There are only so many spots in each Pre-K, and according to the usp site, each child must have a risk factor, and must be driven. I imagine he would continue where he was placed. The teacher is legally limited as to what she can and cannot say

Do we know for sure the Dad has full custody? Reason I'm asking is it was questioned why he is going to a school farther away from where he lives. Could he live with mom and was staying at Dad's for the holiday wkend? Could it be his wkend to have him? I may have missed this info. IMO

Once again I have been following this thread since Lucas went missing, but haven't posted until now. My heart is already so heavy with the amount of children's cases we have had here lately on WS when most did not turnout like we had hoped and prayed they would.

I pray that little Lucas will not be one of those heart rendering cases, and will have a joyfully ending.

Just the thought that the stepmom may have abused Lucas in the past infuriates me as a loving devoted stepmom of two beautiful girls who now are wonderful moms themselves.

I am so blessed for they both call me "Bonus Momma" and it thrills me that they do so. They are grown now but when they became my/our children in 1984 they were 8 and 14 at the time. It does my heart good to know they know I love them deeply as if I had birthed them myself.. just like I do my other three children and have never ever mistreated them nor made them feel excluded in any way.

We became a family with five children the day we married, period. My hubby nor I have ever called our children step children 'step' when referring to them and they have never referred to their siblings as step siblings either. To them we are one family of two parents with four sisters and one brother. And none of it was hard for me or my hubby to do this. From moment one we knew inclusion of all of our 5 children equally is what they all deserved in their lives and ours. My three bio children have called my hubby "Daddy" for over 30 years because they know they are so blessed to have this man as the daddy they have who has been the best role model always showing them how to be kind, loving, and inclusive adults to everyone.

I say all of this.... because there is nothing that pains me more than to even think of a step parent being neglectful, mean/cruel, and abusive to their stepchildren when they also are true blessing from God. Our family wouldn't be complete without the five children we are so blessed to have.

I hope and pray this is not another horror story where the stepmom resented little Lucas. He deserves to be loved and cherished by all who have been blessed to be around him and have him in their lives.

I can think of only two situations in this case and both are equally heartbreaking. 1) He may have gotten up when the adults were sleeping and went out to play on his own and someone in the neighborhood saw him all alone and took advantage of that. Just like what happened to Sandra Cantu who was kidnapped, raped, and the murdered by Melissa Huckaby when she was outside playing alone. Or little 6 year old Christopher Barrios who also was playing in his neighborhood, and was lured into a home filled with three pedophiles who lived close by. :( No one in those cases saw it happen either.

2) OR.........it involves the stepmom and the results may be just as grave for this precious little boy.

Due to knowing Lucas had suffered from abuse in the past I am more inclined to believe #2 even though it breaks my heart to even think about that or actually any possibility that does not end well for this beautiful sweet boy.

I will remain hopeful until he is found. We can never lose hope until all hope is gone, and I know his family is clinging to that hope, and praying for a miracle like we all are.

Please find Lucas soon.

Sorry for the long post everyone. I don't post nearly as much as I use to do so when I do , I know my posts can be rather long. Sorry.

IMO

(You're the best. Awesome post, as always, oceanblueeyes. I really loved to hear how they call you Bonus Momma...that is soooo cool!) )

(Eta: O/T, you think yooour posts are long, gosh you should have seen mine yesterday in Abby's and Libby's thread...)

I've already been listening to the scanner off and on since Saturday. I just didn't know the scanner thread existed. At this point I don't care what I hear. I just want to hear SOMETHING.

Not to be a broken record because I say this with sympathy to your situation and realizing it must be a very helpless feeling to not be able to actively "do" something and in desperation to hear word, any word, I would still kindly advise against going to the basement or listening to the scanner on your own.

As a verified insider, you could be quite helpful here in answering questions or thinking outside the box, to possibilities that might not have been considered or explored yet.
My heart goes out to you and I hope Lucas makes it home safe so you can enjoy more of those mini birthday celebrations and trips to Chuck E Cheese you spoke of fondly earlier.

A girlfriend would not be able to enroll/transfer him to a new school without Dad or a general or special power of attorney I imagine.
Might explain the move and still attending the old school if Dad has indeed been gone since prior to the move.

Thank you SO much for sharing this! I had no idea this existed.

Please don’t listen to the scanner if you aren’t used to it and if you are family waiting for news. For gracious sakes. I listen for hours every night (for reasons I cannot state) and I had to ask myself if I were in your shoes if I’d be able to do it... it’s very easy to be confused and think you hear something positive or negative. Obviously, it’s your choice, but please, guard your heart.

I also took a stroll down the street and saw lots of attached garages so that does make sense.

The elementary school mentioned the msm article yesterday has a boundary zone that puts Lucas' new residence WAY outside the boundary. So technically he should be attending a school much closer to the new place (and there are at least 2 elementary schools, much closer than the one he's currently attending). And if dad is working out of town during the week, then step-mom much be driving him to school?

Not even sure any of that matters in any way. Just something that stood out to me.

I have no clue what it's like where they live. But where I live in Nebraska, we have 3 elementary schools in our district. But the preschool program is only in 1 school. And it's for special needs students (developmental delays, autism, speech issues, down syndrome, etc) and peer models. So that's always a possibility too. Or maybe once they are enrolled, they don't move them do a different school until a new year? Many possibilities, I guess.

In my opinion, since the investigation is now pretty much self-contained, I doubt much/anything will be relevant downstairs at this point.

About the shoes, it was 70* Saturday so totally believable to be outside without shoes. I was.

An American Red Cross Disaster Relief van just left, and the police horse trailers are leaving again now.

With all of the vehicles and such leaving the park now...it makes me wonder if the press conference will have much info at all. Doesn't seem like they found anything. I hope they have other leads to follow!

Edited post because my mind has failed me in regards to District 259s schedule.
I *believe* kindergarten was full day and Pre-K was half day but I am not sure. The info online is limited to just listing the schools that offer Pre-K programs, not if they are full or half day.

https://www.usd259.org/cms/lib/KS01...Interest form 2017-18 - English - Spanish.pdf I found this form to fill out stating that there are 3 hr. a.m. or p.m. sessions. Lucas's school is 8:40-11:40 or 1:40-4:40, but it does not say how many days.

I just drove into the park entrance at the Great Plains Nature Center, and I see no police presence.

Something went on in Lucas life for Dad to have custody. Is Mom in the picture? In Jail? Deceased? Wonder how Dad ended up with custody when he works out of state and is gone for long periods of time. Why would the courts agree to this?. Is this another case of our system failing a child? I realize not all children should be with their 'blood' relatives. There's been horrific cases of biological parents abusing children. It's just upsetting to me that a child was left with Dad's either wife or girflfriend when he had family.

Maybe no related, maybe not important, I don't know. Just thoughts.

5 yrs old. So innocent and young.

I agree. It bothers me when a non family member is caring for a child full time. In this case it sounds like weeks at a time.

If the other parent is unable then grandparents, Aunts/Uncles should be given the chance to babysit. Family who would want to spend time with the child should get priority regardless of which parent they are related to.

It should be in all custody agreements, I've seen it in a few. Though we don't even know if they went to court for this. It may have been a decision made between the two of them.

Kyron's Dad had custody for similar reasons, they felt it was best for him at the time. Then when Mom could take him, they didn't want to uproot his life. It's possible that these parents were also doing what they felt was best for Lucas.

I would guess the morning session is younger kids and afternoon is older. Again, just guessing that because of my experience so it could be different there. But for our school, the morning session is the 3 year old class (you have to turn 3 by end of July that year) and afternoon one is the 4 year old class (have to be 4 by July.)
