Knowing this particular judge, she'll send the jurors home right after closing arguments, and they'll have to wait until Monday to begin deliberating.
I hope that I didn't just speak that into existence.
IMO.

Yep! I agree. Friday is 'get to the beach house' day for JBC. She's gonna send them home 'early' on Friday. No time to deliberate. IMO

I just do not understand this whatsoever!!! What the heck? CW gets the last word over the defense? Seems so absolutely backwards.
I believe it’s because the CW has to prove the burden, and that the CW having the ‘last word’ is supposed to essentially give them ample opportunity to prove guilt beyond reasonable doubt. I think it’s also why they get the first opening argument. All IMO though

The judge took a break and is now discussing the power point Rentschler used and whether it can be admitted. Cannone wants to know if videos in there have been admitted previously. Brennan is objecting to have it admitted in its entirety

Attorney Yannetti is telling the judge the defense of renewing its request for a directed finding of not guilty. He’d like time to argue that in the morning.

Attorney Alessi is arguing some items marked for identification should be entered into evidence as exhibits.

Special Prosecutor Hank Brennan says he will call no further witnesses. So that’s off the table. Jurors will not come in tomorrow. Closing arguments Friday. Then deliberations begin!

first photo is from autopsy... other photos, he moved them to represent how Welcher had his arm in the paint test video.

blue lines show the direction... do not line up according to Rentschler.

Wonderful explanations and visuals to demonstrate why the Welcher ‘test’ was not scientifically based. So glad to see sound science in this case presented clearly to the public!

Citizens should be livid that the tax payer dollars were used to pay Welcher to create pseudoscience to fool the jury!! That is exactly what happened! Aparature is nonsense!

It is pretty clear JOK’s arm was not at a right angle. If these are defense wounds where he was actively protecting himself from attack- I’m curious if he was standing, sitting, or laying down.
He may have been unconscious at the time.

IMO

AR gives birthday (who does that during a murder trial) wishes to his kid. Did he think about the grieving mother who tragically lost her son is sitting in the courtroom.

-- Both ARCCA witnesses gifted the CW.

-- It’s rather interesting that the defense expert (EL & AR) witnesses apparently wanted to get their own direct point of views across, rather than state their professional opinion. Very salty biased behavior.

-- Never seen so many defense expert witnesses willing to lie under oath/compromise reputation.
-- Dancing around simple questions asked by Attorney Brennan. Couldn’t answer simple questions. Vague.

Until he wanted the jury to hear:
"I dont think he got hit by the car, sir." - RA

Rentschler says.. look at the arm.. look at the elbow... the car wouldn't contact the elbow. In order to get the pattern on the arm... the surrogate throws his elbow into the arm .. he plays the video slowly, it shows Welcher moving his elbow into the blue paint tail light.

(I am not talented enough to grab a video of the video he showed quick haha )

Is that proper scientific testing? objection.. sustained.

What a ridiculous pseudoscience test to fool the jury!!
Anyone associated with Welcher should be embarrassed!
- no measurements?
- no sound science?
- no review of the x rays?

How infuriating to do shabby work and charge tax dollars so you can fool them!!
Welcher is done!
How inhumane to create shabby evidence to frame a person for murder!!

Drop the charges!
Heads in Norfolk County should roll!

IMO

This is the first trial I’ve watched in its entirety. What is a charge conference?

It's basically both sides coming to an agreement on what the jury instructions are and how they are read and how the charges are worded. It's a little more complicated than that, but that's the gist of it.

Because it came up, above: These excerpted from video of testimony first trial AJ cross examine of BA. This the bulkhead arrangement one still from just after the incident and one still after the upgrade....
Upper photo is the After: White man door at bottom of (I believe...) wooden steps, it has a profile face. Steel bulkhead door with gas strut to right. Immediately below lower end of strut is CC retaining wall, which actually exists on 3-sides.

Lower still is from indoors, with man door open, looking to underside of bulkhead doors. Bulkhead doors and steps appear to be wooden and man door is dark on outside face, has no profiling, is a flat plane on side we can see. This still obviously in low light; can be seen a little better on video:
Cured at time 1:03.

Steps appear steep in both views and there is no apron beyond lowermost step, appears to be a metal threshold plate. Descending, a person would seem to have to turn knob and open door with their feet at least one step above the interior floor level or their feet would tend to be wedged between the lowermost riser and the man door panel.

And look at how that turned out last time. I bet the defense is going to go hard on getting jury instructions that the jury actually understands! No reason for confusion on the instructions.

Curious what everyone thinks about the decision to not put on a rebuttal. From what I understand, CW had 3 witnesses to bring back, including Welcher, and now none?

Regardless of your leaning on G or NG, what do you think is the strategy? Does Hank feel he has a good enough case not to bring them? Or does he just think it will make bad worse? Serious thoughts, please.
