LA- 11 inmates escape from Orleans jail, including multiple accused murderers. May 16, 2025

The smart ones will go far, and fast. Get lost somewhere in Los Angeles or Chicago. Don’t go home, or other hangouts.

That being said, this is reminiscent of "Prison Break".

Courtnie Harris of New Orleans, 32, and Corvanntay Baptiste of Slidell, 38, each was booked with accessory after the fact to the May 16 escape.

Harris is accused of being in contact by phone to assist one of the five fugitives still at large. Investigators said Harris was in contact with the inmate before the jailbreak, and later drove two of the escapees to “multiple locations in New Orleans” while they were on the loose.

Troopers did not disclose which inmate is primarily associated with Harris, but a law enforcement source told Fox 8 she was assisting escapee Leo Tate.

The agency said Baptiste was in contact by phone and social media assisting Corey Boyd, who was captured Tuesday night in the 1400 block of Iberville Street in New Orleans. Troopers say Baptiste also brought food to Boyd while he was hiding in a residence.

The Louisiana State Police announced on Wednesday that 32-year-old Cortnie Harris and 38-year-old Corvanntay Baptiste were arrested and charged with felony counts of being accessories after the fact. They were both booked at the Plaquemines Parish Detention Center, officials said.

"Furthermore, investigators determined that Harris transported two escapees, who remain at large, to multiple locations in New Orleans," police said.

Baptiste, according to the state police, was also in contact by phone and social media with escapee Corey Boyd, who was captured by police on Tuesday night.

Authorities alleged that Baptiste "helped facilitate getting him [Boyd] food while he was hiding in a residence."

A friend could have driven them to Houston (4th largest population in the US) and back before the jail break was reported

A maintenance worker named Sterling Williams was booked on principal to simple escape and malfeasance in office in connection with the Orleans Jail inmate escape. Sources tell WDSU Williams said he was forced to help the inmates. https://tinyurl.com/4mumvh9p

I hope this guy is not the vent for the pressure the jail officials and politicians are feeling.
So even if he cut the water and was helping that should not excuse the fact that all of these safety concerns have been spotted and had having those concerns voiced to them about the issues, did nothing.
Federal monitors repeatedly warned Sheriff Hutson about inadequate supervision inside Orleans jail

"
According to WVUE, authorities say his absence went unnoticed until nearly 10 p.m., when someone from the public called the jail questioning if Johnson was still in custody. A headcount and review quickly confirmed he was missing.

I beg your finest pardon, a random member of the public called the jail and was like "hey by the way is Tra'von in his cell" and they were like "oh D*&^, Tra'von is not in his cell"... 6 HOURS after he escaped. I mean I am not a jail expert but keeping an eye on them and making sure they don't escape should probably be a higher priority in Louisiana.

NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - Four people accused of helping with a recent jailbreak at the Orleans Justice Center had their bonds set between $1 million and $2.5 million, according to court documents.

Texas authorities have captured two escaped New Orleans inmates Monday night.

Connie Weeden was charged
Connie Weeden was charged with being an accessory after the fact.
A Louisiana grandmother has been arrested after she allegedly helped one of ten inmates who escaped from a New Orleans jail earlier this month.

Connie Weeden, 59, was charged last week with one felony count of accessory after the fact. Police said Weeden was in contact with her grandson, Jermaine Donald, before and after the escape.

She also allegedly sent cash to Donald through a cellphone app. Weeden was booked into the St. Tammany Parish Correctional Center

Now with eight escapees recaptured, the manhunt continues for the two remaining inmates –– Antoine Massey and Derrick Groves

Antoine Massey is no stranger to breakouts. The 33-year-old has a history of escapes dating back to 2007, when he broke out of a New Orleans juvenile detention center after being arrested for armed robbery and aggravated assault, according to nola.com.
(…)
Two years later, Massey faced a charge of attempted simple escape in Orleans Parish, according to online court records.
(…)
At 27, Massey and another inmate broke out of a detention center in northern Louisiana in broad daylight by cutting and slipping under a chain-link fence in the exercise yard, Chief James Mardis of the Morehouse Parish Sheriff’s Office told CNN last week
(…)
Massey has also twice cut off electronic ankle monitors, according to Matt Dennis, an employee with the company that operates the monitors who spoke to CNN affiliate WDSU.
