I think that both defense lawyers looked very defeated today with their heads hung most of the time. They knew what was coming.

They did the job they were hired to do but I think they will gladly leave this one behind.

Its so ugly.

Are BW's parental rights now able to be relinquished so that the 3 boys may be able to be adopted by Ana's sister?

Yes, I would assume family court. I was mainly talking about the LAW as previously I had read that if he BW is convicted of her murder then his parental rights will be lost. Just not sure if it was true or not.

Massachusetts does not currently have a "Son of Sam" law in effect; its version was struck down as unconstitutional by the state's Supreme Judicial Court in 2002 for violating free speech rights.

I would have to read more but I think it certainly weighs heavily in the Family Courts decision but maybe is not automatic ? I don't think the court will be giving him any rights after he murdered and hacked up the childrens Mother.
That pretty much speaks to him as a totally unfit parent and a danger for sure to the kids.

Impressed by this judge from beginning to end! I love judges who control the courtroom. You can see a big difference in the attorneys' behavior when a judge has that ability/skill. No shenanigans.

The audacity to say a consectitive sentence would be inhumane is only rivaled by the audacity of a "sudden unexplained death followed by a body chopping" defense. Defense attorneys love to get up there and crap on victim's families. In this case, what difference does it make if it's concurrent or consecutive? He's gonna die in prison. To argue it's "inhumane" because at the end of the day he is a human being is just inane. It seems designed to shame the victim's family and the community for asking for that sentence.

I suppose we duos be satisfied they said something. Ultimately that will help his future appeal go nowhere, I should think. Effective counsel, impeccable judge, substandard defendant.

I am reminded after this case as with others of the human toll and the collateral damage imposed by these criminals.
BW was dressed today like he was going to the yacht club for lunch. What in the world. Jacket collar popped and all.
Monsters truly living among us.
The guilty verdict is a win for justice as are the sentences just imposed but I am always left with an unsettling feeling.
They did all they could but nothing brings back Ana. It’s always a sobering surprise for me. How must her loved ones feel.
It’s the best that can be done.
I wish we could do more

While incarceration in and of itself shall not be grounds for termination of parental rights in most states, it appears that in MA, the time frame for termination proceedings is dependent on whether or not the child is being cared for by a relative, or if the child has been in foster care for 15 of the immediately preceding 22 months. And yes, the nature of BW's felony conviction will weigh heavily in this decision!

Sister lives in Canada. Something about that BW still had his parental rights as he had a relatively small federal sentence but now that he will be in jail for life I can't see how he would still have rights over them.
