And, there’s a black American flag as well that represents “no quarter given,” but it’s not as likely someone would hide those flags under a jacket. MOO

I’m hoping we soon learn the identity of the person the truck is registered to.

It’s been confirmed that the truck was shared/rented through Toro. Registered owner is not involved.

It's not like this kind of attack is reserved for one kind of person or demographic, either. The one in Germany the other week was probably because of extremism based on Islam, but the one in Charlottesville was driven by right wing white supremacy.

Until we know more about the suspect, there's no knowing why.

MOO

New Orleans police said the majority of the victims appear to be locals, but acknowledged that many visitors were in town for New Year’s and the Sugar Bowl between Georgia and Notre Dame.

Law enforcement officials and bomb squad detectives were called to 1329 Mandeville Street after firefighters doused flames that broke out at the rental, according to sources close to the investigation. Investigators believe the Airbnb was rented by the suspect in the Bourbon Street attack, sources said.
My first thought is if the truck was seen near Baytown yesterday driving east towards New Orleans around noon, how would there be a fire in an Airbnb in New Orleans rented by the guy before that in the morning?

This news about the fire breaking out at the suspects' Airbnb rental is really interesting.

I see no mention whether the fire broke out before or after the rampage.

Perhaps LE was attempting to look for evidence at the AirBnb and inadvertently set off an IED?

Photos taken after the collision show what appears to be a metallic gray jacket wrapped around a flagpole, but a video shot earlier in the morning showed what appears to be a black flag dangling from the same 'pole'.

IMO seems as though when the police saw the truck on camera driving east, that the flag was already up. Unsure though. MOO

It is covered up? To me, it just looks like a black flag wrapped around the pole or tied around it.

Louisiana Lt. Governor Billy Nungesser said that he heard from a reporter that there had been an ISIS flag hanging from a pole on the back of the EV pickup truck that was used by a now-deceased driver to plow into a New Year's Eve crowd killing 10 and sending dozens to local hospitals. Two police officers were injured in a gunfight after the driver of the vehicle crashed, then got out and began firing.

Speaking to local news, Nungesser said "I had a national press person as he was getting on a plane heading to New Orleans tell me, ask me if I could confirm if there was an ISIS flag on the back of the truck. And that's what he heard, I do not know that for a fact, but that was told by a reporter that was boarding a plane from New York to come to New Orleans to cover this story just about 45 minutes ago. But I don't want to start a rumor, that was just what he heard, and he asked me to confirm that, which I could not do."

Apparently the mayor labeled the event a terrorist attack, but the FBI denied that.

According to LE, the perp also wasn't disguised, so he could be recognized.

The legal definition of terrorism and the lay understanding are different. The FBI defines domestic terrorism as follows:

“Violent, criminal acts committed by individuals and/or groups to further ideological goals stemming from domestic influences, such as those of a political, religious, social, racial, or environmental nature.” https://www.fbi.gov/investigate/terrorism

This definition is very different from the lay understanding, which tends to be along the lines of “a violent act intended to cause fear.”

There is some confusion about that. It looks like it’s wrapped to me as well. I was quoting the news article linked that said it was potentially covered.

BBM… a little too late for that.

The FBI is investigating whether the Bourbon Street terror attack is connected to the Sugar Bowl, a college football showdown that takes place in New Orleans annually on January 1.

Investigators are looking into the attack as a "special event of target interest," law enforcement sources told The Post.

The game is one of the highest-profile sporting events that comes through the city
