Why was the violence from the 20th even brought up in a thread about live cams recording protests on the 21st?

This thread was started on jan 20th at 8:34 am.Inauguration day, not the day of the March that was not violent. Because your first post to the thread came yesterday during the march doesn't mean it was about the march, if so then you would not have referenced anarchist and rioters which I did not see in the march.

People marched for many different reasons - women of all ages, men of all ages, families, etc. I will not get into a political discussion here as to the value of my reasons but I wanted you to know why I marched so you can understand MY reasons. I marched to show I am NOT okay with my state's attempts to take medical care (cancer screenings, prenatal care, contraceptives) away from low income women by cutting funds to Planned Parenthood. I marched to show I am NOT okay with the efforts to overturn the ability for same-sex couples to enjoy the same legal rights as opposite-sex couples. I marched to show that I am NOT okay with my state's cuts to Medicaid funding for children's therapy services decreasing the likelihood that those children become productive members of our society. I marched to show I am NOT okay with the appointment of a millionaire as Secretary of Education who is clueless about the actual education of our most valuable asset, our children. I marched because I live in a red state and know my vote is meaningless due to the electoral college so I HAVE TO do something to make my feelings known. I marched to be an example to my sons whose future is constantly on my mind. I marched so that I will continue to have the right to march even though others feel they don't need to march. I did not agree with the viewpoint of everyone that marched with me but I would defend, and celebrate, their right to do so peacefully. Two of our most precious rights are the ability to peacefully assembly and speak our minds. I am 57 years old and have never felt the need to use these rights more than I do now. I know there are those that disagree with me and that's okay.

ETA: This was in response to Tuleesa's post #55. It didn't include quote for some reason.

Thanks for the clarification. My apologies.

The beauty of the feminist movement was providing women the freedom to choose what they want or don't want to do. No one expected every single woman to march, and the bolded isn't at all what it was about. There were thousands of men marching as well :) I'm sorry you missed the message of the protests and I'm glad you're focusing on the rights of women overseas. What organizations are you actively participating in to help them? I'm interested in helping as well. This march was for us here in the states, and as humans, we're capable of caring about and working for more than one issue.

2.9 million women weren't whining, though. Sorry you feel that way about it :/

I watched the whole thing. It was about far more than one problem.

It was about AA getting shot by LE.

It was about Latinos being discriminated against

It was about organizing and letting your elected reps know what is ok and not ok

It was about gay marriage

It was empowerment.

It was about trying to lift spirits in what is going to be a very difficult phase for the world to endure.

It was about holding onto hope.

It was about racial discrimination.

It was about homophobia.

It was about gun violence.

It was about trans gendered folks.

It was about Native Indians.

It was about the love the Muslim faith embraces.

It was about the disparity between the wealthy and the average.

It was about all sort of things.

Millenials are not going to put up with this sh$t!!

I have respect for everyone who marched and protested, expressing their opinions and exercising their rights peacefully. While I still don't feel my rights as a woman have changed at all since Trump was sworn in (my personal opinion) I respect others differing opinions and their right to express them.

What I can't respect is when people insult others for differing opinions and ignore facts that don't fit their narrative (this goes for both parties). Madonna, for example, troubled me with her words and I found her comment about the White House disturbing. Thankfully I know the vast majority of marchers do not agree with her specific statement about the White House.

Nicely
stated Even thow there were so many more folks for the peaceful march the following day there was no violence. The were honoring the AMerican right to let congress know that congress had better being paying attnetion to what they vote for, and or allow to happen.

They also need to understnd that all over the globe people took to the streets to support the main march for congress.

They were talking to congress

Great post. I agree. Many of my friends marched and I am proud of them even if we disagree on certain specific issues, I think it's important people stand up for what they believe in.

And Spicer said, "We know that 420,000 people used the D.C, Metro public transit yesterday, which actually compares to 317,000 for president Obama's last inaugural."

Spicer's number for ridership on Friday was actually low -- the correct number, according to Metro itself, was 570,557. But there were actually 782,000 trips taken for Obama's second inaugural in 2013.

Have you seen Trump's tweet about the protesters? Basically asked why the 2.5m protesters didn't vote because we just had an election. People promptly reminded him that he lost the popular vote by 3m. I read it on the Daily Mail. Will grab a link.

`Watched protests yesterday but was under the impression that we just had an election! Why didn't these people vote? Celebs hurt cause badly,' he wrote.

Just remember that the democrats voted for clinton 90.9% to 4.1% trump 2016 in the district

In 2016 the democrats voted 92.5 for obama to 6.5 mccain. In the district.

I am sure that the people living in the district were able to be there more easily then those that had to travel. Lots to take into consideration. jmo idk

the point worth considering imo is the willingness to blatantly lie about it, personally i could not care less about who actually had the bigger crowd.

Drones - I'm just using your post as a jump off point since it's the first place the topic was raised. Thanks for bringing the discrepancy to my attention!

This article breaks down the numbers nicely. Obama had higher Nielsen ratings in 2009 than Trump but Trump did win out if you compare the 2013 Obama Neilsen ratings. Nixon still was the most watched inauguration.

Trump had less actual people attend it appears. He seems to blame it on weather but I recall weather being an issue for at least one of the past 2 inaugurations (I mean, they are always in DC in January). The weather certainly didn't keep the protesters away.

The article has a picture that was taken at what would have been Trump's view and from his vantage point it did look jam packed full of people, IMO, so I could see him spouting off assuming it was to capacity only to find out the reality later but by then he's committed to a storyline. Not how I wish the information pipeline went but how I picture it working under this president, all IMO

Clinton supporters marched after the election shouting "not my president". They marched again yesterday.

Trump seems to think he's only the president of those who voted for him, no one else.

http://www.msn.com/en-us/news/polit...er-says/ar-AAm78Y7?li=BBmkt5R&ocid=spartanntp

A senior aide to President Trump said Sunday that he has no plans to release his tax returns, a marked shift from Trump’s pledge during the campaign to make them public once an audit was completed.

“The White House response is that he’s not going to release his tax returns,” said Kellyanne Conway, counselor to the president, during an appearance on ABC’S “This Week with George Stephanopoulos.” “We litigated this all through the election.”

“People didn’t care,” Conway added. “They voted for him, and let me make this very clear: Most Americans are — are very focused on what their tax returns will look like while President Trump is in office, not what his look like.”

bbm, I wouldn't either if I were him. And would definitely move press corps of the white house west wing to the old executive building. No more white house access for them.

so you are fine with him lying about that? im not a big fan of people that repeatedly blatantly lie.

And Trump lost popular vote by the widest margin of any President. Scary for a man who is all about ratings and crowd size to have his finger on the nuclear button.

http://www.independent.co.uk/news/w...n-us-election-president-history-a7470116.html

That deficit is more than five times bigger than the 544,000 by which George W. Bush lost to Al Gore in 2000 - the second biggest popular vote deficit in history for a candidate who has still gone on to become President.

I loved that I did not see a single misspelled sign :) unlike some gatherings of rallies for Trump all year :)

Big deal. There are reasons why people misspell words. Some have learning disabilities, some aren't well educated, some didn't learn to spell certain words correctly, along with various other reasons.

The fact that they showed up at rallies shows they're interested in the election process and what the candidate had to say. These are people who go out on election day and vote, unlike the millions of people who didn't care about the election and stayed home. In other words, they're the smart people, despite misspelling words on their signs.
