The McCanns themselves told this to the PJ...They did not try to hide it....And at no point did they lie about it.
It was no coincidence that this part of their statement was released at the same time they were trying to help get the Amber alert system introduced into Europe.

And it doesn't always have to be a lie to be a "smear"...all depends how and why it's used.
The same way that politicians hold back information they have and then release it at a time that will cause the most damage!!
It worked for the PJ......and got the reaction they were looking for!!

An attempt to bring in the Amber alert failed two years ago. If with the McCanns help it gets through this time..great. It's desperately needed.

If they had any shame they would have hidden it! To think that their little girl asked them why they didn't come when she was crying & they went & did the same thing to her the following evening is so despicable that if it was me, I certainly wouldn't be admitting it to anyone!
They didn't have to tell this to PJ, it served no purpose so If they did, I agree with Beowulf in Colomons post below they sure had a reason!

I think it worked for the McCanns not PJ. The whole world knows how negligent they were so what's another confirmation of that - better that for them than the world thinking that the truth may be about to come out!

Barnaby you are entitled to believe what you choose.
To me it's important that the McCanns didn't lie even when the truth would be damaging !!! That makes me believe they told the whole truth. :)

I think Beowulf has a wild imagination.
And I will not buy into the cruel rants from very questionable bloggers.

Thats my choice!!:)

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/main.jhtml?xml=/news/2008/04/15/nmaddy115.xml

"The PJ want to make it clear that it is entirely false that the contents of this report included material from the inquiry which is covered by (the law of) secrecy of justice.
"On the other hand, the Policia Judiciaria regrets the baseless intervention of the spokesman above all at a moment when significant moves were being made in the investigation."
******
Mr Mitchell, who accompanied the McCanns to Belgium last week, was defiant about his earlier remarks.
"I'm not retracting a word of what I said," he said. "The Portuguese police have yet to explain how these statements came to be leaked.
"The material was contained in confidential documents as part of the police file, which is covered by the secrecy of justice laws.
******

Very interesting!!!...Are the Pj denying they "leaked" the information from the McCanns statement:waitasec: ...Or....are they just denying that the information "leaked" was actually covered by their secrecy laws..... Mmmmm:waitasec:

It sounds like they did "leak" it. I guess some habits are hard to break!!!
And how very convenient now to claim it wasn't covered by their secrecy laws.

What in the world are you talking about?

The PJ said this:
The PJ insisted it was "entirely false" that they had released any information about the case. The force's intervention came as the officer leading the inquiry, Paulo Rebelo, met the public prosecutor to discuss the case.

If you reread the PJ statement C A R E F U L L Y, and S L O W L Y, they state that info in the report...(referencing the reports that were broadcast on Spanish TV) did NOT include ANY material from their inquiry, (of the McCanns), which IS protected by the privacy laws.
The couple's statements - which were broadcast on Spanish television and repeated around the world - went into detail about how they had left Madeleine alone and crying the night before she disappeared.
This doesn't make them guilty of leaking as you state, what they (the PJ), are saying is the info reported on TV didn't come from them.

Some people read between the lines, you seem to add your own.

If you read the article again, either slowly or carefully, :) you will see the PJ go on to clarify their statement.
********
From the article.....
"The PJ want to make it clear that it is entirely false that the contents of this report included materiel from the enquiry which is covered (the law of) secrecy of justice.
**************
They did not deny knowledge of the report.....only said it is false that it included material...(included doesn't mean all).....covered by the secrecy laws!!

And I think we all know by now it's been taken from the McCanns official statements.

April I agree  This is a posting from another poster/blogger right? An opinion like everyone elses? So I give it no more credence than I would any other posters opinion.

And I think I know by now it's been taken from the McCanns mouths and spread by Clarence Mitchell.

Who is this "WE ALL" you talk about? Maybe you should make it a habit of not including all of us when speaking for yourself.

Scroll down to Katherine's post...

All Roads Lead to Spain

veeeery interesting

Very interesting indeed, I thought this long ago when there were so many Spanish connections & it was also said that Clara Torres is a doctor who worked in Amsterdam when Gerry was there!
Strange that Charlotte Pennington, the nanny, lived in New Zealand - when Gerry was there!
Many, many "coincidences" in this case!

Does anyone know yet what the outcome of the Spanish News at noon (their time) was? I'm waiting to hear, but so far I can't find any articles.

Thanks,

Salem

Portuguese police accuse McCanns' spokesman Clarence Mitchell of 'lying through his teeth'

Last updated at 18:52pm on 15.04.08

In an astonishing attack today Portuguese police union chief Carlos Anjos told respected Portuguese daily Jornal de Noticias: "Mr Mitchell wants to discredit the Policia Judiciaria and invent excuses so the McCanns do not come to Portugal to participate in the reconstruction of the night she disappeared.

I read this from the same link, a review from one of the posters that caught my eye.

Clarence Mitchell has to do something in order to be seen to earn his £70k per year! Several other parties were/are in possession of the McCanns' statements to the police, including, one assumes, the McCanns themselves and Clarence Mitchell himself and the Spanish detective agency the McCanns hired.
The revelation made is further proof that the McCanns acted irresponsibly as parents. They should be charged with child neglect.
The McCanns' web site says they were dining "50 yards" from the 3 kiddies they left alone, but it has been proven that it is a 131 yard WALK (120 metres). More spin from the McCanns!

Thanks Barnaby - I hope there is news soon also. 12 O'Clock in Spain was a long time ago already! Darn!

We still don't know why the McCanns revealed what Maddie allegedly said.

It could be that they were confronted with the report made by Mrs. Fenn, and they came clean only after being confronted with that fact.

Admitting you did something stupid once, and then chose to do it again, is not indicative of any admirable character trait. At times, it can even be a sign of arrogance or, for lack of better word, cluelessness as to how your actions will be perceived by others.

We do not know for sure on any other issue (or even this one) if the McCanns were telling the truth. Maddie isn't here to verify what her parents said, sadly.

You can't infer that because the McCanns tell one thing that may seem negative, they must therefore be telling the truth in all other things.

I don't care where the statements came from. This information of Maddie being left the night before and crying for her parents was released a long long time ago. Clearly, the McCanns through there spokesperson are using it as an excuse for a reason not to return to portugal. I find this not only rather incriminating but down right depolrable. The police want to do something (a reconstruction) to try and find their missing child and they will not be participating????

Not just about avoiding the reconstruction, but taking the heat off Tanner's comment that she never left the Tapas until Kate raised the alarm. After last Tuesday, I have not seen a word about it...... I think that is very interesting, considering JT was all over the place with the morphing man and when and where she saw him.

Maybe it was not flattering to the McCanns, but it appears it has served a couple of different purposes.

Also, the fact that it was released in Spain and not in Portugal, is interesting. I'm betting it did come from Metodo 3. The Bad Nacho guy apparently said that CMitchell was not the source of the leak..... Sorry I didn't copy the link.

I note that Metodo have not been absolved!
Nor have the PJ Barnaby.
I doubt Nacho Abed felt it neccesary to mention Metodo. It's only bloggers that have predictably dragged their name into this.
