Can you imagine what it would have been like for those very young children, crying for their parents and no one coming?

That is a traumatic experience for any child, to be left alone, particularly in a place away from home.

Why didn't the McCanns recognize how traumatic this was for their children, and act accordingly?

More questions: Did the McCanns really both agree willingly to leave the children again? Did one of them disagree but go along with their spouse? Did Madeleine say anything about the night before, provoking a response from that stressed out parent?

Why, oh why, would would any educated parent with choices/resources do that to their children more than once?

Kate McCann admitted they left their daughter Madeleine alone and crying in their holiday apartment on the night before she disappeared, it has been reported.
The accusations stem from leaked statements apparently given by the couple to police in the immediate aftermath of the incident in May last year.

I never said the Portuguese tabloids were "a source of accurate information".

I said "they are better sources of accurate information than any other media source at this time".

The American media is completely silent and "out of the loop" and the British media seems to be "muzzled".

And Salem, I agree.....when you pull it all together, exactly.

Better sources of leaks would be more accurate.IMO
As for the British media being muzzled....They just payed out an awful lot of money because they "lied."

It would have saved them a lot of money if they had been muzzled!!

Forgot all that has gone before. This is a huge, huge, train on the tracks situation.

The McCanns admitted that the latest police "leaks" about them leaving Madeleine and the twins alone the night before she disappeared, is true.

A "friend of the family" (there's that unnamed source again, which the McCanns do not seem to mind if it is for and not against them) says this will bring out the vultures. I say, bring on the vultures,.

Come up with a good explanation for why the McCanns chose to leave their children alone, knowing that the children awoke the night before and cried for their parents,

Explain why this shouldn't impact our judgment of the McCanns' thought processes, and why we should assume that this was a one-time freakish deal for their decisions regarding their children, rather than a usual habit of behavior from two well-educated, successful doctors.

And along with that unbelievable decision, the McCanns show no remorse of action, saying in previous interviews they would do the same thing again if they could.

Clarence Mitchell is good at his job, but he can't do miracles, and it would take a miracle to justify or explain this.

No way the timing of this leak being a coincidence!!! A very clear smear campaign from the PJ....Portuguese secrecy laws are a total nonsence. IMO

How anyone can try to rationalize the McCanns behavior in light of this latest revelation, is beyond me.

What is wrong with these two supposedly educated parents????? Who takes their child to a foreign country and leaves them alone, knowing they were scared and crying for them? Honestly, it's beyond comprehension to me how selfish Gerry and Kate are.

Yoo-who...Social Services. Who's monitoring the McCanns as they parent the twins? Parents who would admit to that degree of callousness shouldn't be left alone with babies.

To me, it gets down to one of two scenarios - the McCanns are absolutely heartless jerks who left Maddie and the twins alone, knowing they would be upset or they drugged em up the second night to avoid another "scene".

How could you leave a three year old, who you've described as somewhat of a handful alone, knowing she'd be so upset? That would be tantamount to child neglect because who's to say she wouldn't get so desperate to find Mommy and Daddy that she'd leave the flat and go searching???

For this reason, I truly believe there's a possibility the McCanns drugged their children that night.

Ummmmm, excuse me, but the article we are reading is from the DAILY MAIL - a BRITISH paper. Excuse my shouting, but I don't get how this is a Portugese smear.

These parents are shameless. They admit they knew their children were crying and left them anyway. First, I could not get past the fact that these were DOCTORS who must have had first hand knowledge of the pitfalls of leaving such young children alone and NOW..... they admit they knew the children were upset and left them anyway.

I was trying to figure out why I was so upset by this news. After all I had read about Mrs. Fenn and I believed Mrs. Fenn, so what's the problem. The problem is that even though I know this and I did believe Mrs. Fenn, I still had some small measure of hope that the McCanns just didn't realize their children's distress. Having them admit it smashes that hope to smitherines. So, I guess I should just prepare myself to have all remaining hope smashed......

