The child’s mother, Maya Jones, and her boyfriend, Jermaine Robinson, are both charged with first-degree murder. Prosecutors say the charges meet the criteria for the death penalty.

Jermaine Robinson is scheduled to go before a judge Monday morning in his first hearing in the case.

Defense motions have delayed the case, including a trial that had been scheduled nearly a year ago. Attorneys for Robinson have filed numerous motions ahead of this hearing, including one seeking to prevent the death penalty
