Where is your location on this map? Google Maps

Sorry Knox - missed your question earlier. My location is .7 miles from Bill Dee Hall Branch Road. Possibly not the right location, but definitely more secluded. I'm not familiar with the area, but I wonder if LE would have had to block the road to investigate and reporters couldn't get closer. Possibly wrong on all counts. Shrugs

I'm not totally confident of the location of "Kentucky Route 582, near Bill Dee Branch, in the Pine Top community" as referenced in the article.

Bill Dee Branch seems to refer to the river.

Bill Dee Branch, Pine Top, KY at DuckDuckGo

In Appalachia, the holler will be named after the creek ("branch"), usually.

And edited to add: if you go to google maps, and zoom out a bit, you can see how isolated, rugged, and heavily wooded this region is. It's a wonder anyone could find anything there.

I found a newspaper article from the July 29 issue of the weekly Troublesome Creek Times newspaper in Hindman, Kentucky about the body that was found in the Pinetop area of Knott County on Saturday July 17.

I was only able to read one paragraph from that newspaper article as it required a subscription to read the entire article.

The paragraph I was able to read reported that identification is still pending on a deceased female body that was found on Bill Dee Mountain in the Pinetop area.

We now have news media confirmation that the gender of the body found at Pinetop is a female and at this time identification of that body still has not been determined.

According to the Attempt to Locate page, Sidney was found deceased. More searching reveals similar information from others on SM, which I won't post due to TOS.

However, KSP have yet to release an official update that the woman found was Sidney. Including a SS of an article re. the body found. There's a picture of Sidney, and it says, "Positive identification is still pending to determine if the body found...is that of the missing Sidney Winskey."

The scanned Troublesome Creek Times newspaper article reported that the deceased female body was taken to the State Medical Examiner's Office in Frankfort but the body was too badly decomposed for positive identification.

The article also reported that the body has been transferred to a facility in Tennessee capable of using dental and DNA methods to identify a body and advised that it may take some considerable time for the badly decomposed female body to be positively identified.

Is it likely to be her? Not sure that she was missing that long to be so badly decomposed. I have no knowledge of decomposition rates but am sure it depends upon several factors to include weather and how an individual died.

The August 12 issue of the Troublesome Creek Times newspaper in Hindman, Kentucky has an article stating that identification continues on woman's body found in Pinetop.

The newspaper article is reporting that the Knott County Coroner is confirming forensic odontology (dental) has identified the body found July 17 on Bill Dee Mountain as Sidney Jacobs Winskey.

The newspaper article also reported that the body was taken to University of Tennessee for forensic anthropology.

After pondering about this newspaper article, I believe that the identification of the body found July 17 on Bill Dee Mountain is tentative for now.

The reasons why I say tentative is that no other news medias in the region has reported about this.

And also the Kentucky State Police has not yet released any official update confirming that the body found is Sidney.

Heartbreaking for her husband to be the one to find her. I hope they find out who the guy is that she left with. Wonder how far her grandmother’s house is from the hotel where her sister was staying.
