Ireland Kyran Durnin, 8, Drogheda, 28th August 2024

It infuriates me how the onus is always placed upon social services or some other agency. All the while the parents/family are neglecting the child they chose to bring into the world and claiming child benefit payments on their behalf. And it seems may even be capable of using another boy to dupe the authorities or grandmother and lie about moving schools and area. But yeah let’s slam the social worker and school JMO

Maybe because such agencies are the only ray of hope for abused, tortured children?

After all they live in society.
Civilized society.

PS

But hey,
If you were asking me, sorry,
I live far away from Ireland &UK.

Kyran Durnin is now at the centre of a murder investigation by Gardaí.
The Republic’s children’s minister has asked the state’s child and family agency to submit its handling of the case of missing boy Kylan Durnin for review, as speculation mounts that Gardaí are to start digs as part of their murder investigation.

The eight-year-old, from Drogheda in Co Louth, was reported missing in August along with his mother, Dayla Durnin (24).

However, the boy’s mother was located in the UK, and Gardaí have launched a murder probe in relation to Kyran.

It is feared the child may have died up to two years ago, at the age of six. He had attended a primary school in Drogheda up until April 2022.

It has been reported that authorities in the Republic believed Kyran had been taken across the border into the north by his mother, and that child benefit payments continued to be paid

On Friday, Justice Minister Helen McEntee said that gardaí must be allowed to complete their investigation and ascertain what happened to Kyran. Questioned if Tusla had failings with the case, Ms McEntee said that if any State agency has not done their job properly, they must be held to account.

“This is a devastating case. This is a really very upsetting case when you look at the facts and you read what has potentially happened here,” Ms McEntee said.

“Unfortunately the view is that he is most likely dead and has passed away, but we need to understand what’s happened. We need to know have there been failures here, where have those failures been taking taking place, but also who is responsible for them.”

I wonder why Dayla Durnin hasn't been arrested yet? All the main UK news stations are now running reports on poor little Kyran's disappearance and probable murder. The police are searching the family's former home in Dundalk. I hope they find Kyran there because he could be in the Cooley mountains and never be found. I know the area well from childhood.

It's being reported that Kyran Durnin could have been missing for two years before he was reported missing. The grandmother claims he was asleep on the sofa the night before Dayla and Kyran went missing.
The problem with this is if he has been dead for two years than the grandmother had to of known he didnt stay at hers that night so is lieing. Why?

Part of the reason we create those institutions in society is because we know not all parents are fit. It would be a much more perfect world if they were.

There's no one excusing his mom or grandma in this. But cases like this can highlight weaknesses in these institutions that need to be addressed to help protect children.

Just IMO, but unless there's malfeasance or extreme negligence by individuals or institutions, I don't see any benefit to blaming them individually. Doesn't fix much and usually it's a problem that needs solving on a higher level than what one person or institution missed. In this case, I can see two changes possible that it may highlight the need for:

1. Having some sort of centralized repository of reports when children cease attending schools so that we know when they stop attending, any reason given and someone can follow up to try to conform their enrollment elsewhere.

2. More funding for social work agencies and a policy of taking updated pictures of children who make contact with them to be kept in the family's file so they can be properly identified on visits.
