Law School Hires Jose Baez To Teach Students

I can't believe he's teaching Pre-trial practice! What a joke! His pre-trial work is constantly getting kicked by the court-he improper files notices, improperly notices hearings, improperly files motions. Those things are the crux of pre-trial practice--this is absurd!

All he has to do is play a copy of his latest mishaps with the judge, ask the students to correct all the errors of his days and out they go into the night. Shouldn't be that hard and it would be his forte of no prep work needed. Excellent fit for JB; with first hand commentary from the master-of-mistakes.

If Brad was correct in his estimation of when KC will go to trial, JB will easily have 2 semesters worth of his folly for the the next generation of lawyers to learn from.

I wonder if their duties include monitoring Internet coverage of the case?

when you cannot afford a decent defense team-you find yourself a job teaching. then force your students to do all of your research. what is the name of the course, again?
i'm sure his students are geeked. they get to be part of a high profile case. they can put it on their resumes some day. erghhhh....
Baez, "yes, Bob, I will let you take my course, by the way I heard your girlfriend happens to be a psych major, I'll buy her books next semester if she can help me out w/ one of my clients"

I told ya'll Craigslist was great....I know more people who barter their services these days.........you know, with the bad economy and all. Baez may teach them for there services..........I've seen this one......on Law & Order.......dudes lost.

1. No touchy-feely with your client especially when Jail Guards request it repeatedly...

2. No late night (till Midnight) jail house visits with your Client...

3. No moonlighting as your Client's (Media) Manager to help fund the Defense Team...

4. No race-card pulling when you stink at your job...

5. No credit for this course...cuz your teacher is a joke!

I was so embarassed by this! I'm a hispanic and a female! I have never or would I ever use that to get sympathy. There are plenty of well qualified hard working hispanics and cuban americans that are honest and respected. Unfortunately, JB is not a good example for any of us. I'm totally embarassed to be associated with his cultural background.

Ditto that for me.

No,No! Don't be embarrassed.Jose' represents no one but himself.

The top law schools will also often have outside counsel teach Trial Practice or Criminal Procedure. For many a year, Harvard had Jerome Facher (re: the movie "A Civil Action", starring Robert Duval and John Travolta) come in and teach.
Note that it's FAMU who's sought out Jose Baez. If he were good outside counsel, he'd be at one of the top-tier schools.

I feel so sorry for the students there--has no one told them that their odds of landing jobs after attending law school at FAMU are near-nil? Law is one of the professions for which where one goes to school remains terribly important. My husband went to law school at a well-established and accredited, but NOT top-tier school. 20+ years out, and he's teaching at an Ivy League school--he's very well-respected and nationally-known in his field. Know what? His resume still probably wouldn't get past hiring partners in many firms because they'd toss it based on where he went to law school.

And believe me, he went MANY tiers higher than FAMU!!

He's teaching pre-trial practice workshop. (Definitely got this job for free help on Casey's trial!)

From the schedule:
Pretrial Practice Workshop 6361 5157 301 J. Baez 3 W 6:00 pm - 8:50 pm 20 249

Can you imagine how boring this almost 3 hour class must be..."Class...ummm...tonight....ummmm...we...ummm...will.....ummm, ummm...discuss umm"

Plus you need to be in the top 1/3 of your class! My brother went to USC (which is a good school) and he was near the top, had a job before he left with a prestigious firm. He said generally the top 1/3 get jobs before they finish, the middle 1/3 will get hired after they get out, and the bottom 1/3 will fight for the scraps!!!

JB's kids have NO chance. It's shameful that they even asked him. IMO of course. :)

I just hope the judge stops him before he continues to embarass himself.
Although, I disagreed with them, the OJ team and Mark Geragos were all obviously talented, smart attorneys...JB is like watching a caricature of an attorney. I'm sure attorney's are also embarassed by him. I think the judge needs to do something or this trial is going to be a joke and Miss KC is going to walk do to incompentent counsel...I already have the feeling that they are emotionally if not physically involved (yes, jmo)...it will happen just like the Amy fisher and her attorney. GeeZ...I'm putting myself in TO for 30 min...I'm getting myself worked up!

Attorneys have to attend Continuing Legal Education classes every year. It is a requirement of the various State Bar Assoications. It is expensive, time consuming and extremely boring. It can take 2-3 days to complete.

Attorneys who volunteer to grade Bar exams, or teach law school classes for free are exempt from attending these classes. Practicing attorneys are usually selected to teach procedure. It only makes sense as the Professors normally haven't practiced in years, if ever, never tried a case and maybe spent their time doing contract law. Actively practicing lawyers give practical advice and information and are not stuck on the history and meaning of the process. Since procedure is usually one of the last classes taken before graduation, it is essential that someone teaches the nuts and bolts to those about to be set loose on the public and have never seen much less drafted a pleading.

Just a little "in house" information.

What is JB suppose to teach these students anyway, how to @<*%#! a case, or maybe how to not #^)&$%$, or not #*^$!(?@* your clients.

Okay, I feel better now!

Funny...the story behind Jose's "fame" has nothing to do with his competency as a Lawyer. Casey supposedly got his name from an inmate, which already says he may not be so good at getting people off! Then, he boast about having such a high profile case yet the only reason that this case is so high profile is because his client cannot tell the truth to save her life and EVERYONE wants to see justice, Casey=Guilty.
Soon he will be boasting about how even though his client is guilty, it was a huge task at hand and he's STILL the best lawyer ever for taking on the challenge.
I hope his students are studying on their own. If not to pass, at least to call out his 'mistruths' he may be spilling in his curriculum.

I only read the title of this thread so far and all I can say is WTF!!:clown::jester::shocked2:

Is this a classroom reversal course? In other words take studious notes and then do the complete opposite.
