FBI investigation into Breonna Taylor case still open after indictment

"FBI Louisville continues its federal investigation into all aspects of the death of Breonna Taylor," spokesman Tim Beam said in an email. "This work will continue beyond the state charges announced today."

Cameron said today that federal law enforcement is looking at how LPMD obtained the no-knock warrant.

Keeping the gender and race make-up of the grand jury a secret (along with not releasing the files-- with the caveat that there were criminal charges pending) is going to create a further division that possibly race factored into the grand jury decision. It is a shame to sow even the hint that the grand jurors could be biased. JMHO.

I agree. The NYT reporters question about the GJ make up was inappropriate.

This may not come out as intended....but, why did they file any charges at all? I mean if no charges for murdering Breonna (say her name) - this is like a total slap in the face. It's like saying you deserved to die while sleeping, but sorry we endangered your neighbors. SMH Praying for Peace....
Because Grand jury determined officers were justified in returning fire.

I never understood how No Knock warrants were a good thing and this case absolutely proves why they aren't, IMO.

Not only did they get it wrong, the NKW "justifies" their actions and they won't be charged for her murder.

Murder charges would require intention, and none of the officers set out to murder someone that day.

A tragedy all around, for her family, for the officers involved, for the families of the officers.

Respectfully, I hope there will be no rioting that would endanger lives and businesses, which would add to this tragedy.

Oddly, I think the question is very appropriate. Further, I think the lack of disclosure will sow seeds of doubt among people of color who think the system did not provide justice for Ms. Taylor. No need to hide the make-up of the grand jury--- it should fairly closely match the make-up of the community. Declare it loud and proud, especially if there is nothing to hide. It will calm the community to know if all were represented.

@TessaDuvall

Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear calls on Attorney General Daniel Cameron to release all the facts and information he can about the Breonna Taylor case online. He says Kentuckians should be able to see the facts for themselves. Beshear was Kentucky's attorney general before he was governor.
Gov. Beshear says being fully informed can hopefully help people process, heal and move forward.

1st Degree Murder, yes. But they could have charged 2nd Degree Manslaughter, and did not. Probably because the Prosecutor & DA didn't want them to. JMO.

Years ago, NKW were fewer and farther between. They steadily increased as did tragedies like what happened to Breonna. We can see in Breonna's case that the information to get the NKW was stale (from January) and there was not good intel on the home (she was not alone, was with a partner and he owned a gun, also her sister was regularly in the home). Without good data on who is in the home, adjoining homes, and in the area, the public is a great risk-- especially as more and more people own guns and will defend their castle. The issue of disparity among the race and use of the NKW is a whole other topic that has been studied.

Ismael Mena--- wrong address given, warrant served, Mena owned a gun and pointed it at the officers believing he was the victim of a home invasion.

Kathryn Johnston (92 yo) shot and killed, thought she was a victim of a home invasion, police planted drugs in her home after she was killed (officer convicted).

Cheye Calvo, mayor of Berwyn Heights, MD, NKW served based on pot mailed to his home. Both of his dogs were killed. He was not a drug dealer and had nothing to do with the package. Not a violent criminal or had evidence of criminal past. Why a NKW?

Hank McGee killed an officer during a NKW incident. He was not tried. He was white. In another Texas town, Marvin Louis Guy (a black man) shot and killed an officer during a NKW and was indicted.

Lots of names and circumstances where the NKW has left a wake of dead or injured people who were innocent of any wrong doing or whose wrong doing should not have carried a death sentence.

JMO but possibly the Grand Jury viewed the shots fired by the officers as justifiable because they were being fired upon.

Just a guess as to what they could have taken into consideration.

I'm sure that's right & the AG said as much.

I hope people unhappy about this don't use this as an excuse for violence. You can make changes through the legal venues instead of destroying property and hurting innocent people.
I could not agree more, am I happy with this decision NO, but this is the system we have to work with. Getting in the face of LE, throwing things at them, burning property and being destructive will do nothing to bring Breonna back.

walking around with guns getting in the faces of the other side will also not bring Breonna back.

Reform is what is needed and hopefully with the settlement to the family last week that is going to happen.

taking no-knock warrants out of the picture will hopefully keep another innocent person and their family from going thru this again.

I dont know that anything will change with this case but it is time for all of the investigative reports to be released so there is true transparency in this case. Hiding it behind the blue line is also a reason that people are peacefully protesting on our streets in the country, if there are no arrests going to happen then let us see all the info they are hiding. IMO

One more person who won't get justice. She died in her home, doing nothing to anybody and after watching her tv with her boyfriend. She was struck between 5 and 8 times. Got no help to stanch her blood from flowing from her body. She died alone not knowing what she was being shot for.

this outcome is sickening-- how does a woman sleeping in her own

Makes me mad and sad--- an innocent woman shot to death in her own apartment
and nobody is accountable----it is truly sickening

Somebody should tell the cops that.

More violence definitely won't make the situation better. In reality, neither will anything else.

Certainly expecting ANY sort of changes going forward, or Justice in a case like this, is pointless. Protest or No Protest. Violence or No Violence. It's just going to continue.

People need to move past the Anger Stage, and into the Acceptance Stage.

The people who act violenly because they dont like the lack of justice, only
turn off people who are sympathetic to their cause.
