Back in court this morning for the trial of man charged with slaying engaged doctors. It comes after an emotional day yesterday when a 911 call was played - Boston News, Weather, Sports | WHDH 7News

Detective Sean Wallace resumes testimony this morning. Defense attorney Steve Sack questioning him about responding to the #SouthBoston condo

Wallace testifies he did not enter the doctors penthouse. He went into the stairwell to clear it.

Wallace says while in the stairwell he heard 3-4 shots then “get on the ground” ... “drop the gun”, he opened the stair door to the penthouse hallway.

Wallace says in the hallway, Bampumim Teixeira was on the ground surrounded by 3 other officers. He joined to help cuff the suspect.

Defense asks about Teixeira’s condition. Wallace confirms he was “bleeding pretty good” ... “pool of blood on the floor.”

Wallace already testified that Teixeira smiled at him and made statements. Defense asked if Teixeira said “kill me! Kill me!”. Wallace says “I believe so”.

Defense attorney asks if any of police officers asked about where Teixeira’s gun was ... Wallace says “yes”. Wallace confirms no gun was found.

Wallace says he was interviewed by investigators 2 days after the incident. Defense asked if @bostonpolice usually write a form “right after” the incident. Wallace says “yes”. Defense sits and Prosecutor gets back up.

Prosecutor asks Wallace what happened when #EMS arrived. He said the officers lifted Teixeira and put him on a stretcher. Prosecutor John Pappas asks if Teixeira ever left his site after that. Wallace answers “no”.

Jury now leaving courtroom. They will board a bus to view 141 Dorchester Ave #SouthBoston, where the doctors lived.

Defense attorney says Teixeira will not be at the viewing. The jury will go inside the unit. Today, there does not appear to be as many of the victim’s family members in court.

Jurors have returned from tour of victims condo. Testimony has resumed with @bostonpolice officer Steven Collette taking the stand.

Collette says he responded to #SouthBoston condo for call of “person with a gun”. He says in the elevator going to the penthouse, he took his gun out of his holster. “We didn’t know what was going to open up once the elevator opened up”.

Collette says there was a call for the “gun car” which brings shields and long guns. When he got to the penthouse level w/other officers, he tells the prosecutor “I said gun car is on its way, maybe we should wait.”

Collette says officers announced themselves when entering doctors penthouse. He says an officer yelled “gun! gun!”

Collette says 5 seconds after shots were fired, someone approached with arms extended. “I saw what I perceived was a weapon.”

“I was in fear of getting shot or others getting shot, so I discharged my firearm twice,” says Collette. He tells the prosecutor the person kept coming his way so he discharged one more time.

Collette says the suspect, identified as Bampumim Teixeira, was on his knees shouting “shoot me! shoot me!”

Collette says one officer kicked Teixeira and he punched him to take him down. Collette says Teixeira had gloves and blood on his hands.

Collette says he had blood on himself and wasn’t sure if he was shot. He took off his own shirt to check. He was taken to a hospital for chest tightness.

Prosecutor John Pappas finishes and Defense attorney Steve Sack cross examines Collette.

Collette says he had no description of gunman from initial call but was told a last name “Field” ... he says at first he thought that was the gunman’s last name.

After hearing gunshots, Collette says “I was under the impression we were being shot upon.” Sack asks “you later learned the gunfire was from a fellow officer?” Collette confirms that"

Sack asks after Teixeira was down “Did you hear a gun drop?” Collette answers “My ears were ringing from the gunshots.”

Teixeira is pulling at facial hair on his chin listening to testimony.

Sack: “did you punch him in his face?” Collette: “I might have.” Collette says they were trying to subdue Teixeira and it all happened so fast.

Sack asked if Teixeira said anything to one specific officer. Collette says “no”.

Collette: “we lifted his shirt looking for weapons.” Sack: “did you find any?” Collette: “not at that time.”

Collette steps down from stand. Next up: Peter Janeliunas from @BEMSincidents

Janeliunas responded to #SouthBoston condo for a call of “person shot”. He says “we didn’t know much about what was going on.”

