I wonder how much of the private property in the Lafayette area is being searched. I went on some of the volunteer searches with and we were only allowed access to public property.

One thing I've found out while looking into another case - if a person is a contractor and sent out of town to work at a plant, sometimes the company will pay for a motel room for them in the city they are working.

Are there plants or anything like that in Lafayette? If the perp was working in Lafayette and staying there during the week, they would probably know the area fairly well. Maybe they live toward Baton Rouge and dumped the bike as they were going back home?

Are there any cheaper motels in the area where she was last seen?

How are we back on the truck again? :floorlaugh:

Really, a possible answer to why the driver hasn't come forward is that, as people have said, they're out of town, or not a local, etc. I drive a pretty common vehicle as well, and I can tell you that if it was plastered all over the news of where I went last weekend asking for information about me, they wouldn't be getting it, because I have no idea and I wasn't visiting with anyone who would be like, "Hey...you drive a ____, were you on X street around Y time?" Perhaps I should go check the news for that place! :innocent:

That's my usual wishful thinking though. In this case, I honestly don't think that's the answer.

Eternal optimism at it's finest here. You're right, we are jumping to conclusions if we're assuming that the z71 is the suspect. Police know more than us on this case, trust me, and they haven't ruled the truck out. The truck was seen on camera shortly after Mickey was seen on that same camera. They should have valuable information in the case i.e. they may have seen the route she took or they may be suspect. We don't know, but LE hasn't ruled it out, whereas they have ruled out the other two vehicle seen.

Hopefully more new is released, maybe more evidence, footage, or forensic evidence from the bike. However, until then, all there really is....is THE TRUCK.

This is very common. My husband is at a hotel in another state right now for his oilfield job. There are several hotels/motels within a 10 miles radios to where she was last seen.

Hello All :seeya:

I think they are parked maybe to preserve the location until they no longer need it. Does that make a s sense?

:lurk:
Hmm. I just refreshed it again and the camera image still has that same time stamp on the bottom, and the photo is unchanged from around 4pm.

And, in the world at large, Facebook is said currently to be down.

Don't know if this was posted, nor do I know if this was this exact location of the bike or just a general picture of the area.

There are also more pictures from Whiskey Bay to look at on The Advertiser's website.

That's a West-facing view from the east bank of Whiskey Bay. LA 975 is to the rear of the photographer. BTW did some calculations earlier, and based on the scale provided by Google Maps, I estimate roughly 4000' between the eastern edge of Whiskey Bay and the water's edge near the boat launch.

Is it possible for me to embed an image of a white truck, and WSers to tell if that truck is a match with the VOI?

Right. Some members on my search team were a little daring, going into yards and peeking in garage windows or through fences--during the day when most people were at work. MOST the awesome residents of Acadiana wouldn't put up a fuss about "trespassing" b/c they all want MS found, but, they could have gotten in hot water digging around where they weren't allowed to. I focused mainly on the street, looking for any small items that could have fallen off her bike or out of her backpack, in bushes near the road, on sidewalks, and around empty lots. But, it's not like the public has been allowed to go snooping IN people's properties, and LE will only do so with a warrant.

Ok, I tried to catch up, I really did, but going through everything was giving me a headache...A few things that I'd like to ask...

1--I left a few minutes early to pick up my daughter from dance class and I saw KATC and KLFY out near the Blackham Coliseum around 6:05-6:10. Was there anything new reported? I missed all of the news broadcasts tonight.

2--There were a lot of cars in the Lourdes parking garage. I don't usually travel this area in the 6 pm region, is that typical?

I'm planning on taking the day off tomorrow to search, and hopefully we'll find something! I also walked Brashear and Azalea on foot this evening to look for anything out of place and didn't find anything, so either LE has already thoroughly been there (most likely case) or there is nothing to be found.

We actually did get assigned a private area. It was wierd. The team leader had to ask permission and get a gate unlocked prior to searching. It was a dud though, a freshly mowed hay pasture.

I will be searching tomorrow too... Hardly is there ever cars in this garage. Usually just a MobileHealth RV.

Supposed to have been news at 6 but I didn't see it. Media websites reporting that search efforts are back in full effect so that's probably all that was said. I wouldn't *think* it's typical for cars to be parked in there, hmm. Idk.

I still remember my dad being asked to come in to the local PD for a voluntary DNA swab by the task force for DTL. It was very close to the end before DTL was finally caught but LE pulled vehicle registration for hundreds of males who were in the age range (and I'm sure other criteria- my dad happens to work in Baton Rouge and travels over DTL dumping spot daily). My dad did give a sample to help the police. Anyway... I'm wondering if something similar could be done for the registered z71 owners in Lafayette?

** ETA: I realize it's not very realistic to do so. Such a large task. So back to hoping someone does the right thing and comes forward.

I also know men who were asked to "voluntarily" submit their DNA back then. There were a few cases where the men declined, and LE didn't react very positively to that. Some men who refused had their names linked to the public, had their employers contacted with insinuations that the guys had something to hide.....and these men were ALL innocent. I am not a fan of DNA dragnets, and personally think it violates ou civil rights.

I sincerely hope it does not become a tactic that LE uses again.

Heres an interesting tidbit that comes in handy. In louisiana it is not trespassing if you are looking for a lost pet. Just FYI, carry a leash around and you can get into just about wherever you want ;)

Billiam, I think I know you. Were you a team leader at the Ryan St. headquarters??

Wow, where did everybody disappear to?

this thread wasn't posted in #15 so it was harder to find (for me anyway, but I'm also new).
