Louisville authorities searching for 14-year-old boy from Shively

LOUISVILLE, Ky. —

Louisville Metro authorities are searching for a 14-year-old boy with autism who has been missing for several days.

Metro Safe issued an advisory this week for KB who they said was last seen near the 4700 block of Van Hoose Road. That's in the Shively area near Western High School.

The 14-year-old boy is 5 feet, 2 inches tall and weighs 102 pounds. He has brown hair, a mustache and blue eyes, according to Metro Safe.

Metro Safe officials said KB was last seen wearing a black jacket with a gray camo hood. He also had on black pants.

Relatives told WLKY that the 14-year-old has been missing since Sunday. They held a prayer vigil for the boy this week in hopes of getting the word out about his disappearance.

A spokesperson for the LMPD said there are no new updates to report as of Friday.

Anyone with information about KB' whereabouts should call Shively police at 502-448-6181.

I hope he's found safe today. What kind of scenario is suspected?

Praying for KB. I just don’t see much info out there about him.

KB made the trip to the nursing home multiple times each week to visit residents and staff. It doesn't seem likely that he would have gotten lost but I do wonder whether he had an accident along the way. The Google Maps walking route shows he would have had to cross Mill Creek @ Quinn Drive unless he took the route along Rockford Lane. I wonder about the creek's water level on the day he disappeared and whether those areas have been searched. I hope he is somewhere safe and they find him soon. He's in my prayers. MOO

  • KB, 14, was last seen a week ago near the 4700 block of Van Hoose Road.
  • ...he asked to go see his friends at the nearby nursing home around 3 p.m. ...
  • Staff at the nursing home, Signature Healthcare at Rockford, said KB visited often. [snip] But he didn't show up on Sunday. Staff members told WHAS11 they checked the security cameras and couldn't find him.
  • Employee TB started searching as soon as he heard the news. "I checked the ditch lines, dumpsters, everywhere," he said. "Anything to find this kid."

There are 31 compliant registered sex offenders within a 1 mile radius of KB's home on Van Hoose Rd. One (Cavalier Dr.) lives 3 minutes walking distance away from the nursing home while another offender (Thomas Ave.) lives 7 minutes away. I hope LE has checked up on these two.

This is especially concerning, because according to his family KB talks to everyone and trusts everyone. He doesn't have a sense of danger. His aunt talks about that in the video and article at this link:

Shively 14-year-old with autism still missing after Christmas

"He's the most trusting kid," Blevins said. "Like, he has no idea that there are predators out there. There are people that don't have his best interest."

They last saw the teen at his home not too far from Cane Run Road and Rockford Lane in Shively. He has autism and requires medication.

"He'll go up to anyone," Blevins said. "Like, literally everyone in this neighborhood knows who he is. He'll just go up, knock on doors, say can I help you out for a little bit? Or just making friends. The term that 'he's never met a stranger,' -- it has never applied to someone more than KB."

His trusting nature has his family worried this could be worse.

He looks to me like he probably has Fragile X Syndrome, and autism is a symptom of that.

Sure hope he's found soon, and safe.

WHAT??????

I'm glad he was found, and apparently safe! I had read that there was a rumor he might have been seen boarding a bus to Austin, but it didn't seem very credible. Someone else must definitely have been involved.

Thank you Jesus! I'd like to know how he got there as well. At first I thought it was Austin KY which is a little over 100 miles away. TEXAS? Dear God. IMO
