Floyd Black, 61, was last seen in Barnstable on August 1 but has completely vanished.

Black was last seen in Barnstable at a shelter where he was living. His family said he left the shelter with a backpack, presumably to catch a bus, so he could stay with his daughter in Falmouth, but he never arrived.

The family tells us Black has medical issues and needs his medication. They say they're very concerned for his wellbeing.

Falmouth family seeks help to find missing man
[...]

A redhead with blue eyes, Floyd Black is 5 feet, 10 inches tall and weighs 140 pounds. He reportedly left a sober house on Baxter Road in Hyannis around Aug. 8, bound for Falmouth.

The 61-year-old has a myriad of health problems that include Alzheimer’s disease, bipolar disorder, an old head injury and a heart condition. While he often gets confused, this lengthy absence is unusual, his family says.

[...]

Floyd works as a mason with Kerry’s husband. They discovered he was missing when he didn’t turn up for work, and they contacted the sober house in Hyannis.

“We talked to the seven people in there and got four different stories,” Black said. Details on when he left varied. Some said he packed his clothes and took them with him. Others said he threw everything away.

[...]

Black has organized five evening searches in the Seacoast Shores area of East Falmouth, where her father lived for 30 years, combing through patches of woods and along the shore with friends and volunteers. While he may not be able to tell authorities his daughter’s address, he would gravitate to that area.

[...]

“He moved out and was allegedly moving to a residence in Falmouth,” said Barnstable police Sgt. Eric Drifmeyer. “The officers spoke with management at the Baxter Road house who confirmed he moved out, but said he left no forwarding address. We spoke with the daughter and she said she checked the hospitals.”

Drifmeyer said there is no active missing persons investigation. “I told her if she developed new information, report it to us and we’ll act on it,” he said.

[...]

“We are investigating every possible sighting,” Dunne said. “We had a captain of the detectives wandering around the woods. On the midnight shift, we had thermal imaging as cruisers patrolled areas the family said he likes to frequent.”

The family has asked for “K-9s and a helicopter,” the Falmouth chief said. “But we have to have a place to start.”

[...]

Kerry Black wants police to check video footage from the surveillance cameras on the buses. “They might show where he got off,” she said. “I’d look at it myself if they would let me.”

That was an excellent, but sad, article, @PommyMommy! The daughter sounds just heartbroken by the disappearance of her father. I hope Floyd can be found soon.

Falmouth, Barnstable police searching for 61-year-old man missing from Cape Cod for two months - The Boston Globe
  • Falmouth and Barnstable police are searching for FB, missing since he left his Cape Cod sober house and got on a bus more than two months ago.
  • His daughter believes he got on the wrong bus.
  • KB said her father probably doesn’t remember who he is. She said she is worried he has not taken medication in two months.
  • “If he knew who he was, he would get in contact with me,” KB said. “I’m his only daughter. He thinks people are after him, so he’s not going to ask for help. I feel like not having the meds is making him worse and worse every day, which is why I can’t find him.”
  • KB and LE have gotten numerous tips that FB was spotted on Cape Cod and around Boston. Cambridge and Boston police have not gotten any reports about him, police said.
  • “We are still actively working on it and continuously interviewing people. We’ve chased many leads that have turned out to be dead ends,” said Barnstable Police Detective Lieutenant Mark Mellyn, whose department is also searching for Black.
