Landfill Searches

Am I the only person who was deeply disturbed at the statement made by LE about the search timeline? The spokesman said they knew right away where in the landfill the trash from the dumpster would go SO THEY DID NOTHING knowing the trash wasn't going anywhere....They knew it was secure.....

But if they had checked the landfill immediately there wouldn't be the need for digging now woud there? His story made no sense to me and sounded like an excuse for not having done the obvious immediately. I hate to agree with NG, but she did say to search there right away and they didn't. To hear how much trash has to be removed to get to the spot where they believe the dumpster in question would have been dumped sounds like one giant ball dropped by LE....JMO....I could be wrong....

I honestly think in the beginning the evidence was so strong that a handoff took place and that EJ did give Gabriel to someone that LE did not believe the text/call and didn't think he was in the landfill. After weeks and then months went by though and new leads dwindled and the hot leads had turned cold and with all of the pressure from the media and everyone else they had to search the landfill and consider it as a very real possibility.

I do agree though if they would of done it earlier it would of been alot easier, less expensive and all the LE manpower that is at the landfill right now could be focusing on finding Gabriel alive.

Personally, I think SA has known from the beginning that he very well could have been in the landfill. They just didn't want to pay for it. Notice, now that donations are covering the cost, it's considered an necessary evil. If the donations hadn't come in, I think the landfill would still be cordoned off, with nothing happening.

What a horrible horrible task.....

I do think that this is what Elizabeth did tho...she said she did it and I think she did

From Nancy Grace....I bolded the key words that Elizabeth sent to Logan>>
if the garbage don`t come first."

GRACE: With us tonight, a very special guest, and we are taking your calls live. With us, the chief of the San Antonio Police Department, Chief Bill McManus. Chief, we now know more of the details of what 23-year-old Elizabeth Johnson said to the biological father, the bio father.

Chief, the details that she gave the father are much, much more chilling than, I smothered the baby, I hid him in the diaper bag and I threw him in the trash. It says, "You can spend the rest of your pathetic life wondering about" baby Gabriel. "I`m already boarding a plane out of the country. When I`m safe, I`ll e-mail you the exact location of dead Gabriel`s little blue body, if the garbage don`t come first."

You know, Chief, you`re probably a lot more diplomatic than me, but she can rot in hell for this e-mail alone, to say dead Gabriel`s "little blue body"! Is that the correct wording, Chief, of the text message she sent the baby`s father?

MCMANUS: Well, I`ll tell you, Nancy, I don`t want to get into the details of the investigation, whether you have them correct or not. But I will tell you that the communication that transpired back and forth -- or back to the father, was pretty tragic.

GRACE: Oh! And of course, Chief, as we all know in law enforcement, it only gets in the way. It impedes the investigation. Now, chief, a lot of people want to know what took you so long to start the dig because you had this evidence back in December. I know you`ve got an explanation, including how long it took to get the dig together. Please explain to the viewers.

MCMANUS: We continue to follow up on leads on the missing person investigation. The -- securing the landfill -- by securing the landfill, nothing was going in there, nothing was going out of there. So you know, time was really not that critical in terms of having to search the landfill. Nothing was going to be lost.

This has probably already known by all, but do they have cell phone pings from the phone that EJ called Logan on during that day? She doesn't speak uneducated like Misty Croslin, and to say if the garbage doesn't "come" first sounds like she was still either in the motel or right there in the area where ever she was if she did dump the baby in the garbage. I can't help but wonder if LE has pinpointed where she was at that time, and that's why they're focusing on the motel's garbage pickup.

Any news on the landfill searches?
I haven't heard anything. Last week was really nice weather here in the Dallas area, but I don't know about San Antonio.

I guess no news is good news.

Yes, it's making me feel very anxious that we aren't hearing anything. For weeks, we were getting conflicting reports about whether searches would even be done. Then once it was publicly announced that the searches WOULD be done, we were getting regular updates, if for nothing else than to say the weather was bad and they had to hold off. And now, nothing for days and days and days.

Of course, I'll take this over an announcement that Gabriel was found there.

This thread is temporary to discuss the press conference coming up by SAPD in 10 minutes.

As soon as we see what it's about, I'll move the thread or posts to the right threads.

Thanks,
