Can someone tell me the name of the bridge in the pic? I know it's here somewhere, but I can't figure out which one it is. TXS

Found it, never mind. It is the Zakim Bridge.

The Zakim Bridge is the big one with the towers and wires in the background of the Nashua Street Park picture. The railroad bridge in the picture you quoted is the Charles River Bridge (https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charles_River_Bridge_(Commuter_Rail)).

Zakim Bridge. Decent article summing up the situation.

"We think where he went into the water, the commuter rail is in sight there"

I bet he thought he was gonna make that train. Poor Zach!

It's been mentioned before, but I think the use of the word "entered" is just to remain neutral and report the basic facts. If I was a family member or friend and an article said he had "fallen through a gap in the tracks" I would find it fairly horrifying to imagine his final moments. Not to mention those of us who like to pick apart every word might then start going on about liability or that poor maintenance killed him, for example.

I thought the same thing.
BBM. Very well worded lol!

Respectfully disagree, IMO, "Entered" leaves questions. Fell provides answers. Did entered answer any of the questions the public has wanted to kow.

THe only reason the word "entering" IMO struck me , is becasue we have vairables in this case (suicide, pass out from frozen, slip, ) Stating what is on the video specifcaly in this instance, matterns. A slip "looks different than a fall. Inabilty to walk steady is a different visual . But the visual and specifity of what is on the tape and being viewed adds much context IMO

Its not being nit picky, implications and inference, in this case matter.

This thread, would be enteirely different, if the release had said he fell, he slipped,he jumped, passed out. in this case-- it "informs." . If ones of our loved ones is dead becasue of a giant hole - would the conclusion by loved ones (that he would be alive if it were not for a gaping hole) is actually more painful and angering.

In America the stigma of suicide is rampent. "Entered", to me, IMO, sounds as if it was purposeful. I would think in this instance the implcation of suicide, might be more painful for the family system than he slipped to his death.

If an individual Is losing orientation becasue of hypotherma , although technicaaly trespassing, I doubt any LE person would be charging one with trespassing.

On the same hand if he was spraying paint and got found he would be charged with trespassing.

What time does the video show he 'entered' the water?

I dont think they said --again, would be helpful for sure - degree of imparment either cold or substance. Rule i out car invovlment

Did not mean to start a liabilty deal. Was repulsed when I saw hole. However the railroad IMO, is in for a l o n g haul if he fell in there.

If the railroad cannot explain how the injury occurred by producing facts which are, as a general rule, peculiarly within its knowledge, it is presumed to be negligent.

Such duty of maintenance shall include that portion of the public road lying between the track or tracks and for two feet beyond the ends of the cross ties on each side of such crossing."

........ the failure to protect the public from injury
caused by the hole, may be considered a breach of the railroad's duties.

This case continues to sadden me. I don't think the public needs to see the video, but LE and the family do. Did he walk to the water and jump in, or was he trying to get somewhere (who knows where) and slipped and fell accidentally?

When I look at the street where the Bell in Hand is, I could see suddenly not knowing where the front door was, except according to the bar people were coming and going during that time. If he felt he wasn't allowed back in, surely he could see influx into and out of the bar and might have waited there a few minutes for his cousins.

I could see suddenly not knowing where the front

oh my gosh me too!

It's a railroad bridge. There's no possibility of car involvement.

Unless maybe one of those railroad vehicles modified to run on tracks, I suppose.

The guy in the article you sited was a rr employee. He was, legally, on the tracks.
If Zach was walking on the tracks...he didn't belong there.
There could have been a ten foot hole and godzilla pushing him in.
He was trespassing. That, in itself, is a crime.

Notice how, in many MSM stories about Zach suicide is mentioned as a concern/possiblity

Drowning accounts for less than 2% of all suicide methods in the US.

Those close to him refused to believe he would commit suicide.

Someone no one would ever expect to attempt suicide

intentional suicides

Most cases involved alcohol or drugs, while others were suicides or ...

while some were accidental drownings or suicides,

I don't know if it's important or not, or at this point, but ... I wonder if it took him between 10-30 minutes to walk from the Public Market to that bridge/track area, and the video shows him entering the water around/by 2:30am? Or, if he went somewhere else first after The Public market, or did something else first, then walked up to the bridge/track area, and entered the water at a much later time - say ... 3:30am, 5am, etc.?

