It’s easier to hide things in the dark. I would much prefer having to secure an event during the day vs at night if given a choice.

The irony of this statement with your username lol but i agree

With the death toll climbing to 15 people and having read that the suspect was wearing body armor I'm wondering if some of the casualties were the result of friendly fire. I hate to think that but with a crowd of that size it could be possible. :(
MOO but I think driving such a heavy car at speed into a crowded place is more than capable of killing this many - the sad reality is more casualties will develop due to the onset of multi organ failure and head injuries that take time to establish due to swelling, windows of prognostication and withdrawal of life support. The casualties so far are really those just fatally injured outright.

I honestly cannot wrap my head around people wishing to behave this way!

These are the type of permanent barricades that are placed on Bourbon and Royal street. They are sporadically placed. They are closer in to the French Quarter for no vehicle access.

The further away from the heart of the FQ there aren’t any permanent barriers. Particularly at Canal and Bourbon.

Canal street isn’t part of the FQ, it is the perimeter street of the FQ. Canal street is what is known as the central business district.

CNN Live: John Miller

Made a series of voice recordings on video as he drove from Texas to Louisiana. Talked about turmoil in family, divorce, discusses getting his family together for celebration so he could kill all of them. Over time, based on dreams of joining ISIS, changed plan to carry out attack in New Orleans.

Last will and testament where he divides up what little money he has left.
Here we go…scary such people exist!

So he's essentially a family annihilator that chose a different path. Possibly because his family wouldn't gather together with him because of his behaviour.

So, thwarted in that, he kept that core of being an injustice collector and chose to attack celebrating strangers instead, targeting groups of people drinking and partying because he decided they were disposable, using his recently adopted fanaticism to feel justified in selecting them.

Very much my opinion only.

So the killer had financial issues that upset him. And sounds like he became radicalized.
The FBI has video footage of someone placing the bombs that must have been at times when they had the killer driver on video or at another place in order to suspect accomplices. It's possible that the video images of the bomb planter(s) did not match the physical make up of the killer driver.

Sad to say but the family were smart to trust their instincts and not meet with him. Wish they had alerted LE about possible worries regarding his erratic behavior.

To be fair, we don't know that they didn't...

Even if they did, someone "acting crazy" and cutting their hair (as he was described in another article) isn't something LE would do anything about.

I have no words. How do we end people feeling like this?!

SWAT is behind a property near New Orleans attack suspect, Shamsud Din Jabbar’s home. We saw adults and children being removed from the neighboring property. FBI has special teams surrounding the perimeter.

NOW: our @KPRC2 drone is showing a man outside the New Orleans attack suspects Houston home with his hands up. SWAT giving commands.

In the 2nd video of the man with his hand up, what is he holding in his hand? He appears to drop it behind him or into a hoodie.

<modsnip: Gun control discussion is off limits>

Given this guy had financial troubles, recent marital break down and restraining orders, had converted to Islam (representing some big life events)…were these not somehow flags that should have been on the system somewhere somehow when he owns or purchases an assault rifle?

At first I wondered of it was car keys but then decided or was not that. Imo it was oddly shaped. Maybe paper?
If swat is outside and asks you to exit the home(i assume this is what happened) what do you grab to take with you?

Thank you so much! Obviously it is not as left field as it seems to me here in the UK. You are right actually about the type of gun not being described beyond assault rifle (to which same question still applies) but shall amend post for accuracy!
The rifle wasn't even purchased it was stolen. So...
