Why walk on the train track? Read he walked on the walkway, then walked on train track, then ... gone.

Do you think this was intentional? Perhaps the video does not provide that certainty (unclear if he fell as an accident or on purpose)? So, that's why the odd words ("went").?

I am sure if this where they are talking but checking out barriers again you cant slip and end up over an 8 foot protective barrier you fall down on the link fence

The railroad bridge is a drawbridge. This a photo of the underside where the police are standing in the above photo I posted. The bottom of the pic is where it would meet at the shore where the police are standing on the tracks. It is in the raised position here, but the structure of the tracks is clearly visible. Notice that the metal grating has gaps in it.

I could easily see someone walking along the tracks, without sufficient lighting, falling right through. Especially if there was ice on the structure.

Agree. He may not have even realized there were gaps, and just started across unaware.

Or if he did see, perhaps he thought it would be easier than it is to avoid them, by keeping to the side, say, but even sober, the terrain is more uneven and treacherous than it appears. So easy to stumble on a railway bridge...

especially if you are tired, and cold.

Ok, I don't understand why he left the Bell in Hand area and walked all the way up there, but seeing the walkway--that does not look good / makes sense. Ugh.

Accidental. If he did it with intent, it would make more sense to go over the side, rather than down between the tracks.

Can't wrap my head around how he ended up there. I still don't see really under the influence and wandering aimlessly. To walk from the Market to there, how many intersections would he have had to cross? Quite a few. He obviously navigated those. Was he annoyed with the cousins for not coming out sooner with his coat, said 'to heck with you guys, I'll go back to the station and catch a late train home.' Books it to the station because he thought there was one last train towards home at 2:00, phone dies (or he shut it off to save battery), finds there are no more trains, then thinks he has no other option than to return home on foot, the way he came in? Damn, it's just too cold for that. And too far. If the video is timestamped like the others, that might piece it all together.

I was thinking about that too. When your ouside in the freezing cold, four minutes can feel like forty. I know lots of people who get really irritable and angry when they are hungry/cold... could he have said, screw this, they are taking forever, I'll catch a train?

I don't know. Still doesn't seem unreasonable, why not Uber?

If his phone died, he couldn't get an Uber.

This case continues to sadden me. I don't think the public needs to see the video, but LE and the family do. Did he walk to the water and jump in, or was he trying to get somewhere (who knows where) and slipped and fell accidentally?

When I look at the street where the Bell in Hand is, I could see suddenly not knowing where the front door was, except according to the bar people were coming and going during that time. If he felt he wasn't allowed back in, surely he could see influx into and out of the bar and might have waited there a few minutes for his cousins.

Boston.com has the map in Cariis's post above in their online article, with a pin dropped near the Museum of Science? Those railroad tracks? There goes the idea of walking home via rail, and that's a longer walk yet from where he was. With no jacket.

Why? Are they looking for someone else?

i would assume they met each other at some that night. Maybe he could tell cops if he was buzzed, angry etc. Maybe how many drinks he saw him have while hanging with him
I would hope in an investigation , and you get a picture tagged taken the night the missing person became a missing person, you might want to track him down and talk with him.

He then maybe to lead LE ot other people that that intereacted with him hours beofre he vanished from earth!

fMaybe he could tell them he saw Zach argueing with another patron

maybe he could tell them if the cousins seem blasted.

maybe he could tell them who was hanging with cousins.

Maybe he could tell them how he paid for drinks food wateever, cash credit card , a tab on a credit card would sure be helpful in terms of how many drinks were purchased.

Maybe he saw him get bounded if that is what happened''

maybe he saw a bouncer interact with him

maybe he could tell them if it seemed like he was doing more than alcohol

....just a few questions that flew into my head!!

I know these words will fall on deaf ears, but I don't think we can apply much logic to the actions of a hypothermic person who had been drinking.

The video proves this is a tragic accident, and I think it's time to ease up on the "conspiracy" posts. The family is dealing with the recovery of their beloved son/cousin/etc's body and I don't think more fuel needs to be added to the fire, either here or on social media.

We may never know why incapacitated people are drawn to water, but time and again it happens. With the increases in security cameras at various businesses and public places, IMO we will soon have much proof that these are no more than tragic, perplexing accidents.

I would want to ask did he appear drunk
describe his mood
who did you see him interacting with
how did he pay for drinks if you got a round ith him
did he interact with bouncers
how did the cousins appear (buzz)
suspect any harder drugs

an arguement with another patron?

stuff like that

I'm still having trouble understanding which particular walkway he was on.

No worries you are not alone!!! Tired - but they said he "entered" the water off Nausa steet (spelling-- surprise! not it

but I think locals would know!

From all names i have heard thrown around at that street where it meets water seems like the best descriptor imo

I think they're just on the railroad bridge to scout out the water below. You can get a really good view looking down on the water. The river is tidal at that point so even if they know exactly where he entered the water, they don't know where his body might have been carried to. So if they're checking locations quite a distance from there, that's why.

(ETA: apparently they were also checking out gaps in the bridge.)

There are half a dozen bridges and walkways over the river; I think Googlemaps shows most of them though I thought there was a footbridge that isn't showing up. There are also a number of docks and boat landings where people can put in with shells, kayaks, small sailboats, etc. https://goo.gl/maps/4xxUnhBZU6E2

The place where they've been looking, variously identified as the old Spaulding Hospital, Nashua Street, Nashua Street parking, is where you get to if you keep walking past the TD Garden/North Station building. It's primarily a commercial and recreational area, so it's pretty empty late at night and not terribly well lit.

One thing about Boston is that it's out on a peninsula. No matter where you are, if you start walking and keep walking, odds are you will end up at water. The harbor, several rivers, several channels, ponds and reservoirs, lots of stuff to drown in.

I don't think he had the intention of going to the water. No, he wasn't terribly drunk, but he was almost certainly hypothermic.

When you're hypothermic, your brain slows down. Your judgement fades. It's common for hypothermic people to latch onto one idea and pursue it through hell and high water, or keep walking with no idea where they are. Then as your body temperature continues to drop, your fine muscle control starts to go. You get clumsy. Not much after that, your major muscles stop working and you can't even walk. (http://www.emedicinehealth.com/script/main/art.asp?articlekey=124962)

Alcohol consumption can make you lose heat more quickly.

Oh my my my does this shot fit in with any of the names this pier that bridge etc etc casue sh$t, that looks really easy to step into goodness me oh my!

I do see lighting
