Are they worried there’s a picture of Matthew Nilo in 2007-2008 with a bloodshot eye ball on his Facebook? (I had to google what happens after getting poked in the eyeball to see if bruising behind the eyes would come of it.)

Hi just an update in today’s Globe about Nilo’s case. Prosecutors are asking for more time to produce documents related to evidence that are due to the defense by January 2025.

I’m still watching this case hoping for justice here

IMO

Do we know how long this is put on pause?

I don't think the judge ruled yet on if the prosecution will get the delay they are asking for. It looks like they had a deadline of January 24th to turn over emails and texts sent by investigators working the case to Nilo's team. The Boston Globe article says a certain number of search terms had been agreed upon, that if a text or email contained that term, it would have to be turned over as germane to the investigation and Nilo's team had a right to see it. But now Nilo's lawyers have asked for more than 100 additional terms to be searched for in investigators' messages and turned over. Understandably, this adds quite a bit more work so prosecutors are asking for more time to complete it. The prosecutors say they want to conduct due diligence to ensure that only those BPD communications subject to the court’s order are provided to Nilo's counsel.

They have his friggin DNA!!!

OK, I've calmed down now. Pardon my outburst.

I want a fair trial, but let's get on with it! Think of how victims feel as they wait for justice.

Absolutely agree with you. It makes my blood boil to think of him out living his life while this is dragged on and on.

I think the prosecution is treading very carefully because his lawyers have signaled they are going to fight tooth and nail to omit the DNA evidence on constitutional grounds. Edit to add: And the defense team is, depending on how you look at it, either playing games by suddenly asking for additional investigators' work product that they know will be very time-consuming to produce, or "defending their client vigorously."

It makes me sick to see the gamesmanship, because the task force assigned to catch these cold case (and in many cases, serial) rapes used this technology extensively. So if this case is tossed on those grounds, the others may as well.

I’d feel worse about it if she left him and was trying to get on with her life. But she’s staying with him , so she is opening herself up to the publicity I guess.
Never underestimate the women’s ability to feel sorry for their men.

Seriously, this is the most surprising thing and it is hardwired into us all. From cleaning up after a drunk partner and treating his headache to standing up for their accused boyfriends or fiancés. I am not sure she is in denial; I think she heard his version, forgave him and is in his corner.

She should run as her life is being spent on this scary dude and she is 35. But I feel more sorry for her.

I should call Debbie at NBC Boston today and see if she can fill us in.

Debbie was in a meeting when I called earlier today. I will try her again on either Monday or Tuesday though!

PS - A wonderful woman out of Boston who has her own podcast/Youtube, It’s a Crime with Margaret, reached out a few months back about Matthew Nilo and wanting to cover him. I was really excited that she had interest in covering him - because no one does. We both thought it was important in communicating with his victim to spread more awareness. She was able to contact Elizabeth Pinkham (the only victim of his that had the courage to speak to the media and show her face.) and the last I heard from her was that she had lunch plans with Elizabeth.

I don’t know if Elizabeth Pinkham will ever read this post but I wanted to shout out that she’s so supported out there and her strength is limitlessly inspiring. I’m in her corner.

Thanks but that article is from two years ago.
I know. I didn't know if it was posted. (I wasn't following this case tbh, being absolutely positive that the guy was on his way to prison. Very much surprised with the delay.)

I think every article has been posted and dissected, mainly because the updates have been very few and far between. I'm disappointed that our local news isn't all over this (speaking as someone who lives here).

And the saga continues...

It is complicated. I never knew MH was “forbidden” for criminology, but if it is true but this very investigation predates the ban, it should be OK.

At the same time, Gedmatch is open for DNA comparisons, FTDNA allowed its databases to be used and has a huge agreement explaining it, for the users to sign it, so use of these two databases is legal, IMHO. And if his DNA yielded matches in these two companies that can’t be thrown out. JMO.

Imagine if this somehow gets dismissed… I would be willing to bet that he will sue any and every agency for defamation. This whole thing is immoral as is and I’m not a fan of him just getting away with any of this. I still believe if he truly wanted to clear his name and prove his innocence about any of this, he would just happily submit his DNA again.

He’s grody.

Sorry for no updates I have been in the process of moving cities/new home/basement renovations to flood damage. It’s been a crazy summer.. will update soon!

Best of wishes dealing with the move!

About dismissals of lawsuits…the story that we still follow in Colorado is a great life lesson. JMO.
