LA - LSU student, Allison Rice, shot to death in car while waiting at RR Crossing, Baton Rouge

The “urgent manhunt” had me thinking that they had a suspect named.

It sounds like there's screeching tires/a crash, then a few seconds gap, then gunshots, and then i hear another crashing sound. Is that the sound of a crash at the beginning of the video?
Some are saying that’s the train “slack”. But I’m not sure what that means. And I’m also not sure if this sound recording is from security footage or this bullet recording thing they have around the city to alert them to where gunshots are coming from…
I can’t remember the official name for the gunshot recording thing

I’m hoping that sine LE is being so quiet - (haven’t even released a still shot of ANYTHING from any security footage) that they are hot on someone’s tail????

Also, locals want to start a go fund me for a reward for info. People here think it’s a likely someone youngish without impulse control, this likely bragged to buddies. so dangling a big cash reward would lead one of his buddies to squeal on him. But the family isn’t really biting on offers to start a gofundme. So this leads me to believe that the fam knows more than us from LE…..
Maybe????
I pray this is so???

Seems like a "gang initiation" type of shooting to me, semi-random as in someone knew when the train goes through and that it is loud enough to somewhat conceal gunshots. I expect they laid in wait and Allison was just unfortunate enough to get stopped there with no other cars.

Does anyone ever expect to be killed in their car? As far as million dollar houses a few blocks away, they won't continue to be worth a million dollars unless their owners start exerting their influence to clean up.
How should they accomplish that? Not being snarky. I wondered what ideas you have, because crime is up in my area, too; although, it doesn't feature million dollar houses.

Does anyone know if freight trains have security camera(s) usually? I seem to think that the lead car at least does. But that's just a guess on my part.

I have a feeling Allison was targeted.
The killer made sure she died.

I doubt it was random/gang initiation.

RIP to the victim.
Condolences to family :(

I'm sure those tires we hear squeezing are Allison's. As much as we'd like to believe being shot to death is just "lights out" unless the shots are carefully aimed, a person lives for seconds to minutes - even after being shot multiple times. The sound I'm hearing combined with the report of her being in "mid U turn" make me think someone stepped out from hiding and unloaded (sounds like a large caliber revolver to me). She realized she'd been shot and stomped the gas to make a U turn to escape before she lost her strength.
Yes. It is believed she threw her car into reverse to get away from perp either after first shot or immediately after seeing/being frightened by the perp then hit that pole. Or maybe the perp yelled get out the car or she was like oh hell no and threw the car in reverse and he shot her as she reversing. she did the right thing. NEVER get out the car. You know? That’s what we are taught. Now it’s like run over their butts! But no you can’t do that. Geez. What a crazy world we live in. Why didn’t he just let her go?!?! He wouldn’t have been caught for just telling her to get out the car. I’m guessing he was just embarrassed because he had “buddies” nearby watching and he wanted to rob her and he was “embarrassed” that he wasn’t successful??? Or it was indeed a gang initiation and he failed to get her out the car so, again, he was “embarrassed”

So awful!

Seems like they’d be going too fast to capture anything???

Some are saying that’s the train “slack”. But I’m not sure what that means. And I’m also not sure if this sound recording is from security footage or this bullet recording thing they have around the city to alert them to where gunshots are coming from…

There is an inch or so of free-play between the couplers of each rail car. When the train starts to move forward the whole train doesn't start to move at once. When a stopped locomotive starts to move forward it pulls on the first car in line and it's coupler makes a clanging sound as it takes up the slack (free-play) between the couplers. The first car pulls on the second car which makes a clanging sound. The second car pulls on the third car which also makes a clang and so on down the line. If you're sitting at a railroad crossing you usually don't here this clanging if the train is already moving. But if you're sitting at a crossing waiting for a stopped train you will hear it when the train starts to move.

Here's a video of lots of clanging:

There is a big crash sound before the shooting. What is that? Then the shots, and squealing and fainter sound of collision. It could be train slack, the sound when a train starts to move and the small slack between cars is take up, results in a very loud crashing sound that goes down the length of the train. But that would perhaps indicated the train had just started to move or just come to a stop, which seems unlikely.

People in affluent neighborhoods are pooling their money and hiring private security companies to watch their homes. I just checked online and quickly found news articles for residents hiring security in Atlanta, Los Angeles, Chicago and St. Louis. I'll bet there's a lot more.

"A college student who was shot at more than ten times while waiting at a train crossing in Louisiana was eating fries when she died.

Allison Rice, 21, had been on her way home from a night out with friends and was shot dead at around 2.30am on Friday near railroad tracks.

Detectives are ‘at a loss’ as to the motive behind the brutal slaying of the student, from Geismar, who has been described as ‘bright and bubbly’ by friends.

The Louisiana State University Senior was found in her bullet-riddled car in Baton Rouge after partying with friends at a bar on Government Street less than five minutes from where she was killed."

I think it was random as well but what would be the motive? So awful.

It’s every parent’s worst nightmare.

“We were woken up with a ring of the doorbell, 4:45 in the morning, which you know is never good,” said Paul Rice, adding that the words coming out of the police officer’s mouth were “life-altering.”

“I hope no one ever has to get that type of wakeup call ever again,” he added.
(…)

The Rice family wants to remind the community, especially young adults, to watch for their loved ones and protect each other.

“None of us are immune to what happened to Allie last week. This could happen to any of us. The violence, the lack of care for life, the lack of concern for life right now. It just baffles me. You know there’s so much crime going in Baton Rouge right now. I mean, this has really opened a lot of people’s eyes,” said Paul Rice.

“Instead of Rice party of 9, we have to be Rice party of 8 because of someone evil,” said Kay Rice.

The Shed is offering a $10,000 reward for a lead that helps result in a conviction in this case.

Donate a significant sum to your local police or sheriff's department and you can expect to be kept in the loop on what that money gets used for in hopes of further donations. If you're not independently wealthy you can organize fund raising for them. If you don't trust any of them, find someone you want to support in a run for sheriff. In intensely urban areas you might have more success spending your money on "hiring" your local officers to do "private security".

I’m not sure about this area of Baton Rouge as I’m not local but I endured living near a place where trains switched/picked up cars and heard a crashing sound all the time. Is there something like that nearby?

There is a large switching yard on the map. Check around 1434 Bay St. or just west of Memorial Stadium. That's about 2 miles north of Government St.
