I agree, kicking is more of a child thing. Just to further expand on this speculation about Lucas being hurt at school and those who live in Kansas please pardon my ignorance if I'm wrong. If Lucas was being hurt by other children, either at school or in his neighborhood, it could possibly be the result of either racial or physical bullying. Racial because of his name, "Hernandez" or physical because of cleft palate/dental condition. We all know how cruel children can be, especially those who are given free reign to bully. This would explain the difference in photos of Lucas. I've noticed in photos where Lucas was with family, he appears to be a very happy, cheerful child. I haven't seen the typical physical traits in photos of abused children with Lucas (for instance, looking forlorn, fake smile, physical distance between him and other family members, etc). I have noticed though in some photos that appear to be school related, like the ones on his missing poser, he doesn't have the same look as he does as when he is with family.

I don't know about his specific school but I do know that at our district the pre-k kids are not too much apart of the general population. They mainly have their own recess and lunch time and in our district, even their own bus. They may at times participate in activities with the kindergarten classes but it is in very supervised situations.

Our student teacher ratio is also low in the pre-k classes and each class has a teacher and and an aide. Since his teacher posted what sounded to me like a heartfelt concern for him I got the impression that he is in a caring school situation that would be quick to notice any bullying and intervene. Just a gut feeling I had.
If any injury was reported that may have its origin at school the school staff would be interviewed and investigated if warranted. Again, just going on my own experiences.
I hope and pray the little sweetheart has a loving and supportive school situation. It would at least be a comfort to feel that he did have a setting to look forward to each day where he would be cared for and nurtured.

Police still in the area of the pond that has been mentioned. I did not see LE our walking around the perimeter of the pond though.

Driving by Harrison Park next.

How is the weather now?

mine did the exact same thing! they would get pain in the legs and back. mine are 6"2 and 6"4 now, the youngest is slated to be 6"2 by his 24 month growth chart. I birth monsters I suppose lol.

I always knew when my son was going through a growth spurt. First, he would start at a normal weight, eating everything in sight, two to three plates of dinner, etc, including emptying the fruit bowl.

Then he would start getting small annoying pains in his legs- many go through this when a growth spurt happens. At this point, he would get a bit chubby for about 2-3 weeks to a month, then one day, wake up about 3-4 inches taller and thinner again. It was surreal to watch after a few times of it happening.

He's six foot three now- you can imagine my grocery bills not just during growth spurts, but also when he played hockey, soccer, basketball, track and field, cross country, and baseball. That boy just couldn't be filled up, I swore he had two hallow legs! He also has two sisters that also went through those spurts with him and did the same sports, too.

When he plays hockey now, he comes in starving, to this day.

So, yeah, some of those photos aren't overwhelming me in terms of weight, as it can truly happen quickly that the kids thin out and then eventually gain more weight back and return to a normal weight again. From normal weight, to chubby for a bit, to skinny, within a two to three week time span, with my son, anyway. Not sure about anyone else's sons, grandsons, or nephews on here.

If my daughter had stayed on track with her 24- and 36-month charts, she would have been seven feet tall.

She was very disappointed when she stopped growing. She wanted to be Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.

just like Evan :(

Yes I agree. Always hold out hope. But in the meantime, eliminate other possibilities.

The moving a week prior gets me too.
I wonder if something happened in the old house and before anyone got wise to that fact, they moved out. Maybe they didn't figure it would go this far.

The weather in Wichita is 24 degrees with a 17 mph wind. It is cold! It has also rained and sleeted today, and another storm is moving in tonight or tomorrow. I live an hour east of Wichita, and trees, plants, etc are covered in ice. I can't get my van doors open because they are frozen shut. :(

How is the weather now?

In the 20's.

In anycase after looking into this a bit more this situation screams of a very disfunctional family. The real mother does not have custody and the step mother chooses to sleep while a five year old is still awake during the day. Now granted five year olds are usually at the point where you don't have to constantly have your eye on them all the time but still choosing to go to sleep during the middle of the day and let them fend for themselves during that time is not a very smart idea.

Hard to say at this point how much abuse was going on but it is becoming pretty clear there was a good degree of neglect going on. Which again isn't that uncommon for that part of Wichita. Schools on the south side of Wichita have to go to measures to make sure the kids get fed because they know that a portion of the kids aren't getting fed at home.

Someone needs to speak up and tell LE where to find this child!!! No little one should be away from home in that weather, with another sunset coming.

Speak up!! Help Lucas.

They may want to check out the previous renters/owners of the house as well. Couldn't hurt. IMO

I'm trying to think of possible situations....

Could an accident have happened during the move and someone panicked and hid him? That puts his disappearance before Saturday, though.

Just brainstorming possible ideas....especially ones that fit searching more than one park rather than a specific park.

It was also mentioned earlier - flu deaths. Kansas is getting hit hard right now.

It's hard not wondering if his disappearance was indeed prior to Saturday IMO. Since we haven't heard when someone saw him last besides stepmom, have we?

There is police presence in the area but really no activity inside Harrison Park. Not surprising as it is a small park and there isn’t much room to hide anything- other than a pond. I don’t think they are to the point of calling in dive teams just yet.

I was walking in the area earlier. There is about an inch of ice and sleet covering the ground. Any evidence is probably buried. It is expected to snow again for the next two days— but should melt off on Friday when it’s supposed to reach 50 degrees.

We might not hear much until then unless they are able to break through the ice and sleet to get a good comb through the area.

Wish I had a better update.

Thinking LE has talked to neighbors at their previous home?

The unruly passengers in that news story were kicking other adults on the cruise.

If that’s how they fight... that’s dirty fighting. And I seriously doubt it was their first fight.
