This is not directly on topic, but is related.

Recently New Yorker ran a (very long) investigative piece into the use of giant, multi storey underground cold-war bunkers in Germany and Holland for hosting of illegal dark web activities by an eccentric cyber criminal. The scale of the cybercrime infrastructure was unlike anything seen before and its traffic and severs were found to host illicit activities linked to Wall Street, global drug trade, child and more - the darkest of the dark. This guy was allowed to operate the hosting of servers and encrypted phone tech that facilitated deeply nefarious business activities at scale. Other things also went on at the bunker, much remains unknown.

Worth a read as education about the landscape surrounding the types of criminal behaviours this case alludes to, when you have a spare hour! There's also an audio option if you want to listen while you cook your dinner....

To add, this 2017 sighting is the only sighting of the VW since 2007/8, other than when it was impounded by LE in Borrocal, Portugal, by this time it had cartoons drawn on it.

Slight correction: In this weeks Sexta9 video the VW was also mentioned as sighted in the same Algarve town as the 100k robbery in 2007.
This sighting of MM and the VW was also in 2017. Same year CB is said to have been at the Hanover search site.
If CB was involved in this latest sighting of MM at all then it would also have to have been in the first half of 2017 because he was imprisoned from June 2017

Spot B however does not match the spot in the photograph.
There should be many trees, very high trees at spot B.

First Pic - Prison van used by judicial authorities. If an inmate is transported from or to courts or another prison.

Second Pic - Prison van used bei L.E., if an inmate is transported by the police. Due to the fact, that L.E. is running that operation it is very likely, that they picked up an inmate from prison to the site. In one of the many videos, i saw such a van with small windows on the site. So police may have transported an inmate due to the investigations and took him back to prison.

To the question of how he could afford to rent places or move about apart from his sporadic odd jobs and criminal activities, it sounds like he had a lot of connections both criminal and non criminal. On the criminal side, I'd be very surprised if he's acted alone on any major activity without some kind of back up. JMO

From Martin Brunt, reporting live on Sky News, the holes dug yesterday are now being filled in and the waiting game is on to see if investigators have found anything. The search continues today.

DLK, everything I've read so far says car was in Portugal on May 4, 2007. German LE says it. I can't recall any such discussion, so I'd like to have a reliable source for such info by German LE.

B.... two tents, a generator, and a van, mysteriously in the middle of a field.
C.... memorial, which marks the general area where there was in WW2 the slave labour camp and the entrance to the asphalt mine which was being adapted for industrial purposes .
A to B is about 360m. A to C is about 1400m.

The black van, Ted? I don't think that's a prison van as it has side windows on rear part. Prison vans don't.
