FBI Houston and Harris County Sheriff’s Office reported that they were conducting “law enforcement activity” in north Houston related to the attack in New Orleans.

The agencies secured a perimeter near the intersection of Hugh Road and Crescent Peak Drive, and they are asking people to avoid the area.
FBI Houston personnel and specialized teams will be on-site for several hours, according to a statement

I don't know if this is where the suspect lives, but looking at Google Maps, there is a mosque about 0.3 miles away from the named intersection.

This is what confuses the hell out of me. He’s the prototypical lone wolf terrorist in every way. Sudden conversion to Islam, financial problems, began behaving erratically.

I know they say they have accomplices on camera planting bombs, but I’m still slightly skeptical here.
Possibly whoever was speaking with him about converting to Islam? Maybe he met someone that pulled him in to a not so good version of Islam? I don't know how it works, but I would imagine a known terrorist group might look for vulnerable people they can sway and gain control of for things like this? He seemed to have many things going wrong in his life recently.. divorce and possible money troubles.. he might have been searching for something.. a purpose and if he met someone or people that had a purpose for him? Maybe?

Minor point, but as for the "concealed" ISIS flag on the back of the truck... I've been thinking about it for a few hours and have a theory.

IMO, the suspect probably did that himself. He wanted his motivation to be known, so he installed the flag. But he did not want his motivation to be realized too soon, lest he forfeit the element of surprise. If he'd been driving around with that flag open and flapping in the breeze, it would've drawn scrutiny and he may have been stopped before even launching the attack.

In all areas of our country, it is time to renew security measures. The fact that a police car was the only thing standing between this man and the carnage he committed just can't be accepted anymore. This guy had access to too many people with very little security to stop him on the night when there would be so many vulnerable people. If cities areas are not willing to keep up the security need then they should not encourage people to come to their area for events. Yes, terrorism happens but there is too much evidence that the measures (although we have no idea how many LE were there actively patrolling) taken were not high enough security to stop any attack. Thank goodness this guy crashed into another vehicle.

There's more info in searches. He is divorced, has children (no idea how many), realtor, corporate job.

No corporate job for awhile, if this is accurate:

"In the report, filed in August 2022 to complete his divorce in Fort Bend County, filed in 2021, Jabbar showed he made $120,000 annually from his job with Deloitte Consulting. Deloitte officials did not respond immediately to requests for comment. An online profile for Jabbar said his employment ended with the company in 2022."

Law enforcement officers have closed off a road leading to a Houston residence that records indicate was a recent address of the suspect in the New Orleans attack.

The white mobile home was behind a gate and in a small neighborhood where goats and ducks were roaming the grass

How do these guys actually get elected? Josh Hawley demanded Mayorkas (Homeland Security) explain New Orleans attack with no idea the terrorist was home-grown, Texas, US Army.
President Biden mentioned that Homeland Security is involved in the investigation. Why wouldn't congress want to hear from all of them? Do we know that the terrorist is home-grown? He was a US citizen but where was he radicalized if he was. These are questions that we need answers to.

@RossDellenger

Both Notre Dame, Georgia and CFP officials have made requests to local New Orleans authorities to have the Sugar Bowl kickoff time Thursday be moved earlier in the day. There continues to be active discussion on the time, which is likely determined by local authorities + ESPN.

Officials are discussing a moved-up kickoff time of 3 p.m. CT Thursday for the postponed Sugar Bowl, sources tell
@YahooSports. That’s the expectation, but conversations are on-going. An announcement could come soon.

Why would an earlier time make any difference? Won’t it be just as busy?

Senator Hawley was elected by his constituents in Missouri. The Senator's request to the chair of the Senate Homeland Security Committee is completely appropriate and justified, as the Department of Homeland Security's mission includes both threats to the homeland from abroad as well as threats to the homeland that are homegrown.

Preventing Terrorism Overview

Protecting the American people from terrorist threats is the reason the Department of Homeland Security was created, and remains our highest priority. Our vision is a secure and resilient nation that effectively prevents terrorism in ways that preserve our freedom and prosperity.

Understanding Evolving and Emerging Threats

Terrorist tactics continue to evolve, and we must keep pace. Terrorists seek complex means of attack, including chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear and explosive weapons, and cyber attacks. Threats may come from abroad or be homegrown.

We must be vigilant against new types of terrorist recruitment as well, by engaging communities at risk being targeted by terrorist recruiters.

Why would an earlier time make any difference? Won’t it be just as busy?
If a potential attacker has meticulously planned their timeline, moving the start time to sooner means they would have to rush, change their plans at the last minute, or abandon their attack.

MOO

It might just be logistics, to get their players on a plane in time after the game or to allow for fans to travel out of the city at a reasonable time after the game ends rather than needing to remain in the city for an additional night beyond what they had originally planned for, when the game was supposed to happen today. Security at the event might also be easier to conduct in more daylight hours vs. darker later at night.

From the second link, the suspect being charged is 28 years old, so it's possibly a member of the terrorist cell Shamsud is involved with , since he's 42 ?

The revelation could help explain why officials at a Wednesday news conference said that they were aggressively hunting for additional suspects and did not believe the driver of the pickup truck, 42-year-old Shamsud-Din Jabbar, acted alone.

An Islamic State flag, weapons and a “potential” improvised explosive found in the truck that plowed through crowds in New Orleans on New Year’s Day, killing at least 10 people, have raised the specter that the international terrorist group played a role in the attack.

Law enforcement officials said on Wednesday that they were trying to determine the suspect’s potential associations and affiliations with terrorist organizations. Counterterrorism specialists pointed to several telltale signs.

“By carrying an ISIS flag with him during the attack, the suspect wanted to show that he was a true believer, aligned with the ISIS cause, and perhaps hoping to trigger others into following suit,” said Colin P. Clarke, a counterterrorism analyst at the Soufan Group, a security consulting firm based in New York