Janeliunas says when they got to 11th floor, he saw a man face down in handcuffs ... wearing dark clothing & dark gloves ... with blood on his right pant leg.

Janeliunas says patient said he’d been shot. When Janeliunas asked “by who?” he says patient didn’t answer.

Janeliunas says on initial observation patient had cut on left hand, 2 shots to his right thigh. He says patient wouldn’t answer any questions he asked. #7news

Janeliunas says in ambulance they addressed bleeding on patient’s right leg, gave him oxygen & checked vital signs. He says patient lost a significant amount of blood.

Defense asks when Janeliunas responded to “person shot” if he knew it was a police involved shooting. Janeliunas answers “not at that time

Defense asks Janeliunas if he had a substantive conversation with Teixeira. Janeliunas answers “no, he refused to talk to me.”

Jury visits South Boston condo where 2 doctors were murdered
Updated: Nov 26, 2019 - 4:55 PM
BOSTON - On day four of Bampumim Teixeira's murder trial, the jury went to the 11th-floor of the Macallen Building where police say two local doctors were found dead.

The full jury went by bus Tuesday to 141 Dorchester Avenue in South Boston where prosecutors say Dr. Lina Bolanos and Dr. Richard Field were murdered. When they returned to court, they heard the first testimony about where Bolanos and Field were found.

"I saw a man on the ground face down with hands behind back..." said Boston Police officer Christopher Carr.
[...]
He also told the jury what he saw written on a wall in the condo, "There were words he killed my wife, as well as an X drawn over a picture."

Another officer testified earlier that while arresting Teixeira after they shot him, he told them the victims killed his wife. There has been no additional evidence about what Teixeira was talking about but one officer also testified he was making other comments.

"Do you remember him yelling, kill me, kill me?" the defense attorney asked. The detective replied, "I do, I do remember that."

Disturbing details revealed about the findings inside the doctors #SouthBoston condo. Tuesday’s story below. Today is day 5 in this murder trial.

First witness called to the stand this am is Sgt. Edward Meade of the @bostonpolice. On May 5, 2017 he was working for the #SWAT team.

As Meade was responding to the scene, he heard on the police radio that officers were entering the penthouse, yelling, a person was shot and a call that police had fired.

Meade says the person who was shot was not there when he arrived.

Meade says he knocked on the doctors’ neighbor’s door. Neighbor said bullets came through her wall, she didn’t know what was going on, she gave him access to the roof deck and she was evacuated from home with SWAT shield protecting her.

Meade says when he arrived the residents of penthouse A had not been accounted for, so they plotted a “rescue mission”. #7news

Meade says they got a K9. Keys didn’t work for penthouse A, they broke in, announced K9 & entered. An officer said “I found a body”.

Meade describes finding man in back, hands tied, wounds on neck, in blood with a solvent on him. And then a woman on back, in liquid w/hands behind her back and clearly not alive.

Meade describes seeing photos of people on trips on a wall that had been marked with words “payback” and “you killed my wife” written alongside.

Photo of crime scene shown to jury. It is of writing on the wall. It says “he killed my wife”.

Prosecutor John Pappas shows jury two photos taken after SWAT entered the door. It shows lock smashed. Meade says they tried to use keys but “they didn’t work”.

Now defense attorney Steve Sack is cross examining Meade. Sack asks what Meade saw before entering penthouse A. Meade says he saw a trail of blood, a bag and knife on the ground.

Sack asked if Meade saw shell casings when he got off the elevator to the top floor. Meade says “yes”.

Bampumim Teixeira listening to testimony holding a pen with both hands.

Sack asks if Meade knew other officers had been in there before SWAT. He answers “not at that time”.

Sack says there were 2 investigations going on. 1) a police involved shooting & 2) homicide investigation. Meade steps down from stand.

Now Sgt. Scott Mackie of the @bostonpolice is called to testify. At time of the murders, he worked for the #SecretService as a detective for the forensic group.

