LA - LSU student, Allison Rice, shot to death in car while waiting at RR Crossing, Baton Rouge

  • #81

"Prosecutors believe a Louisiana State University student gunned down in her was murdered at random - as rumors swirl locally the killing may have been part of a gang initiation.

Baton Rouge District Attorney Hillar Moore said in a recent interview with WBRZ that the motive for Allison Rice's shooting, which occurred on September 16 while the LSU student was sitting in her car at a railroad crossing, is still a mystery.

He admitted: 'This appears to be a totally isolated, random type act.'

Moore was asked Tuesday about claims within the local community that the 21-year-old's death was 'part of a gang initiation.' But he was unable to offer clarity to those allegations.

Officials with the Baton Rouge Police Department also echoed Moore's statement, telling the Louisiana news outlet that they have found no evidence that the LSU student, just months out from graduation, was targeted by her attacker."

Thanks. When I seen that she was into marketing I thought maybe her profiles would be more public.

LSU student's killing appears to be random; police announce Thursday news conference

An excerpt from the article
“District Attorney Hillar Moore told WBRZ on Tuesday that federal agencies like the FBI, ATF and DEA were helping with the investigation locally. Moore added that detectives have investigated every tip they've received, refuting claims on social media that police had not taken some witness statements.

He echoed those sentiments by Baton Rouge Police saying all signs point to this murder being an "isolated and random act."

"They are working their tails off trying to get info they can. There are also rumors as phones are ringing off the hook... People saying what they think happened. I caution people not to go there," Moore said.”

As a sleuther may be prone to do, I phoned the Jack in the Box in Baton Rouge.
The Foster Drive Jack in the Box's location's dining room closes at 8pm. Then, service becomes strictly drive thru only until 7am. Hence, no one was in the lobby or dining room area at the time when Allison drove through for her French fries just prior to being shot at 2:22am.

'So much ahead of her' - LSU student Allison Rice mourned

The third video found at the link above is interesting about the Mayor reaching out to crime victims and being seen in court supporting a 13yo teenage carjacker.
She’s a mess.

My former sheriff told me after dealing with a case on the national level that “crackpots” will sometimes overwhelm a tip line.

I found a public memorial website that allows friends to post their messages of sympathy to family members and/or share memories and pictures.

It appears that Allie had many friends and a lot of love around her. I really hope LE finds the person who did this.

Who does these "interviews"?

"totally islolated random type act" (except for the other 80 homicides already committed this year in your jurisdiction)

"no evidence that the victim was targeted by her attacker" (except for all the bullets sprayed upon her)

Absolutely heartbreaking.

These are quotes from our DA here who is very respected. There aren’t usually shootings here where people are killed while driving but in New Orleans (an hour away) it’s a common occurrence recently. It isn’t unheard of to have random, not targeted shootings in Baton Rouge. Crime has risen recently and there are shootings here everyday.

Good work DeDee. Maybe LE thinks its random because there was no other car there following her. I would think if she was followed there could be a possibility of the killing being targated.

Does this area have the license plate cameras by chance?

Just noting that was the New Orleans mayor supporting the carjacker.

Caught a link to the cross from People

Cross Placed at Memorial of Slain LSU Student Allison Rice Is Stolen, Still No Arrest in Shooting

It has Allison's photo inside the center of the cross. Would the killer return for a "trophy"? I don't understand why this cross was stolen. Was someone angry because she'd rebuffed them?

I think the shooter was close enough for AR to see who was shooting her. Now, her memorial cross with her photo in the center has disappeared.

Evidently, the cross placed a bit lower, without a photo of Allison, was left behind. So bizzare!

Just a very mild observation that probably means absolutly nothing, but I wonder where that particular picture of Allison is from; it's not coming up in a google image search.

That picture was used in her obituary. It looks like the bottom was cropped in the People article.

I don't see that as the same picture at all. In the one in the middle of the cross, she is wearing a white blouse that goes up around her neck, not a low-cut yellow blouse/dress. In the obituary pic, her hair is wavy; in the cross pic, her hair is super straight.

I think it was random as well but what would be the motive? So awful.
Maybe there was some kind of incident when she was getting her fries and someone angry followed her?
Maybe just an angry carjacker waiting at the train tracks for a victim? She tried to flee and he (assumed) killed her.

Gangs like to hang out near the RR tracks. Hitch rides, graffiti, muggings. Round up all the gangs near that intersection and maybe someone will sell out. Could have been waiting to shoot someone for a thrill kill. The early am hours are not safe anymore. We are living in a decaying civilization.

It is a pretty nice cross. I think some incredibly callous person just thought it would look good on their wall at home. Some people are just that pathetic. Look at how many flowers and decorations are stolen at cemeteries.

I think the DA and law enforcement are just saying that whoever did this didn't set out to attack Ally Rice, they just set out to attack someone and she was the one they found. Saying it is isolated however I think is wrong and premature. Since the killer hasn't been identifies, it is impossible to say it is isolated. If it is, then that to me is even a worse statement about the situation in Baton Rouge.
