It does seem reporting anonymous doesn't always remain anonymous. Unless it is just a lucky guess/who the child was last with and/or questions that person may ask that the person being reported knows who it is.I think it's suspicious that after Lucas told his great grandmother about the kicking and hitting and she reported it, she never got to see him again. This, to me, would imply that it was most likely a family member who did the abuse and either the step-mom or the father punished the woman with no more visitations. Step-siblings is a possibility, but it's the parents who'd control who got to see Lucas when not in school. I don't think it would be just school related.
This reminds me of other cases where when concerned relatives or friends/neighbors made formal complaints to the authorities about abused children, they were then completely cut off from contact. In more extreme cases, the whole family (like the Turpins) would leave town or even state to make sure they were 'hidden' from prying eyes and (in their minds) interfering busybodies.
