Maybe that is a question best directed to the then coordinator of the case GA who might be expected to know what was happening on his watch.

Incidentally GA is the main promotor of CB's lack of culpability, which suggests he must have something substantial to back his opinion up, don't you think? My opinion.
Maybe he does, maybe he doesn't,he was removed six months in so the spotlight then went away from the three arguidos so who was looked at after that, but it doesn't explain how CB was missed by three investigative forces until an ex mate raised a flag.

I think we can't really discuss GA's opinion here without posts disappearing into the ether. I expect he just still thinks what he thought in Sept 2007, and he has every right to continue doing that if Germany isn't ever going to confirm HCW's huge confidence with a MM-related charge or charges. GA has the right to be incredulous.

If we ever get to the bottom of it and find out what really happened and JT’s sighting at 9:15pm is true, I will genuinely eat my hat… I’ll even make it a sombrero!

I think Smithman is a much better sighting and the fact that no one has ever come forward adds weight to it. But, in an abduction by a stranger crime, it only works in an opportunistic scenario. This seems inconsistent to me with other aspects of the case file - it is a disappearance.

If it was an abduction, it feels planned and it that case, someone abducting MM and carrying her for at least 4-5 minutes seems unlikely.

I completely agree with you on the weirdness of the early part of the investigation.
There are three possibilities, Tannerman was the abductor, Smithman was, or another unseen was, what are the odds on an unseen when two random guys were carrying children around.Smithman was carrying a child fitting a description close to that of Madeleine according to Redwood, no other was.

As a very new member I have to comment that the only posts I have seen "disappearing into the ether" are those which are off topic or replies to "disappeared" off topic posts.
All part of the learning curve.

They knocked on a door they thought he might be living at once? Then nobody instructed the foot soldiers to knock on it again. Not exactly "an investigation into him" is it?

The only reason the courts went looking for him, most likely at BP's scrapyard, was for non payment of the fines he received for the diesel theft and telling the judge to f*ck off. GA uses this to say that CB was investigated in the early days...bla bla bla!

If that's the case, why was it reported that CB's photo was shown to OC staff within days ?
Unless that is media make-up and isn't what happened.

You might be new to the forum but you're not new to the case. Basil Fawlty's famous words apply I think: "Don't mention the..."

(I'm not criticising the mods. If they didn't intervene now and then it would likely soon degenerate into old battles here, and inevitably culminate in termination, which would be a shame)

Was it Nick Pisa who said that?

OK. So the allegedly understaffed and overworked police took time off from investigating burglars and paedophiles at the inception of a missing child case, to chase up on fine defaulters.

Yes I can see why some might think that was a matter of urgency.

SuperdadV8

Where has he gone?

I miss his posts.
I'm still here and going to keep on posting, if there is something essential to post. Still waiting for the decision on the prosecutors appeal, wether the trial against C.B. will start at the court in Braunschweig, or the court in Magdeburg....

Jane Tanner’s sighting was verified by the Met. Do you want hot chili sauce with that sombrero?

verified by police is not the same as sworn to under oath.

Who is supposed to be swearing under oath and under what possible circumstances?

Anyway, verified by the police hold more weight than a witness swearing under oath doesn’t it?

Loose ends:

@Janosch

Have you seen original statements from JM or JW that state the hair colour of the woman in purple/plum?

This summary of an Express article refers to ‘long dark swept back hair’ but LT is blonde.

Has anyone ever seen a photo of SKT (husband of alleged woman in purple)? Or the garage man, BP?

First of all, my involvement with the "woman in purple":

I was asked from the Express if I had knowledge of people related to Bulgaria in the PJ files. The journalists were saying that the "woman in purple" was related to Bulgaria. But I only was searching for a woman with links to Bulgaria.

I answered:

“I have been combing through all the police files trying to identify who the woman in purple could be. It has been widely reported that Yard officers are in Bulgaria. Examining all the known statements it seems highly likely the police are seeking the Ts as they are the only known people with a clear link to Bulgaria."

The rest of the press said that I had discovered the woman in purple! And then the press said otherwise :)

Original source: Scotland Yard hunts waitress believed to be the 'woman in purple'

Of course LT was not the woman in purple. I always think she may be JT, and later maybe NF. Only my opinions.

Anyway, verified by the police hold more weight than a witness swearing under oath doesn’t it?

In our minds or in the eyes of the legal system with jurisdiction? In a future possible jury's minds or what?

Because a non-LE witness under oath often holds sway over a police report. An officer taking the stand under oath with personal knowledge of the evidence is going to hold way more weight than a police report or even an affidavit.

At any rate, I don't know Portugal's legal system enough to comment but in the US, a witness under oath holds more weight at trial than a police report. IMO.

JW confirmed that he saw JT wearing purple outside the apartments. Purple/plum/raspberry clothing & swept-back hair is very JT.

Presumably this is the same area as the lamp post where JM saw her woman in purple.

I suspect NF would have worn black had she been out criming!
