That’s the case with a few of these...same with the cloth necklaces. I’d never seen one before, but there are 2 (I’m thinking maybe 3) who had one and both were hanged. 1996 & 2004. Are these popular in the area? Or is there somewhere they could be getting them, maybe a group that passes them out...

I know around here you see that sort of thing but it’s black plastic rosary. Although to my understanding they are not meant to be worn as fashion jewelry. I wasn’t sure if that was the case here. Talk on other threads of migrant workers frequenting some areas of KY throughout the year comes to mind. That would explain people knowing “Jose” but him remaining unidentified...

Contrary to how the PM makes him appear, Jose was a very small guy.

It looks very similar to Catholic devotional scapulars Scapular - Wikipedia

But it looks handmade and the initial doesn't look religious. Unless it's M for the Virgin Mary?

Here’s one of the other ones I’m thinking of... The Doe Network: 1072UMKY . Maybe the other one wasn’t a KY case, but I know it was discussed and it looked very much like these! o_O:thinking:

Looks like we can safely conclude the dude is probably Hispanic and Catholic.

Is there any state(s) in particular that the migrant workers tend to come from? I know Jose claimed to be from Chicago and he could be but most times some or all of their back story is fabricated.

Would never have guessed this!

I wouldn't either--I was looking for connections between Chicago and Louisville and the Cuban community came up as one.

He could be local, or related to someone local

Wow, Iam Cuban and totally had NO IDEA of this! A know that recently ( I mean like in the last 7 years or so)they had been going to Nevada but never heard Kentucky. It’s always been Florida (Miami and Hialeah) Texas and Union City NJ.. Very few left here in NY. Thanks for this info Carbuff.

I'm not Cuban, but I travel to Louisville fairly often, and I didn't know about it either. I have to drive there today to pick my wife up at the airport. Maybe we'll eat at Havana Rumba!

I was updating the spreadsheet and saw his NamUs page was down. I wonder if we’ll ever get to know who “Jose from Chicago” was.

@iulia back in March when you posted that the Namus was down, did you notice any MP file disappear at the same time?

No MPs that would fit were removed in the same time frame. The closest time-wise were MP7495 Paul Cerniglia, 22yo, missing from Los Angeles County, CA since 10/07/1994 (removed March 28) and MP15679 Jose Guevara Lugue, 38-39 ys, missing from Cameron County, TX since 02/28/2001 (removed February 21-22).

I got a bit excited about JGL but I can't find additional information about him, and I think he may have been identified as UP59024, male found on 01/20/2002 in Brooks County, TX, whose profile was removed in the same time frame.

I didn't search exclusively for men named Jose, but I did I saw the profile for Jose Flores, missing from Chicago since 1994, was removed four days ago. That gave me pause, but the timing doesn't work and other stats don't match either. 5619DMIL - Jose Angel Flores
