If CB’s motivation was dark web uploads, he would have had to have been a very early adopter, Tor was released in 2002. Even the term “Dark Web” wasn’t in use until 2009.

Would a German drifter living in the Algarve have the understanding, means and technology to be able to access the dark web?

I know MT said he was on the dark net but I wonder what he meant.

Nuclear DNA can be recovered from a rooted hair, while only mitochondrial DNA cn be recovered from a rootless hair. Nuclear DNA identifies individuals, mitochondrial DNA only identifies groups of people. Therefore the hair must have been rooted to give an exact match to CB.

Probably the hair found still had its root attached and I assume all the appropriate storage and evidential protocols put in place by the scientific PJ which enabled it to assist in the cold case many years down the line.

Indeed one wonders did they actually hand over the hair or the results of their tests on the hair.

I think CB's conviction for the possession of images of the type for which he merited that criminal conviction rather negates too much wondering about his motivation.
I think investigators probably don't need to speculate too much on his activities as we do - I think they know quite a bit of them.

Whatever the "dark web" might have been known as in the past, its adherents have always populated the underbelly of the internet in one shape or other of bestial form. And they will continue to do so.

We don’t know exactly what investigators know but we know there is no intention to charge CB with CSA images or similar at the moment.

It really doesn’t matter what other people do or have done on the dark web, it’s irrelevant to this forum. My post was about the likelihood of CB creating footage in 2004 for the online bartering system used on the dark web - given he was living in a ramshackle house in the Algarve when the technology was in its infancy, I think it’s unlikely.

So the next question would be, at what point was CB's DNA collected for comparison, it's all very well saying he should have been caught earlier but unless the P J had his DNA on a data base then no link would have been found, does the law in Portugal for example allow for the collection and storage of DNA from a different nationality?

I think we have the mental image of Eurika! a single pubic hair! Butt there was a total of sixteen only two of which enabled a positive result.

I would suggest these were the only two with roots still attached.

CB has convictions for sexual abuse and rape, it’s a fact that he has sexual motives for crimes.

However, we were discussing his motives for videoing his crimes. Your statement is incorrect because CB has no convictions for the possessions of images. His motivation for videoing his crimes is uncertain but I still think, they were for his personal use as we have no confirmation that he ever shared any images or footage.

I am not sure this can be stated as fact. DM’s testimony stated that he recorded it.

The three rapes he was charged with were allegedly recorded but even the crimes haven’t been proven yet.

More curiously though IMO, is that these offences occurred between 2000 and 2006.

What happened after these and before he was arrested in 2017? We don’t know if he committed more rapes and there certainly hasn’t been any reports of any recorded ones.

Does this mean there were no more rapes or no more recordings or both?