I guess it's possible to lose track of time, and have your judgment impaired by alcohol, or other related things, or the cold. But there are a few missing pieces. Did he get to North Station, discover there were no more trains, and then decided to walk the track somewhere? Like up to the next stop right out of town and have someone pick him up there? Was he maybe calling someone from the Public Market to come pick him up? Still, if you determined the trains weren't running, I just have a hard time believing that you'd walk around or down from the TD Garden and access what was probably a restricted access area to ... ? ... walk the tracks? There must be some small bit of common sense left where you say to yourself, 'Man, wait, why in the world would I go up here. There is nothing up here. Forget it'.

I'm not disputing he did this and entered or fell into the water if that is in fact what the video shows. I'm just saying that I'm having an extremely hard time, even if drunk or cold thinking that you'd ever make the decision that it's a good idea to go up there and walk. It just doesn't make sense. Hence my asking about the timing.

This is so horrible. That gap looks terrifying.

I have a couple of questions. I hope they dont seem trite. That's not my intent.

Do we know if the coats were checked at Bell in Hand or at the table ? I ask bc if he went to smoke and didn't go to get a checked coat before going outside, I can understand that - to go out for a quick smoke. That also indicates, imo, intent to return/go back in.
He even texted his cousin that he couldn't get back in. I cant recall the exact wording that was given. That is pretty huge to me, as is the, "Let's leave" message from him to the cousin. Is there any way to check snapchat messages or are the literally irretrievable? Do we know if it was not a regular text? (I thought I read here snapchat and that those disappear, but didnt' know if they can be found later somehow.)

Also, did it turn bitterly cold suddenly in the late hours? Or was the whole night super cold? What time did they arrive at the Bell in Hand? Iow, did he already know it was super cold? (bc it was super cold when they got there.)

My point is that if he had been able to get back in or thought he was permitted to return, I doubt he would have been on the bridge/train tracks. He would have been with the cousins and not alone in the cold. I just cant see a person standing in that kind of cold with no coat choosing to stay outside if they could have come back in.... even if he didn't go back to the table, just waiting by the door inside. IDK. It's just so sad.

I haven't seen any of the videos/photo links. Only what's posted here, so maybe I missed something.

And what the heck happened in the Bell & Hand that would cause him to leave his party/relatives and want to go to the train and go home to Leominster (if that was what he was even trying to do)? I assume someone interviewed his party/relatives and asked if that was the plan - for him to try and get back home that Friday night? Can't believe a 22 year old partying with cousins or whomever, would be planning to ... not stay the night in South Boston. But maybe that was the plan, and he ... missed his train by nearly 2 hours? That does not sound right. Or it sounds like something happened inside the Bell in Hand to make him want to change his plans and instead of staying out there, or partying in Boston, or overnight in South Boston, he ... headed AWAY. Just strange. There has to be more to explain that.

I love language. I think words are very important. They can be used to heal, to harm, to provoke, to empathize, deceive to enlighten ...

However there can be a tendency for some of us to get bogged down in the minutiae and lose the plot.

Sometimes a cigar really is just a cigar.

"In America the stigma of suicide is rampant snip
"I would think in this instance the implications of suicide might be more painful for the family system than if he fell to his death".

Ironic...since that painful "implication" had a bit of a cult following on this thread.

Remind me, to never to express grief if some I love dies. If something ever happened to me shortly there after, I wouldn't want people to assume I must have been suicidal.

Why Zha? Asking as I can envision with path he was on, or maybe we wouldn't know that without seeing video. No curb, rail, anything? I don't know -- if you slip, wouldn't you just fall on your rear?

Well, you'd think. But I've known grown men to go up and over staircase banisters and fall down 40 feet after slipping in a puddle of water...or so he says. I don't believe it, but that's what he says...not maybe that he was sliding down a railing and fell...ANY-HOO.

Back to Zach.

by car involvment I was thinking by the timehe came into view on cam if it was real quick a car would have to be involved like walk vs drive time! hi car !!

The bell in hand has a coat check, not sure if Zach used it. I think it's like $2.00 fee...

I have been wondering the same as you...
It was pretty darn cold by the time they got to the Bell at 10pm, but it did seem to me, to drop several degrees quickly in the early am.

I dearly hope he was just too late get to in, and not "unelcomed". Have to wonder why he would wait & freeze if could just re-enter.

You would be a great one to ask! I just cant help but feeling that for a parent, if it turns out the hole was the deal, for a parent it would be if the hole was not there my child might still be with us.

Which in turn down the road I would thing would result in rage that is what i was referring to when it comes down to trying to figure out who is responsible.

IMO, in any context anyone would "Beleive" that gaping holes in the structure where tons of trains are zooming by daily is acceptable and in context worthy of being dismissed . That is silly IMO.

And yes if that is what happened IMO the RR is totally responsible. Tresspassiing or not, if that is what happened , the hole killed him , not his tresspassing

America is lawsuit crazy !
