True, but they can return and we know they in fact did return questioning neighbors 'after' dark SUV report.
It sounds like they suspect a neighbor if they did that.

That is not really true FM, many companies use SUV's. Not for heavy duty work but it depends on what kind of company it is.

My mind thought car rental places mechanics and car dealerships

Not debating what it could be. It could even be a school bus! I think one thing that people on this site are failing to understand about my approach to all of this is that I'm just trying to ask which possibility is MOST LIKELY. None of us know for sure what happened. The best thing we can do here is for each little part we discuss, we can bring up as many different scenarios as possible. Then, based on probability, we can decide if one scenario is more likely than another.

That's all I'm trying to do. I'm not saying that no work vehicles are SUVs. I think you guys did a great job providing examples, and proving that case. So, it could have been a work vehicle, yes.
But, if the perp used a work vehicle, what is the relative liklihood that it would be an SUV? I'm only guessing here, but given your examples, of all contractor/worker company vehicles, what percentage might be SUVs? 10%? 25%? Even if 25%, which I think is a mighty fair HIGH CONSERVATIVE estimate, it still means that if a work vechicle was used, there would be a 75% chance it would not be an SUV, under this example. Therefore, I have some reason to believe this would not have been a work vehicle, as it's statistically unlikely.

We are discussing work vehicles because we want to know if the perp might not be fully associated with the vehicle, right? And so by work vehicle, what we mean is a vehicle that wouldn't normally be parked at the perps house, or that someone wouldn't necessarily immediately associate with the perp, right? Does this make sense?
If the "work" vehicle is the perps main vehicle and kept at his house, that diffuses the whole point of this angle. What we are really trying to look at here, is if the perp used a vechile DIFFERENT from one he is usually associated with, in order to cover his tracks.

Isn't that the idea?

If it is the idea, many of the SUVs fall out of the possibility. But even if we keep them all in consideration as a conservative hypothesis, they still are more unlikely than likely.

Yes that's what I was going for purely cause I debated could someone take their works rental car or for sale car or if a mechanic could take a car he's working at or even a place towed vehicles end up. Just something meaning it wouldn't be in the driveway

I agree with everything you posted here.
She was the target, he had stalked her in the past, planned it out in his head , but did not think it through enough to bring a shovel, or dig a hole in advance, Sexual Sadist who spend more than just 15 minutes with her, and enjoyed causing her pain.
I am going with psychopath, but that's JMO.
The million dollar question , is, where did he stalk her from? I asked FM if she ran Mathews Lane, because you can see the road from the few houses that are on that road. It would also make for easy access to the rear of VMs moms house through the woods, if someone wanted to lurk from there. There is a cam mounted on the house at 44 Mathews Lane, but looks more pointed down that pointing towards the road.
One thing said she was a tutor if it's a young person maybe they became obsessed and she also volunteered so that could be an option alsk

Someone who welds I believe wiuld have a torch for work. Would a mechanic? Cause what if one took someone's SUV he was working on to do this and he had a torch via that? Also are there any houses or businesses next to the area it pinged? For whoevert was that asked about sex offenders, there's a few articles that show they did test them in a however large radius and made ones who's DNA they didn't have give DNA.

I've been pondering in my mind as to why that "ping" came from the Mountain Barn.
After some discussion, I believe everyone is in agreement that the "Find My Phone" app was used, due to the reasoning if the phone was tracked using stored data from phone co. records, it would have taken a lot more time to obtain that information.
The belief was that her phone was there at the Mountain Barn, physically, because the app uses GPS, and the accuracy is close with a GPS. So many assume that the perp had her phone with him.
I dug up some info on "Find My Phone", and the accuracy, and from what I gather, if the phone is shut off, the location will be close, but vague.
After reading this, I am led to believe that the perp did not have her phone at the Mountain Barn, and that the phone was shut off, causing the "vague" location.
I was trying to figure why this guy would carry her phone with him, and take the chance of being tracked himself, and it didn't make sense to me. Now there is an explanation.

True enough but the phone was not found at the scene as far as we know. So if it wasn't at the mountain barn where was it ?

Yes I mentioned "loaner" cars as these wouldn't necessarily be traceable as to who was using them. LE should go the major auto dealer/repair shops and ask to see their fleet of loaners and any systems they might have for tracking who used them/who had access to them.

