Why would a SWAT van be at the scene?

I noticed that as well in the video last night, it was parked outside the home, iirc and was going to mention it...I'm going to guess control center? Maybe has techno stuff in there, similar to a mobile command post?

The dad and his girlfriend (they are not married. I saw someone ask if she is stepmom or dad's girlfriend) have lived in Wichita for several years. From my understanding, they moved to the home he went missing from a week or so ago.

Was Lucas's dad there when the move took place? Did he help move them or other family that would know Lucas?

Yep, command post was my first thought.

Why would a SWAT van be at the scene?

The SWAT vans often have communications equipment, scanners of various sorts, and other support technology that can be used for other purposes besides SWAT.

Just guessing that they were using it as a mobile command center, or maybe using the infrared search capability to scan for a child hiding under brush, etc. Or possibly just to move people around more easily.

I’m always amazed at our furry friends that help. I wonder if they sense the urgency and such. I know weird thinking.

I wonder if Lucas had pets or liked them:(

I just wanted to touch on the custody situation and pose a question. As far as custody, the dad having 100% and the gf/am doing most of the work, unfortunately this happens more than not. The problem is, people lie, court systems have so many cases that they don’t take the time to investigate claims made in court. For example, with my personal case, dad moved out of the county we lived in. He moved near my work and used that as an excuse as to why we could share 50/50 custody if our daughter went to school by him. He also made claims about how much time he spends with her, does school work with her, and drops off/picks up at daycare. In reality it was all BS. His wife (SM) does it all. She is the one that takes care of everything with our daughter on his time. If he’s not around, he doesn’t offer the time to me, he just assumes it’s ok for SM to take over. I have no issue with it, because honestly if she wasn’t doing it, it wouldn’t get done by him. Also when he does do it, it’s an inconvenience to daughters schedule. Meaning he drops her off at daycare at 6am, meaning she’s getting up at 5-5:30am with him. If the courts would have taken the time to investigate they would have known his claims weren’t accurate. But they don’t. Maybe he wasn’t honest at court about who would really be watching their son a majority of his parental time.

Question-in our case we each have the right to have a daily phone call with our daughter while she’s in the other parents care. Do they have anything like this? If so, when was the last time Bio mom spoke with Lucas? Was she denied communication with Lucas? What was the relationship like between bio mom and gf/sm?

I am Not a SAR expert but I assume that even a highly trained SAR dog would not be able to determine if a child’s scent was left by walking, ( being carried), into a house or car or going out of it. Unless there was evidence other than scent still there to indicate direction, such as footprints or, (excuse me!), blood droplets, etc.

I suppose that a dog could tell direction from a scent trail that goes for a greater distance because the scent would be weaker at the beginning trail and grow stronger as the dog get closer to the subject of the search.

We scent train hunting labs and I’ve just started the basic FEMA SAR course. The dogs I’ve worked with need a scent on the ground to track. They’ll go back and forth until they hit the scent where the subject in question touched the ground. From my experience, they can only air track (bird off the ground, child being carried) if the scent is very recent. Like a couple/few hours. However, I’m very new to the SAR training.

Please don’t listen to the scanner if you aren’t used to it and if you are family waiting for news. For gracious sakes. I listen for hours every night (for reasons I cannot state) and I had to ask myself if I were in your shoes if I’d be able to do it... it’s very easy to be confused and think you hear something positive or negative. Obviously, it’s your choice, but please, guard your heart.

It doesn't sound like anything new. This sucks so bad. :( Where are you, Lucas?!?

I do find it odd that they aren't having citizens search. In other missing child cases, they have had the community to come out and do grid searches. I think they must know much more than they are releasing.