So now the concern is that the "leak" was calculated to cast a shadow on their trip to promote an idea that they had no hand in, in the beginning, WHEN, in fact, they should have stayed home anyway to be sure they were available in case LE needed to talk to them. OHHHHHH, poor babies, my heart just bleeds for them, their little trip was spoiled, was it:boohoo: Too Bad, Soo Sad.

And what about Maddie? They say all the time they believe she is still alive....... well then, what about her? If she is still alive, what about her hell? Such doting, loving parents. Can't even make themselves available for a couple of days. They knew, well in advance when the PJ would be in England. Such lovely timing.

Okay - I think I'm done now, but I can't even tell you how much my heart hurts for this poor baby.

April, have you even thought for one minute that this leak could really be the truth and not a smear, as you put it?

The thought of that poor, sweet little girl, crying in vain for her mommy, just breaks my heart. If that were me, it would haunt me for the rest of my life.

Pickle, I think you missunderstood my post. I wasn't denying the truth of it. This is in the McCanns statement because they were open and honest about what happened!! They didn't try to keep it a secret even though they could have!!!

Why do you think the PJ chose to leak this now?..out of context!!! At a time when the McCanns are in Brussels trying to urge politicians to back a Europe-wide missing child alert scheme.
This scheme failed when there was an attempt to bring it in two years ago because it didn't get enough votes then.

Smear is the right word!!
Is there any wonder the McCanns don't trust the PJ :waitasec:

teacherbees I didn't try to justify the McCanns leaving their children and wouldn't have done it myself as I have said many times.:waitasec:
It's a far cry from believing because they chose to do their own baby listening that they are capable of killing their child.
I don't believe that..And we have seen no evidence to support it.
Just smears and leaks from a PJ that doesn't appear to have a clue.

Salem the leaks were from the McCanns offficial police statement so could only have come from within the PJ.

I believe the McCanns told about the "why didn't you come for us" crying the night before because they were confronted with it--either from Mrs. Fenn's account or someone else.

Or they were simply asked if leaving the children alone was the usual routine during their vacation, etc., etc.

Not for one minute.

They are angry because this makes them look bad as parents--but what they did--repeatedly--IS a bad act by parents.

It's not a smear, it just is what it is.

And once again, they have a "family friend" and Clarence Mitchell trying to elicit sympathy for them via statements about how horrible this is for the McCanns.

How could Kate ever say after May 3, in defense of their actions, "It felt so safe?" How could it ever feel safe to know that your children were crying for you one night so you left them again?

You know what really bothers me about this latest "news"? It is the fact that the McCanns were, at the moment of it's release, campaigning for a EU/UK system to help missing children. In my eyes, they were completely responsible for their own child being missing and therefore, had no business playing spokesperson. To me it appears to be the ultimate arrogance. If they knew all along that they basically abused their own children and they could sit up there on that stage in Brussels in front of God and everyone, well then, they are capable of concealing a horrific crime and sitting down for a Tapas dinner afterwards. And yes, I do think it is abuse when you know that your child was scared and crying and you choose to leave them in the exact same situation only hours after your 3 year old asked you why you did it.

I do not care how this revelation got out, I am glad it is out! People need to open up their eyes and see these (so called) parents for what they truly are.

I also agree that it cannot be labeled a smear when it is the truth! If the PJ had anything to do with it I would be surprised. It is more likely that the Portuguese press had this information and decided to release it. Or maybe....just maybe, one of the T7 spilled their guts and the leak came from LE in the UK. And isn't it amazing how the tabs in the UK jumped on this story? It really looks like the gloves may be off now.

I for one want to know how anyone can be SO SURE this new info was a leak from the PJ. Give me a break. Many people had this information....and many people are greedy and love making money off of poor Madeleine. It wouldn't surprise me if Mitchell leaked it for a few extra bucks. Well said Salem, I think this latest news should finally put paid to anyone who continues to defend what they did. Their actions were truly indefensible!
This latest admission makes me really think that they did drug the children that night so there would be no crying & hence we may have the scenario for Madeleine's death!
