‘It was an excellent cross, but it nullified by an excellent redirect and the sheer power of Barros' unequivocal claim about the condition of the taillight. Defense was aided by Barros' perfect demeanor and his willingness to acknowledge he didn't remember the photo properly. This prosecution is on life support. And the ARCCA guys haven't even come in yet.’

IMO ‘shredded’ is a massive overstatement. He mistakenly thought he saw a still in trial 1 that he didn’t. It doesn’t change anything else.

He has absolutely nothing to gain (and apparently in MA, everything to lose) by testifying honestly that Karen’s tail light was not damaged to the extent seen in the Sallyport.
He was shown two tail light pictures that matter. ABSOLUTELY not was the answer when asked if it was all smashed out of the frame, the tail light when he saw it in Dighton. SOOOOO, the many broken up tail light pieces scattered over time about the lawn of B.A? imo

Like her or not, Karen Read has had her life turned upside down by crooked cops. She was a wealthy, successful single woman accomplishing everything and has now lost her home, jobs, 401k, etc., all because - why??? Brian Higgins, Brian Albert - you got some 'splaining to do!!

And her boyfriend. Maybe they didn't always have the healthiest relationship, but still... The whole thing is tragic all around.

I’m guessing the “side swipe” is hitting his arm holding a glass and spinning him around thing??
This is my point somewhat .... leaving the jury to guess/imagine/"accept the vagueness" of what a "side-swipe" entails is utterly deceitful .... but did Welcher actually describe it with pics/diagrams/videos etc? I would be happy to wade thro his testimony vids if he did, just don't want to waste my time if was all just vagueness ..

Dighton police sergeant testifies

Barros said he learned from Proctor that a towing company would be coming to Read’s parents’ home to retrieve Read’s vehicle in connection with the investigation into O’Keefe’s death. Earlier in the day, Read had driven to her parents’ house.

As state police investigated, Barros said, he was outside and saw damage to Read’s SUV.

“I saw there was some damage to the right rear tail light,” he said. “It was cracked. A piece was missing. But it was not completely damaged.”

Barros said there was some snow covering a portion of the tail light and agreed with Lally, saying it was “caked on there.”

Barros said he waited between 30 and 60 minutes for Proctor and Bukhenik to come out and never saw anyone messing with the tail light.

Barros finished testimony near 10:50 a.m. and the defense declined to cross examine him.

Officer Nicholas Barros was shredded on cross
He was wrong - there’s photo and video evidence proving he was wrong

Imo
He absolutely wasn't shredded on cross

It was an excellent cross, but it nullified by an excellent redirect and the sheer power of Barros' unequivocal claim about the condition of the taillight. Defense was aided by Barros' perfect demeanor and his willingness to acknowledge he didn't remember the photo properly. This prosecution is on life support. .7.2. Genetic analysis

Genetic testing of animal biological material has become a valuable tool in criminal forensic investigations. Canine biological evidence can often be left behind on a victim or at the scene of an attack and may include dog saliva from bite marks on the skin or clothing, as well as dog blood, hair, and faeces [81]. Canine saliva can be recovered from the area directly surrounding the human wound, where the dog’s gums and flews touched the skin of the bitten person [79]. Saliva samples need to be taken immediately as DNA can easily be removed and degraded by washing or medicating the wounds [75].

Thanks for this. How unfortunate the ME never swabbed the arm wounds, and never investigated or sought an outside/ independent opinion on them. She just measured them and said the equivalent of 'don't ask me'. Proctor never told her about the dog living at 34 F though, so there's that. Jmo.

And? What is the significance of that to you? He already testified on direct that the damage was far less. Why mess with perfection?

So many highlites today

But Brennan getting out foxed by Dr Russell ,
Who he wanted to paint as a senile old woman ready for the home
Was a thing of Beauty
And the look on her face when he came at her with that
"Trouble with your memory Doctor?"
Priceless
She could buy and sell him intellectually

Worth repeating...

Brennan's cross of Barros was very good, but Alan did a perfect redirect and the end sum is that the most honest cop in this fiasco is 100% that the taillight had a small crack and looked nothing like it did when the MSP took a phot of it in the sallyport. And those videos/photos don't help the DA nearly as much as Brennan thinks they do.

I had to mute him - His voice and inuendo is like nails on a chalkboard to me how he tries to discredit people who are just doing their civic duty with no agenda JMO
Seriously, well said!

When I hear that voice, I think it sounds like he has cotton between his cheeks and teeth like when you’re about to have dental work.

I felt bad for how uncomfortable he seemed on the stand, especially since it seemed like he didn’t participate in any of the nastiness in the group thread.
Agree! Hopefully he has another batch of friends who aren’t despicable.

I'm not hearing whatever it is you're hearing. Sorry, Barros was credible and told the truth. AJ redirected well and pointed the jury back to what matters. Jmo

Look at his last sentence!!!

Really good cross by Brennan under impossible circumstances. Barros basically ended the case on direct and Brennan has to crush his memory/credibility to even get it back on life support.

I think Barros' testimony was just too devastating. And on redirect Jackson simplified it that we don't remember every detail about everything. But you remember the condition of the taillight.

And another crushing blow - the CW called you last year, but they never talked to you again after your testimony about this taillight."
