The problem I have is that a person under extreme DUI would probably be too wasted to rape and then try to cover up their crime only to get on the highway going the wrong way to get caught. I am not saying it couldn't happen. i just doubt it. I believe we are looking for a very cold & calculated individual who probably has had experience in this before.

I think the accident occurred the next day, the implication being that the perp was distraught in the aftermath in some manner (accident, drinking, suicidal) and drove in the wrong direction on the highway, not that he committed this crime and then immediately got into an accident.

Of course, this is only speculation & thinking aloud, nothing confirmed or even hinted at in MSM as far I know to date.

Well, when a young woman is found naked and murdered, guessing sexual assault isn't much of a stretch. A source variously cited as with the state police or the sheriff's department has said her hands, feet, and part of her head were burned. Today a source (might or might not be the same one) said it appears she had been strangled.

In Massachusetts, the DA's office is in charge of investigations and decides what information will be released. Typically they don't release much until after an arrest.

No that's not what I'm saying at all. The time line would not match up for a scenario like that. Vanessa's death happened btw 1-4pm Sunday. The crash happened Monday night. I'm not suggesting he was high when he killed her. I'm suggesting that perhaps he wasn't quite right after committing the crime and went off the rails over 24 hrs after it happened.

All news sources are reported it that way.

From Channel 5, WCVB. This is the article that's currently on their site.

A state police source told NewsCenter 5 that the woman's body was found naked and burned.

“A preliminary review of the body has led detectives to believe this is a homicide investigation,” District Attorney Joseph Early Jr. said. "We do not know if this is a random act.”

A state police source at the scene told NewsCenter 5 that it was not immediately clear if Marcotte was assaulted, but she was naked. The woman's hands, feet and part of head were burned, the source said.

Is this a serial jogger killer?
Police won't rule out link between murders of
lookalike Google worker and New Yorker
slaughtered while out running

Police officials have 'not ruled out' a connection between the murders of Karina Vetrano and Vanessa Marcotte
Vetrano, 30, was murdered while jogging in Queen on Tuesday, August 2
Marcotte, 27, was killed during a run on a trip to Massachusetts, Sunday
Both victims are successful, attractive New Yorkers, killed while jogging
Police say they're not ruling out possibility the two deaths are connected

Just getting here -- catching up. I saw this article, and then I came directly here, and sure enuff, there's a thread for her here. Bless her heart. It sounds like she was a fine person with a good future ahead of her.

Another ugly one. What makes people do such such awful things to their fellow human beings? SMH.

I hope this article has not been posted already -- if so, please forgive. Within this article is a link to another good article about all this.

In the article cited in the lead article below, the LEO's are asking people to be alert and careful. Ummmmff. Sounds serious and scary to me -- joggers need to pair-up or go to a gym.

Dammit.

[h=1]Body of 27-year-old missing jogger found in Princeton
[/h]PRINCETON, Mass. -- (WBZ) -- The body of a 27-year-old woman was found in a wooded area in Princeton Sunday night after she went out for a jog earlier in the day. Police were searching for the woman, Vanessa Marcotte, after her family reported her missing Sunday afternoon.

I live in the area. Are police looking into a connection with this story? http://www.masslive.com/news/worcester/index.ssf/2016/06/police_release_sketch_of_suspe.html
In two separate incidents in the same day in June, female joggers were approached by a stranger. Westborough and Northborough are only about 30 minutes from Princeton. If you are a local of either of those towns, it wouldn't be unusual to head to the Princeton area to do a hike at the mountain on a nice weekend.

Hey what a great first post! Has no one else picked up on that yet?

OT - don't think even running as I used to with my gal was that safe, looking back on it.

I haven't heard anything yet. I'm hoping they will soon!
Can we please discuss her phone pinging by the Mountainview Barn Restaurant at 2:25 pm? I'm assuming they are trying to piece together her final run. I've done it on google maps and there are a few options.
Being from the area, this is so frightening. Princeton is a beautiful, rural and safe town. It also doesn't have any major highways or even roads running through it- in other words, it's not like truckers/ transients are moving through. You would kind of have to seek it out specifically. Rt. 31 is the busiest road and it's hardly busy. I think it is someone local to the area. I really don't think the Queens jogger is connected at all. I think people like to jump to "serial killer" quickly because it's too terrible to think that there could be more than one of these psychos on the loose. Just my two cents.

Thanks for local info - and agree about it not being a serial killer attacking both Karina and Vanessa. Possibly be local who is prompted to act after reading about Karina, or simply coincidence.

They have been saying that since the body was first discovered on Sunday night. Since they don't know if it was random or not, and since nothing even close to this has ever happened in this town before, local law enforcement which is less then 10 full time cops has rightly warned the local community since the beginning of this.

They released a sketch of the possible suspect in the westborough and northborough incidents. Though they believe there was two men.the sketch they released is of a Hispanic man.

The thing is well for one a Hispanic man or two milling around Princeton would definetly stick out, and two the places people hike around the mnt are t anywhere near where she was found, and on a side street that wouldn't be common to just end up in if you were just heading into town for hiking.

I agree, as a local myself (grew up in a neighboring town in the same school district so went to school with people from Princeton. All 5 towns in the district are more like one big town). Anyway I agree it had to be someone who knew the area. And I think someone who even knew her.

I hadn't heard her cell phone pinged in front of Mt Barn. That seems like a strange place to run too. Maybe she was doing a loop though?

I'm not sure where the info that her phone pinged in front of the mnt barn came from, but if it is true, I put together this map of the area and perhaps her run route.

It occurred to me if she did take this route she might have been running on 31 and looped back into back roads from the center of town. The point is if she did take this route, it increases the chances that a random person could have spotted her and followed her when she turned back down into a more secluded section.
