, how can they say the whole public defenders office has a conflict of interest and can't represent him? Who is supposed to defend him then?

I imagine that different PD offices handle conflicts in different ways. However, I'm familiar with PD offices handling conflicts by disqualifying the entire office rather than an individual public defender. (One reason this happens is because more than one public defender might handle one criminal case at different stages of the process.) In the event that a defendant is eligible for the services of a public defender but the PD office has a conflict, the court will appoint a private attorney to represent the defendant.

ETA: The online docket supports my belief that alternative counsel will be appointed.

The entry regarding the most recent proceeding reads as follows:

COUNT 1 21-5601(b) PLAINTIFF APPEARS BY S HILL,DEFENDANT APPEARS PRO SE ,CONTINUED BY DEFENSE ,DEFENDANT ORDERED TO PERSONALLY APPEAR AT NEXT COURT HEARING ,COMMENT DEF REQUESTS APPOINTED COUNSEL-PDS OFFICE HAS A CONFLICT (BMC)(GO)

(Note: I don't think I can link directly to the case, but it can be found by searching his name or by case number 17CR02733.)

His behavior in court is not that surprising if you've watch his youtube videos. IMO, yes there's some mental instability. He is the exact type person I think of when I say all the strong left or right leaning political speakers need to tone it down. If someone is already feeling a certain way, and all that extreme thinking is thrown to them, it amplifies their beliefs. Extremist aren't helping.

I hear him say Jessica committed suicide in court. I don't see a woman, who JUST gave birth, committing suicide. Had it been weeks or months since delivery, then maybe if post part depression or psychosis had developed. Otherwise, it doesn't make sense.

I think whatever lawyer ends up taking this case is going to have a heck of a time getting him to tell the truth, and trusting the lawyer isn't going to be an easy task for him.

If she committed suicide why did he chop her up?
Ugh. They should have stopped having kids years ago!

I hope this man is taken to a locked down psychiatric facility. He really needs to be stabilized. RIP Jessica. Prayers for the children.

they can declare a conflict and the government pays another defense attorney.

bbm - Maybe what he is saying is that because she refused medical care during pregnancy and childbirth she died, so he calls this a suicide. Just an idea.

My guess is he cut her body into pieces so he could get rid of it and won't be held accountable for her death with the children being taken away yet again. jmo

He seems paranoid to me (she might have been as well). I still hope he didn't kill her.

How do they determine COD when someone is dismembered? I know they can still run toxicology and such but is an autopsy even possible?
I know this is horrific to even think about. I've just never thought about this until now. Tia

They will be able to tell if she has wounds that were made whilst she was still alive. For example if she was stabbed or shot.

Here is a new MSM story that focuses on Jessica's background and offers more of her sister's opinion. "It appears that something went wrong during the childbirth and medical help was needed, she said. But Rey would not seek help because he feared authorities would take away their remaining children.

As a result of that decision, “he neglected her chance of survival,” Monteiro said. When Jessica died, he cut up the body to hide it so he could keep the two children, she said."

How horribly sad, that they wouldn't seek medical treatment. Jessica could not leave him it seems and suffered his wrath unfortunately. To me Rey not getting medical help and cutting her up is the same as murder. He is a horrible being!

If you map this, you'll find they were very, very close to a hospital....

RIP, Jessica; kids, your Mom loves you & your Aunts love you!

It's unfortunate that their experiences in life, whether real or perceived thoughts, backed their beliefs that their children would be removed. From what we know at this point, I don't believe either of them would have taken the children for medical care. Nor would either seek prenatal care or medical intervention for the delivery and after birth.

Getting him to agree to any mental defense, IMO, is impossible. Whether they can even get a psychiatric testing or not... I have no idea. I guess they could get someone to look at his past, and his present actions, watch his videos, read his posts, etc, but get him to fill out forms?
