25 Investigates: Records suggest Brian Walshe may seek to move trial

Court records reveal his lawyers are researching media coverage of his case and that research could be used to request a change of venue.

Brian Walshe, the Cohasset father accused of murdering and dismembering his wife, Ana Walshe, may seek to have his upcoming jury trial moved out of the Norfolk County Courthouse in Dedham. Court records reveal his lawyers are researching media coverage of his case and that research could be used to request a change of venue.

Walshe, who is considered “indigent” and is being represented by taxpayer-funded public defenders, was recently granted a court-approved initial payment of $6,000 to hire a “media expert” according to his public docket sheet.

The paperwork filed by Walshe’s lawyers regarding the funding request has been sealed, preventing public access to the documents. Walshe’s legal team did not respond to a request for comment, and Scott Farmelant declined to comment.

Next hearing date 9/25/25 @ noon & then I have final pretrial hearing on 10/7/25 @ 9am.

*Status Hearing (@ 12pm ET) - MA - Ana Walshe (39) was last seen at her home in Cohasset shortly after midnight on New Year’s Day, Jan. 1, 2023, according to her husband. She was reported missing Wednesday, Jan. 4, 2023 from her employer in Washington D.C. - *Brian Reza Walshe (47/now 50) arrested (1/8/23), charged & arraigned (1/9/23) with intimidation/misleading police during the investigation into his wife's disappearance. Bond $5M Surety/$500K Cash. Plead not guilty. Quincy DC in Mass Court/moved to Norfolk Superior Court
*Re-Charged (1/17/23) & arraigned (1/18/23) with murder, assault to beat Ana with intent to murder & improper transport of body. Plead not guilty. Held without bond pending indictment. Held in Norfolk County Correctional Center.
*Indicted (3/30/23), re-charged & arraigned (4/27/23) with 1st degree murder, for misleading a police investigation/ obstruction of justice & for the improper conveyance of a human body. Plead not guilty. Held without Bond. Norfolk Superior Court
Trial set to begin on 10/20/25 with jury selection – should take several days & trial should last about 4 weeks.

9/12/25 Update: Walshe was stabbed last night according to his attorney at the Norfolk County House of Corrections in Dedham. He was taken to the BI, treated & has since been returned to the Dedham jail. Status hearing on 9/15/25.
9/15/25 Update: In Norfolk Superior Court on Monday, state prosecutors said officials reviewed materials found on former Massachusetts State Police Trooper Michael Proctor’s phone. There’s a federal order connected to the Karen Read trial saying the materials should be destroyed by mid-October. "We have completed our review & we are continuing our conversation with the U.S. Attorney’s Office & recognize that’s not a lot of information that we have for the court but that’s the extent of the information we have for the court today," prosecutor Lisa Beatty said. The lawyers have been waiting months for the Norfolk District Attorney's Office to release critical evidence, including between 3,000 to 5,000 pieces of communication stored in Proctor's cloud account. Similar evidence led to Proctor being fired for misconduct in the high-profile murder case of Karen Read, who was found not guilty in June. But before that information can be released, the DA's office said it must receive permission from the U.S. Attorney's Office & they requested additional time to get that clearance at Monday's hearing. But he scheduled a follow up hearing on 9/25/25 at noon to get an update. Also on Monday, Supreme Judicial Court Justice Elizabeth Dewar denied an appeal made by Walshe’s attorneys to suppress key Google searches found on his phone & two tablets belonging to his children.
9/15/25 Update: A single justice of the Supreme Judicial Court denied an appeal from lawyers representing Walshe, who had sought to suppress key Google search evidence at his forthcoming trial. Lawyers for Walshe sought to appeal the decision of a lower court judge that allowed prosecutors to use evidence of those searches at his October trial. They claimed police went beyond the terms of a consent agreement when they searched Walshe’s phone & two tablets belonging to his children. Justice Elizabeth Dewar denied the request to appeal the rulings by Judge Diane Freniere, writing that Walshe could “pursue his suppression claims in his direct appeal” if convicted. Allowing the motion to appeal “would not facilitate the administration of justice,” Dewar said. Walshe’s lawyers can appeal Dewar’s decision to deny their motion to appeal to the full Supreme Judicial Court.
