Regarding socks statement about the pond, he went there the day after not the day of, so I don't see how that would relate to cleaning himself up after a crime. Hiding evidence perhaps but not cleaning up himself.

I think you miss my suggestion here. I'm not suggesting he committed this crime. He had contact with children. Perhaps he noticed one had more of an interest in fire than others?o

Actually it's not clear at all that it was the day after that he went to the pond. He was questioned the day after the murder about his whereabouts on the day of the murder..

I've been dwelling on the choice of burn spots on the body, and they almost seem to align with Christ's crucifixion. The crown of thorns, the nails in feet and hands. Perhaps I am reaching too far on this, but I wouldn't rule out a religious/psychotic fanatic. No offense intended to anyone with this notion.

That's very possible.The news reported that she was sexually assaulted ,and I wondered why he didn't burn her mid section if he was trying to cover up DNA.
I also wondered if the police may have been looking for a condom on that second search, but he may have burned that too, if she was sexually assaulted.
I guess we just don't know enough about that part yet.

I think sexually assaulted could mean anything. Meaning any violation that may or may not left dna behind. I'm not going to try to be more specific. But, I think a crime could be sexual in nature or intent, but not necessarily crescendo as the perp may have intended. Another words, the perp may have planned some sexual assault, never was able to enact it, but left enough evidence to communicate his intent to LE. The point is, there is not enough information known as to what sort and to what extent a sexual offense took place aside from that it did. I can think of many cases where people were violated in extraordinary ways that would not have left dna.

I agree. It;s been a month since he was swabbed for his DNA. Plenty of time to determine if it belongs to him or not. (If they got any from her) They interviewed him in time to discover scratches and/or bruises on his face as well, if he had any. I am going to say they are looking elsewhere. If it was Socks, and Socks lives near by, I don't see why the police would continue asking people to report seeing a car in the area. JMO.

The more I think about this case, the more I am settling on my hypothesis that this wAs a neighbor, a watcher. He knew her clockwork routine for that Sunday jog before she head back home to NYC. This was well planned, lay in wait. This will be a special circumstances prosecution. She knew him, probably only from a distance, or incidentally. But he knew her every move.
Again, it's my guess he is very close to that family home, and because of the fire element, youngish. Late teens, very early 20's. Still living at home.
All just speculation, of course.

Actually it's not clear at all that it was the day after that he went to the pond. He was questioned the day after the murder about his whereabouts on the day of the murder..

In an article attached to one of the videos when it originally came out, the article states in the interview that he said he spent Monday at a local pond. They don't show the whole interview on the video. But they did state that in an article about the interview. So we actually do know when he said he went to the pond, and that was on Monday when he skipped work. Sunday he said he was home watching tv.

I agree with you. Also LE has never confirmed sexual assault, it's only been hinted at in media that she was sexually assaulted.....same with cause of death, no confirmation of strangulation by LE but reports of it as the cause in media.

I think it's possible that there were signs of sexual assault....ie no clothes....perhaps bruising in private areas....but there might be no evidence of semen. It's possible you could have violated her with an object.

My other thought, as I have had a weird feeling about the crime scene from the beginning, is that it always felt "staged" to me.

I still think it's someone she knew or at least knew her, got close to her by being at least visually familiar, but wanted the crime scene to look like a stranger rape and murder case. I think it's possible it could have been staged to look like a sexual crime regardless if it was.

In her Twitter feed she mentioned that she was running the race in Falmouth on the 17th. Apparently she was in town to train for that run? I wonder if she was running it every day.
Forgive me I don't have the timeline straight. It would seem that someone could have been noticing her running that road previously.

There was a memorial run for her memory on the night of the 11th in Princeton.

It's possible to have found DNA on her, that they could match to him without being able to arrest him.

Depending on the type of DNA found in her body, connecting it to him might only prove he had contact with her, but it would t neccasarily be enough to prove he murdered her.

It's possible they still have their eyes on him. His family could have lawyered up to keep info out of the press. It's possible that police could still suspect him, but don't have enough on him for an arrest at this point.

I do agree it's likely someone local. But I'm not sure I agree that this was well planned. I'd think a well planned crime would have caused more fire damage to the body or would have taken attempts to conceal the body....but instead her body was left out on a path. I don't see how if someone planned it, they wouldn't have planned destroying evidence or concealing the body more thoroughly.

Falmouth is on Cape Cod about two hours from Princeton. It's also really flat, whereas Princeton is hilly.....I don't see why her purpose of coming and running in Princeton would be directly related to training for the Falmouth road race. She could have just as easily run in NYC to train for the Falmouth road race.

That said we do know she came home frequently and had a routine of going for a run or walk before catching her Sunday afternoon bus home.
