ugh...can't say I'm surprised. It seems like a lot of these cold cases UIDs are documented, then flung to the side and ignored. I don't think it's even nefarious or suspicious, just sometimes LE is in over their heads with current cases and doesn't want to "waste" their time with cold cases. I've contacted a few law enforcement agencies about a possible ID, been met with confusion by a bored-sounding receptionist and a promise to pass on the info, but then no calls back and no changes/new rule-outs to the NamUs profile.
For potential identifications, I've had more luck with contacting the NamUs Regional Program Specialist and informing them. I believe if they think it's also a possiblity, they send it to LE and, if possible, get an official rule-out. I've gotten a few rule-outs added that way, but have also got answers like "it's possible but there are no dentals/DNA so we can't be sure".

I've often had better luck going through the medical examiner's office. In many states they're the ones in charge of unidentified remains, either officially or by default.

Hey, sorry I forgot to update! I've had great luck with my search and found someone to help me. No closer to an ID, but I am in possession of his autopsy report and am in contact with the person who handled his case at UFL. Will update soon.

Hi, can you advise us with the information on the autopsy report? If you don't want to post it publicly you can private message the contributors on this thread and sent it to them as an attachment. Thanks.

JMHO...
I believe this is a NASCAR commemorative coin.
I've circled the checkered racing flags, above the number 99.

The number 99 Exide Batteries sponsored car was driven by Jeff Burton in the late 90's. Maybe he was a fan of Burton and got a keepsake to commemorate Burton's first NASCAR win and winning the very first NASCAR race held at the brand new Texas Motor Speedway in Fort Worth, TX in 1997?

Exide Batteries were the sponsors of the 99 car. Roush Racing, which had facilities in both Livonia, Michigan and Concord, North Carolina, were the owners.

The picture you've attached is not a NASCAR commemorative coin. Also, the image as you have attached it is upside down. It is a button from the deceased man's jeans. It is an early trademark of the denim wear and jeans company "The Buckle," a chain based in the Midwest.

Post #69 with a photo by @MadMcGoo, and my post #272, among others. I’d recommend looking at the website of The Buckle, and you can see the history of the company. Look at the “our story” section of the website, and you will see a trademark used in 1967 and later with the same “bb” markings. Our Story | Buckle Corporate

It is a match for the trademark at the center of the button, but there’s no image of the button itself on the company website. The lack of a scale beside the button does not make things easy.

Sure, I can see how this looks like bb when you flip the "thing" upside down. But, what do you think that area that I circled is? It is a part of the design and yet, it has no explanation.

As far as "Made in China", I don't think I've ever seen that on a button (which, being a button is in itself, an assumption).
Sure, "Made in USA", but "China" prior to 1991? Not totally convinced that is what it says.

Just thought that you guys had found the exact match in a photo online somewhere. Especially when getting a pretty concrete "No" response to my query.

I think the button is still open to interpretation. I can't remember anyone finding an exact match.

It would be worth a try to send the image to The Buckle, and ask about older buttons from their jeans and captions around the center. The object is on material with a bold weave, and it is likely that the object is fairly small - most weaves are not large enough to indicate a scale larger than a button. If the KSP answers questions on the case, perhaps they would tell us the diameter of the item.

Wow. Wasn’t expecting that! Interesting that they both were listed on the FBI’s website. Glad Othram could give his name back. I hope there are people who are now able to rest easier knowing he’s not on the loose someplace.

Well, I can't say I saw that one coming. I guess his DNA wasn't in CODIS?
