The person that came to help save his life instead found him dead ...oh damn !
I know. That must have really affected him (kornwell)terribly. What a position to be in.

I am going to add a little something, hopefully it does not get too long winded.

Artists can be very hard to talk to, even if you are one of the people closest to the artist.

When I was touring with Jesse, we last played in Hampton Virginia and our DC date got cancelled and that left an open spot til our next gig in Dallas which was a little over a week away. Jesse decided to send the entire band home and managers as well and fly them to Dallas because it made more sense financially. He did stay out on the road with me and one other person. We went and spent two days in DC and Jesse decided he wanted to head to Dallas to get some rest before our next concert. We had a layover in Memphis and Jesse sent his "gopher" out to get him some Famous Amos chocolate chip cookies, that means if you do not see them right away, get back on the plane. To make a long story shorter, the gopher/gofer/go for did not make it on the plane. Jesse told me to tell the pilot to hold the plane, I came and said Jesse they will not hold plane, he sent me back up to tell them who we were. I came back and said Jesse they don't care who you are, this plane is not going to wait.

Well the whole ride into Dallas we did not say a word to each other, upon landing we both looked out of the corner of our eyes and started CTFU, laughing. I said I sure hope he found them chocolate chip cookies because he is going to need them right about now. Jesse was really hard to talk to at times and other times so easy.

It does surprise me that Prince having an intervention of this type would not have had closer supervision even from afar, managers know how to do this without being too invading.

A really good read...I'm trying to not let this get to me so badly.Addiction has affected my life and my sons life ...sadly, his father (my ex) who was doing so well for the last year has fallen off the wagon and is using again. My son and I have thru experience and education finally learned and accepted that there is nothing we can say or do and that confronting him, fighting with him, whatever will do no good. It will only upset us. Simply put, an addict is going to use if they want to use.
Many are hating on Princes friends and staff for leaving him alone knowing his situation.
I am here to say that addicts are the most cunning, manipulative , charming people when they want what they want.
Case in point... He got his pills and he got left alone.
My ex always convinced his family that needed rehab, but he just needed one night to himself .usually it was to binge on what he knew was soon going to be taken away from him.
He actually convinced his father to come get him from a rehab because he didn't belong there with a bunch of addicts and criminals...

Add to this the fact that this is Prince we are talking about here... The Icon, The Legend...The Star ...
I can just hear him telling them he is fine, he is sick and tired of being sick and tired, he is going into rehab and he will be fine, now go get some rest and let him have some alone time to get his affairs in order before he goes....
God love him...

One of the things I have found about someone who is in this type of dependency is that the normally most honest person in the world learns to be deceptive.
They have to to cover their tracks. My ex use to be so honest he wouldn't fib and make an excuse not to go to a neighbors barbecue when I'd try to come up with an excuse.i think that we tend to still think of them as being this way not realizing what a hold their drug of choice has on them and we let them convince us all the while our head knows they are being deceitful, but our heart doesn't let us see them as the person we have known and loved ...
Dealing with this is so tricky and frustrating , I have to think that everyone around him was simply out of their element on this one.
I'm sure they are consumed with guilt right now .

Just read the StarTribune article about the rehab person soooo close to reaching Prince, but too late.

I'm incredibly sad for the whole situation. As we've talked about here, Prince was in pain because he gave himself completely to his music and performances. Mean-spirited people will miss that point, but I know his many fans will see it

I have been trying to stay away from details about his death and instead focus on his music and words (his interviews are great), but I admit I'm curious about when the time of death will be determined. Was he in the elevator long or did he slip away moments before help arrived?

And, not to be disrespectful AT ALL, but it is rather Prince-like to have this bittersweet melancholy surrounding his death - he had that vulnerable, tender quality about him. As joyful as he was, as funny, as smart, as deep and spiritual and hopeful for the future, there was something sad there too.

I'm rambling. Reeling.

Great article from Slate - doesn't sensationalize or scandalize the issue of drugs. It's an issue we need to face honestly. Thank you, cubbeegirl, for sharing your experiences. Knowing these true stories is valuable (even as I want to bury my head in the ground).

"Sufferers of chronic pain are not compulsively craving and seeking drugs. They are looking for relief from their pain."

Sadly it appears he was dead alone in that elevator for awhile , reports are that rigor mortis had already started to set in .

This poor guy should have been hospitalized after he was hospitalized. Never should have been left alone. And I totally agree the issues of self deception in addiction can and do totally alter someone's mind, body, and compass in life.

Imo -Many people in family, inner circle, and perhaps beyond knew much more re: circumstances after he died, and I think the rehab representative who discovered him and called 911 was bound to be leaked - so they had their attorney make the statement first. --Believe this story will be corroborated by COD anyway..

The price of fame goes hand and glove with genius artistry sometimes. He may have felt very isolated in this aspect of his life. He tried very hard to protect his privacy, (the soft underbelly of the human being).

To be suffering physically must be like the Achilles arrow to someone whose artistic presence has also been so visual, so physical, so vibrant... And perhaps, to feel disconnected from that life force may have felt like a fate worse than death, too -

Now I am rambling, but nothing changes that fact that Prince - was a shining star who touched so many, on so many levels... I hope he knows how much he is loved.
