Yes, but with basically the whole town looking for it? I don't think it would be that easy to hide, unless it was pre-planned and they already had a good hiding place somewhere. So sad![]()
If the Smiths' sighting was really Gerry, that means he hid her somewhere close at first, within walking distance. Wouldn't the LE have checked every possible place around there?
Bringing forward for anyone who missed it. :moo:For what it's worth, the fact that the McCann's may come across as cold, suspicious, narcissistic, whatever - does not mean that they are guilty. There seems to be spite towards them because they are wealthy. I don't know why that's even relevant.
There's no "rule book" on how to act when your child goes missing. Some parents come across as hysterical, some come across as cold and uncaring - perhaps they have shut down emotionally from the trauma. I don't judge them, because I don't know what it's like and I pray that I never will.
If the McCanns are guilty then SY have a strange way of going about the case. From the Kiesha Weippart case in Oz where the mother was guilty, the police interrogated her and kept her under surveillance. They bugged the house too. They certainly didn't waste time going on national TV with sketches and appeal for information. They did appeal for information very early in the case, until the mother became defensive in the interrogations.
Why waste resources trying to track these people down, if the real culprits are right in front of them. I doubt SY are that stupid.
And why would the McCanns put themselves through this again, when the hype had died down and they had a chance to get on with their lives. Do they enjoy this sort of attention? Do they long to be in jail?
We are going to continue with one thread for awhile. It's a lot easier to manage since we don't have one assigned moderator for this area.
The snark factor has been pretty high in Madeleine's forum lately. Start treating each other with respect or you might find yourself on the outside looking in.
I don't like the pedophilia aspect of this case, especially as it surrounds Payne who is extremely close to Gerry. Payne who spoke of the "pact" and had the early inconsistent/falsified visit with Kate and the children at (gulp) bathtime.
Pedophilia gives motive - someone went too far, Madeleine died.
It is yet another haunting echo of Jonbenet...except they made the mistake of not "losing" the body.
The only problem with this theory is, I don't want to believe it...which makes me no different to 99% of the population of the UK I suppose.
We just can't believe something so horrible could be at the centre of this mystery.
What I want to know is, what did the abductor do in the room for 45 minutes or more if he had been there to move the door when Gerry checked and then slammed the door when Kate came back.
Maybe he or she sat there quietly choosing a child.
Maybe he or she heard one of the children tossing
around in bed and waited til they stopped to leave.
We have only guesses. We won't know until a perp comes forward....if then. :moo:

for an intruder to enter in the door, due to the nature of the lock there would have been evidence of disruption.
regarding the window: the only fingerprints on the window were from kate, and the fingerprints indicated she was OPENING, not closing the window. this is inconsistent with her saying that the window was open when she entered the room madeleine was missing.
also it would have been impossible for an intruder to get madeleine out of the window without leaving a trace on the bed or window.
(modsnip)
<modsnip>the cadaver dogs, who have never been wrong in over 200 cases smelled a cadaver in the cabinet, behind the sofa, on kate's clothes and on madeleine's toy. they were forced to look at a few other apartments but smelled nothing there.
out of 7 cars the dogs were exposed to, they only smelled the cadaver scent in one of them---the mccann's rented car. explain that.AND all of this was videotaped. gerry mccann claims that the dogs smelling the cadaver scent
'doesn't mean anything!'
kate refused to answer questions at first----why would an innocent mother of a missing child refuse to answer questions unless she has something to hide?????
<modsnip>
He/she had a lot of nerve sitting quietly through all those people going in and out.
I hope the twins were checked for signs of sexual abuse because that's about the only thing I can think of that an abductor might linger for while knowing that someone will pop through the door any minute now.
Bringing forward for anyone who missed it. :moo:
John Couey kidnapped Jessica Lunsford from HER BED ROOM and left NO EVIDENCE.
Haleigh Cummings disappeared from her home. No unfamiliar evidence...IIRC.
I'm surprised that in the early days they didn't focus more carefully on the sighting of the man carrying the child towards the beach. Why on earth would you carry a sleeping child to the beach at 10pm? Shouldn't that have stood out as suspicious?
Why would there be any evidence if a stranger took less than five minutes to enter an apartment that many people have probably already been in? There wouldn't even have been fingerprints if they had used a handkerchief or something for opening doors. If they were there any longer I still don't see what some people think should have been found to prove to them that someone had abducted the child.
When I watched Crimewatch I thought Kate, in particular, had aged more than what you would have expected for someone her age. I could see the stress of it all in her face. I also agree that if they had really done something to harm their daughter they would have dropped all this years ago. I personally think that the only thing that all those involved might collude with to cover something up is that they didn't really check on the children as often as claimed, because they knew it wouldn't look good.
