Agreed, that there should be no inequality with regards to investigating such crimes and it doesn't seem fair that some cases seem to get more fuss than others. To be fair, though, if the McCanns are innocent with regards to their daughter's disappearance then you can't really blame them for using all the power they have to find out what happened. I think your friend will probably understand that too.

I believe that if they are innocent, the first thing to do would be cooperate with the original investigation.

They never did. From literally the first hour they were hostile and critical of the PJ and it only worsened.

Now all of England thinks the PJ is corrupt, criminal and incompetent.

Actually an official in the area of Greece where the child was living said in the history of the Romas there has NEVER been a known case of one doing that EVER. Selling their own children for private adoption YES when they cant feed all their children, but never buying one to look after.

What about being paid to take in a child though? I suppose that's another possibility.

Yes, at least one, but maybe more. I have a feeling more, b/c of all the different stories about who did what check and what exactly went down that day and that night. If they didnt' know, why would they lie?

So even with one....that means we can actually get some information.

But they don't know if it's one or three or five or what. What they have to do is start preparing their information to eventually be able to bring charges for concealment of a body, or whatever the charge is for helping somone cover up something and dispose of the body. With possible charges being brought against them, I think that at least one will break. When they originally came up with this abduction theory, they didn't think they would be figured out. They thought they were helping friends, or perhaps they were covering their own bu*** for not being with their own kids. Whatever the reason, it's past and gone now. Having charges brought against them would make them talk, IMO, esp. the weaker ones, and not suggesting the women would be weaker, but I believe the women would speak before the men. Maybe instead of weaker I should say "normal." After all, Madeleine was a child.

aa9511, I interpreted "poor family" as poor in spirit, meaning the chief takes pity on them because they don't know if their daughter is alive or dead. Maybe it's a colloquialism but that usage of "poor" is really common where I live and it may be applied to the richest people in my county.

Seriously. I started off thinking this was some games being played by SY to get the truth from the McCann's, but now I am starting to believe that SY really are a bunch of bufoons.

Just now tracking down the "suspect" carrying his own child? Just now checking phone records? Spewing sympathy for two people that most of the rest of the world has figured out, at the very least, know exactly what happened that night and where their daughters body ended up?
Really? It's the Boulder DA's office circa 1997 all over again. Either too stupid or too afraid to tell the truth.

I give up. Judging from the number of parents (or stepparent in one well known American case) out there that have obviously gotten away with either deliberately or "accidently" disposing of their children, I call this as an epidemic, and one I am sick to death of watching.

LE agencies both here in the US and England need to start growing some.

Some sit on the fence and refuse to go either way but most go for a McCann guilty verdict.
Being 100% honest I cannot recall hearing anyone saying they are innocent!
Kate McCann, I remember her saying in a recent interview that she believed no one in the UK at least ever indicated there was any foul play.
The McCann's are convinced they have painted a picture of total innocence to the world at large. They have a totally narcissistic and sometimes bordering sociopathic attitude and think they are bullet proof.
just reminds me of the attitudes of Brady and Hindley.

I see just the opposite with people I talk to, with most people believing the family played no part. I'd like to give them the benefit of the doubt, and I'll be happy if they prove us all wrong and she is found, but I doubt it somehow.

Thanks Boesp....I was talking more of the last part, saying they live in torture because they don't know whether she's alive or not....when IMO they know she's dead. It just comes across like he doesn't know anything about the case.

I just sometimes wonder what their life is like behind closed doors. I mean, what could their relationship be like? I can't imagine carrying around this weight on your shoulders, deceiving people day in and day out (and that's not even mentioning whatever happened in 5A). It just sickens me.

My guess, the blood was on the hands of whoever placed her in the trunk... That person would have presumably handled the keys and would have been wearing Kate's clothing IMO
