Sounds like maybe gun fire as well.
---------------------------------------------------
Parsons said the trio was leaving Voodoo Chicken & Daquiris on Bourbon near Bienville Street when “out of nowhere” he heard “commotion” and “banging.”

Melissa Dedeaux's niece told her gunfire rang out, and they began running. Cheyenne Dedeaux darted into the street and into the path of the barreling truck.

RIP Nikyra. Gone too soon.

Nikyra Cheyenne Dedeaux's story in the link below:

Yes, a lot of gun fire can be heard. : (

Wow. I’d love to know where exactly this coolers were placed. Concerning that they weren’t discovered sooner too.
This. And I wonder if he tried to detonate the devices from a distance with the remote? When they didn’t go off as planned, did he make the decision to drive into the crowd?

If the bombs were set up in coolers that’s going to make tailgating before the game more difficult to control. May be why they postponed game. Resecure the tailgating area, no coolers brought in near the stadium. I’ve never been to a game you could bring your coolers inside but I have seen lots of them in parking lots. Especially concerning if he wasn’t working alone.

IMOO
Best thing imho is to play the game behind closed doors and refund the fans, I appreciate a lot of them have spent money on flights, hotels etc but I would rather lose money than be killed

Did the suspect ever marry?

''The suspect in the truck attack that killed at least 10 people in New Orleans has been identified as Shamsud-Din Jabbar.

The 42-year-old - who was shot dead - was named by the FBI, which said he was an American-born Army veteran from Texas.''

“We do not believe that Jabbar was solely responsible,” Aethea Duncan, FBI assistant special agent in charge, said at a news conference Wednesday afternoon. “We are aggressively running down every lead, including those of his known associates

“As of now, two IEDs have been found and rendered safe,” Duncan said. “The FBI special agent bomb technicians, as well as our local law enforcement partners, have been working to determine if any of these devices are viable, and they will work to render those devices safe.”

Duncan said the FBI is requesting help from the public and asked for anyone who had contact with Jabbar to contact the FBI. Anyone else with information, photos or videos was encouraged to send via a tip line created specifically for the New Orleans incident

It feels like we as a nation are being tested on what is Terrorism and what is not.
Is X Terrorism?
No, what about Y?
It is just my opinion…
Yes.
The fact that the perp chose to fly a certain flag is telling !
Like making a firm statement.
And no, no one is treating his culture or relatives badly, Shamsud chose to do what he did.
I am about 100 % certain he didn't know even one of those people he killed.
Imo.

“We had a plan, but the terrorist defeated it,” New Orleans Police Chief says when questioned about terrorist being able to drive onto Bourbon Street.

So many ill-advised statements are being made by officials regarding this incident.
I disagree with the statement from the NOPC - I think they did stop the terrorist plan and he was killed in the process. There could have been so much more carnage had the coolers detonated. Sad day!!

I've never been to NOLA, but started watching some streaming camera footage from Bourbon Street on EarthCam, as some friends of mine had visited and enjoyed it.

I'm in the Pacific time zone, so I could watch late-night or early morning footage easily.

I was very impressed by the daily cleanup on Bourbon Street. Several garbage trucks would come by in the early mornings, around 4-5 am picking up the trash put out by restaurants, bars, and stores and empty the sidewalk trash bins. They also picked up stray boxes or stuff on the sidewalks. Then the street cleaners would come out and thoroughly wash the street so that very little, if any, debris or garbage was there.

On NYE, there would have been a lot of trash bags and stuff and still a lot of people at ~3:30 am, before the cleanup people came by about 4 -5 am. Certainly, if there were IED left streetside planted by others, they knew to commit their acts before that time.

I think the 'plan' was the parked police cruiser.

And no, it didn't stop him from getting past it.

MOO

The amount of planning that went into it??? I curious about the meaning of that statement too.
I think it likely means that they now know more than we do.

Senator Kennedy, LA, who spoke at the press conference made it clear that as soon as it is possible to speak further about what they now know that he will make sure that the U.S. government is transparent about it with the American people.

yeah and I'm guessing this is the real reason concrete permanent barriers weren't in place. the city needed trucks going in and out of the area the whole time to keep it looking clean because it was a big event. they don't typically keep it quite that clean.
cities usually go the extra mile to shine the place up when they're hosting a huge event. jmo.

Would like to know more about his Army days. If he's called a veteran, seems it was an honorable discharge. What do neighbors have to say? Last known address I researched was Fresno, Texas. Assuming Fresno is correct, demographics would have hidden him well.

The Oklahomla City bombers. The Lewiston Maine shooter. Both Fort Hood shooters.

In additional is Israel Keyes, many serial killers were in the military. Berkowitz, Ridgeway, Dennis Rader, Rany Kraft, so many others.
I think there is a good explanation for some serial killers having been in the military at some point.

There are a lot of young people that don't have jobs, aren't going into college, and aren't sure what to do next. Many of them choose to enlist in the armed forces. SOME of them were kind of outliers, misfits, lost souls, who enlisted because it was one of their only options.

It is not surprising that some of these misfits, lost souls, also end up being violent perpetrators. I don't think the military creates the serial killer element---I think the circumstances that led them to enlist were also the circumstances that led them to acting out criminally----they were adrift, disconnected, loners before they enlisted, in many cases. IMO

Law enforcement has a lot to answer for- they really dropped the ball-
hard to believe they were so unprepared-- New Orleans would be considered a target like New York, especially in light what occurred in Germany just a few days ago. The sugar bowl should be cancelled or rescheduled for another venue.
