Hmmmm so did Grandma not want Grandpa knowing she had a guest over? I think this child definitely needs to be removed from that home!

Custody issue between mother and grandma... he suspects it may have something to do with her missing. He talks, laying out his theory, his thoughts at the time, etc. Most LE don't do that with the public.

Grandma’s delay in reporting Charlee missing could have had serious consequences for Charlee. If, for example, she was being held by someone in a home a delay of a few hours would have meant she spent more time with the bad guy.

Or if someone had abducted her she would have been two hours further away from home by the time Grandma reported her missing. I realize this wasn’t the case here, but it could have been for all anyone knew at the time.

Grandma definitely didn’t act in the child’s best interest when she turned up missing.

I just watched the full video. OMG I think I love that sheriff! His kind heart really shows. He thanked the FBI for getting involved then humbly gave them ALL the credit for Charlee being found. He didn't sit there and explain everything HE did to find her. He said he believes in his heart of hearts that the FBI are the reason Charlee was found, and got all choked up about it. Some other things he said that REALLY stood out to me:

1. Robert Bailey told the sheriff he'd been at the house till 4:30 AM getting high on meth with grandma. He never saw grandma go to sleep during that time.

2. Grandpa knows that grandma is not sober and continues to leave Charlee in her care.

3. The strange/random text between grandma and RB twenty minutes after he left.

4. Grandma didn't report Charlee missing until nearly two hours after she supposedly woke up.

5. Mom was hiding from LE for hours before she showed up to look for Charlee.

6. Penny was NOT with Charlee when found and was a pretty good distance away from her.

ETA: He also said they are going to check and see if there has been any "Foul Play." I'm not exactly sure if he means violence against Charlie, or if he was talking about the cadaver dogs hitting on the pool.

Concerning the bolded.... he actually said he wasn't sure that Grandma EVER reported her missing. Grandma called Grandpa while he was at work. Grandpa called the Mom. Sheriff wasn't sure who reported her missing but doesn't think it was Grandma.

Oh, and Charlee FREQUENTLY walked to the mailbox and got candy/sweets from the mailman with no adult present!

Exactly. Someone told on her for doing meth and when asked she finally fessed up to it. She didn't willingly offer up that information. Instead she said she was busy and distracted.

Yes. And we still don't know why mom or dad don't have custody.

Did mom lose custody, or did she never have custody to begin with?

If she lost custody, was it before or after she started dating a violent sex offender?

Did she give up custody willingly, or was she forced to give up custody?

IIRC the sheriff said something about the father not seeing Charlee in months. For the most part has he been an absent father?

Say what? Charlee has a "normal" life? She's living with her grandparents, grandma spent the night doing meth with another tweaker and apparently doesn't bother to get up until late morning. Maybe it's normal in Bizarro World. SMDH.

This case reminds me a little of Rainn Peterson's case. The sheriff felt it might have been a custody issue - the mom had some harsh words about the great-grandparents who had custody and the sheriff suspected she may have arranged for Rainn to disappear in order to show negligence. Despite his investigation he wasn't able to gather enough evidence to make a case. Rainn went back to her great-grandparents and is doing fine.

I hope Charlee will end up in a home where meth use isn't "normal."

The great grandmother doesn't look much older than that. And you do kind of hope that women have grown up a bit by the time that they are about 50, especially when they are a mother and a grandmother.
I see this everywhere, that the supposedly grown up individuals wants and needs take precedence over anything else.