Mackie is certified on software and tools used to examine cell phone calls and texts.

In that role, Mackie conducted physical exams and extracted info from cell phones.

On night of murders, Mackie responded as a member of the firearms discharge team. He says he was ordered to pick up a cellphone from a witness and process the phone back at the federal building's lab.

Mackie is shown a photograph of the phone’s screen because he could not download info from phone. Mackie then returned to the scene to download video from the building itself.

Mackie says it took 3 days to download a weeks worth of video from the building.

Mackie says in April of the same year he was given 2 cellphones to examine. He says the phones are barcoded, given a case number so they could be tracked when processed.

2 Phones are entered as exhibits. Mackie explains he tried to download instant messages, texts and phone logs in 2017 but could not because the phones were password protected. Technology improved over time and in 2019, Mackie was able to download info off both phones.

Mackie says info from each phone was several hundred pages long.

Teixeira appears to be taking notes during Mackie’s testimony.

One of the phones examined belonged to Dr. Richard Field.

Instant message sent from Dr. Field to Dr. Lina Bolanos at 5:47 pm on May 5, 2017 reads “traffic is horrible”. Mackie says it was never read by Bolanos.

Message sent from Amanda Gibbs (Lina’s godmother) at 6:09pm to Bolanos and others read “happy cinco de Mayo”. Mackie says Bolanos’ phone marked message “unread”

Mackie says at 6:31pm Field called Bolanos. The call was not picked up.

Mackie says last activity on Bolanos’ phone was at 4:41pm on May 5, 2017. There was a google search for Moroccan pizza.

Mackie says between 7:05pm - 7:45pm on May 5, 2017 ... Dr. Fields phone log shows 8 calls to 911 that lasted zero to 2 seconds.

Mackie says Dr. Fields phone also shows 911 call backs that lasted zero seconds and texts to Matthias Heidenreich at 7:47 pm.

Defense attorney is now cross examining Mackie. He asks if the company the building used for surveillance video is used often. Mackie answers “not much anymore”. Sack asks “is that because there were problems with it?” Mackie responded “I think technology has evolved.”

Teixeira is taking pages of notes.

Sack has Mackie read a message from Matthias Heidenreich to Richard Feild asking if he had “smoke to share”.

Defense is done questioning. Prosecutor redirects. Asks if Field ever answers Heidenreich’s message. Mackie says “no”.

After a brief break, Lt. Det. Daniel Duff is taking the stand. He works in the homicide unit of the @bostonpolice

On May 5, 2017 Duff says he got notification 2 people in an apartment were “not viable”. He responded to the scene. He says he also knew there was an officer involved shooting.

At scene, Duff says he learned two victims were bound and an individual was shot by responding officers and was taken to a hospital.

Duff says they marked evidence with markers, took video and pictures of the scene.

Duff describes seeing shell casings, boots, baseball hat, black bag, yellow shirt and a tube of body cream

Video being shown to jury of the crime scene. It’s silent in the courtroom.

Prosecutor shows a photo of hallway with evidence markers. He asked what they were marking. Duff says “shell casings”

Pappas enters into evidence the shell casings. Duff identifies them as the ones taken from the scene that night.

Pappas is going through evidence - showing Duff bags and asking he confirm their contents. He is now showing a knife that was bagged.

Inside a black bag found on the scene, Duff says they found a mask, a folding knife, duct tape with hair on it and a roll of duct tape.

Duff confirms another piece of evidence is a BB gun. He says that was found inside the black bag on scene as well.

Prosecutor shows folding knife to Duff. He says that was in the bag, in an open position with reddish brown stains on it.

Duff says wire cutters were also found in the bag. He says a yellow shirt was nearby with reddish brown stains.

Both items are shown to jury. Teixeira looks at each item and takes written notes.

Duff says they never processed the stairway or utility room next to the penthouse.

Last thing Duff says on the stand is that both victims were found with handcuffs on their wrists. Court is adjourned until Monday at 9am. I’ll have a full wrap up of the day on #7news this evening.