Well honestly I can bet that has already been done and that LE has pretty much pulled out all the stops on this.
That is why I think the family has now come before the public pleading for anything to kind of shake peoples memories.
And as far as her phone do we definately know that LE does NOT have it?

we know that it was not found at the scene initially. It could have been found on the subsequent search involving the brown paper bag but I'd rather doubt it because they would have likely found it on the first try. Something small like a contact lens would be more likely.

That's what's my mind goes by how they word it as if the person didn't pan the car. That or someone's kid as we've said. Hopefully you don't own the same type of vehicle we wouldn't want them thinking you're the guy when you go check the area out! If it at all was someone living out of town who worked with her or use to live there then they could take a rental there easily.

Which means we do not really know if they have the phone in their hands or not. And IF they do there must not have been anything on it to help in the investigation.
The vegitation is thick in August so maybe yes they could have found it on the second sweep, or on the first for that matter, we dont know.
I lost an expensive pair of sunglasses in a case out in the woods one time. I cant tell you how many times I went out searching for them, then again went back in the fall looking and looking. I knew where I was but I never found those glasses. Then again I am not LE but I looked hard.

So does the carte path you hid spoke of loop round or is it like a shortcut? I feel likethe only way he did this without a scream was getting the jump on her on it. Or he had a gun but didn't use it except to keep her quiet. She's a runner so had he came at her on the road I feel she could escape

Well we know they didn't find it on the first sweep because it was reported that the phone was missing. As were A single shoe and her clothes.

Finding things is actually my main passion in life. I've got an extensive collection of Native American artifacts that I've spotted in the dirt in the agricultural fields near where I live. I have been using a metal detector to look for old things since I was 12 years old, more than 20 years ago. I found some Roman coins in England this summer just where a Roman left them back in about 160 AD. I wonder if anyone went back to thoroughly check the scene after all of the undergrowth plants had died. It is amazing what you can see in winter that you can't see in summer.

Geeezzz FM where were you when I was hunting for those glasses???? The Roman coins were an awesome find.

Yes I would tend to believe they have gone through that area with fine tooth combs for sure. The problem is also once the leaves fall everything is covered but I can bet that was done long before that happened. They know what they are doing.

This is a very obvious question but I ask it because maybe it is so obvious.

If someone saw the SUV but weren't close enough to see the license plate (and why would they anyway not knowing it may have been connected w/a murder.) then maybe they recalled the color of the plate.

Some plates really stand out and you can at least tell the state it's from. IE: New York used to have those mustard Colored plates. Ugly but there was never any doubt what state that car was from and you could recognize it a mile away.

Does MA, N.Y. and or surrounding states have plates that stand out?

FM : If possible when you visit the CS, could you take a look at the burn marks on the trees ? Assuming they still show. Interested in knowing if the whole tree trunks were burnt, or just certain areas. As in, was V tied to a tree while standing up, before she was burned ? Sorry to be so graphic. Also, when you first set foot in the CS area, what are your gut feelings ? Above all, be safe. TIA

I just searched for her FAcebook profile to see if she was friends with the other party involved in a fatality the day after (subject was working in a trade where torches are often used) but I came across a weird profile with VM's name. THe profile picture was of pia muehlenbeck and it said "VM just changed HIS profile picture". Its quite odd, with a wallpaper photo of Chinese Poker. Prob too much overthinking this but its weird - Chinese Poker often involves "beginners luck" according to Wikipedia.

Weird ****. Profile of a gamer/techie. Foreign Language, perhaps Indonesian. Tempted to contact LE. Also, LE should reach out to anyone who was renting via AirBnb that weekend.

AT the very least LE needs to follow up on the owner of that profile.

Strange...may I ask you : why did you think the language was Indonesian ? TIA

I think it's fair to say he doesn't have it. If he did, even with the phone shut off, it would have been tracked. Not to his living room, but close.
Then you have to ask why he would be that dumb to carry it with him?
I think he threw it in the woods, and, it may have been what LE found on that second search... what was in the bag.
They also went back out once the vegetation died off, If I remember right, it was the day after they released the information about the SUV.. They could have found it then.

NY plates have been blue lettering/numbers with a gold background for about 5 or 6 years. Before that, they were blue letters/numbers with a blue/white background, and there are still plenty of those around.
Ma. has red letters/numbers with a white background, and a few older (very few) green letters/numbers with a white background.

It would be nice to get the exact quote in regards to her clothing/phone being missing, and even more important, when that was revealed. If MSN got that from a "source" the night she was found, it may have been premature because they may have found those articles the next day when it was light.
