Here is an old article that says Mr. Seacat was arrested Friday, and the article was originally published May 13th, 2011. May 13, 2011 was a Friday.

"The charges, filed Friday by Kansas Attorney General Derek Schmidt, allege 35-year-old Brett Seacat killed his wife, Vashti Seacat, 34, and endangered their two young sons in setting the fire at their Kingman home."

Thank you, Thundar! I need to read up on this case!

I know. Wish I could find a timeline of events. But alas, I have a meeting. Pffft me.

I found an old article that is still available for reading that said he was arrested Friday May 13, 2011. So why he still had that note in his pocket is a mystery. Unless it was a note to himself for the police interview.

The article is linked upthread in one of my posts!

According to HLN, there were problems with the defense's handwriting expert. She is semi-retired, and not licensed anywhere. She also had to admit on cross exam that there were discrepancies in the two writing comparisons, which the jurors got to look at closely.

The prosecution had a handwriting expert on the stand earlier who said the suicide note was forged.

"On Monday jurors in the trial of Brett Seacat heard testimony that suggests the victim, Vashti, was scared for her life as she filed for divorce.
Jurors heard from a KBI handwriting expert, who says the suicide note was a fake, and a marriage counselor, who says Vashti was worried for her safety as she filed for divorce.
Day eight started with defense attorneys grilling a KBI handwriting expert. He says the suicide note found in Vashti Seacat’s journal was a forgery and was slowly traced or faked by looking at other entries in her journal."

I added more to that post. In the investigators testimony he said that the note was found just before he was arrested. The 7 hour police interview was also done just before he was arrested. In the other article that I linked it says that Mr. Seacat was charged Monday May 16th in court. How long before that he was actually arrested I have no idea. There is not a lot of time line information available online.

It would be so easy to figure out if the note had been written prior to the phone call with the counselor if we knew the times. Since the defense tried to put the 'how to talk about mom's death with the kids' spin on it I will assume that he was arrested after he spoke to counselor.

older article with information from the neighbor, Burel Nicks:

"I didn't see no trouble until about three months ago," said Burel Nicks, Jr.

That's when Nicks, who lives across the street from where a raging house fire killed Vashti Seacat Saturday morning, began noticing changes in the woman's behavior.

"She just started dressing different and losing weight. She would be gone 2-3 days at a time," Nicks said. "She would have her clothes in a rollaway and she'd be gone 2-3 days at a time."

Shelby are you thinking of going to the trial?

I've been tweeting back and forth with a news person that's covering the trial from inside the court room and I just asked if there are generally seats available for the public to come and view.....I was thinking about going down....but, then again, it's pretty comfy sitting here in a t-shirt watching online lol.

How stalkerish.... She was probably finally feeling good about herself.

She'd have her clothes in a rollaway? A bed? How could Mr Nicks tell what was in the suitcase or rollaway (bed?). Was he helping her pack?

How selective his memory is since he couldn't remember anything when the state tried to cross examine him.

I think he meant like a suitcase with wheels.

He does seem very pro-defense.

Which is odd since he didn't testify to that at all. I guess that would throw that whole "she was depressed" theory out the window.

Shelby you could show up there at court in your t shirt and fit right in and be our eyes and ears if this defendant tells the court that he doesn't want his testimony televised or recorded! Not that I know if a defendant has the right to demand that.

I think he meant rolling suitcase.

And very nosy too. Still how would he know what she had in the suitcase? IMO he was projecting that this woman would pack up and leave her home every now and then for a few days. I wonder if he came onto her and she rebuked him?
