If.... if all that were missing from that unit, were cash and jewelry, would we be surprised if the thief got away without a trace?
If hotel guests were warned loudly not to leave valuables in their units because of an a rash of break-ins, might they have felt less secure about their rotations of check-ins? Was the hotel wary of making such pronouncements because they are counter-tourism?
Was CB in the area to burglarize? Easy money. Quintessential cat burglar. He knew all the tricks. Was he alerted to the presence of intermittently unattended children? Specific children?
Weak example but if in staying at a fault friendly resort and feel safe, I'm leaving my shades open. If the hotel warns me upon arrival of a peeping Tom, I'm shutting my blinds. If I learn about peeping Toms while I'm planning my vacation, I stay somewhere else.
I think the parents had a false sense of security. Like trusting a baby monitor but not realizing it went offline. Checking every 30 minutes wasn't to keep predators away. It was to maintain their sense of security, and it was working. They were extending their adult time, the children stayed asleep, not every parent would choose that but it seemed acceptable to them.
Unfortunately 30 minutes is forever if danger is standing in the shadows.
Could he have opened the window, back up escape insurance, then come in through the door, encountering MM awake or asleep? Easy enough to convince her she's safe, come with me, I know where your mommy and daddy are.
How long would it have taken him to walk off with wallets and baubles? Virtually no time at all. And run with a child? Fast movement draws attention. Walk with purpose, as if you belong there. Which IMO is exactly what was witnessed.
If not MM, how many units might he have hit up that night? Instead he finds MM and disappears into the night, as if he merely collected rich peoples monetary valuables...
I don't think he needed to use any solvent/chloroform at the unit. MM wouldn't have known she was in danger. He's wily.
Back at his vehicle, however, is another story. I think he traveled with her possibly for days, even with his underage "girlfriend", in the vehicle, entirely unaware. He's wily.
Kept MM hidden and perhaps drugged, until he could be alone with her. Where the real nightmare started.
Where's my evidence? Where is there even evidence of a break in, minus the missing child? That doesn't mean he didn't do it; it just means he left no trace. They'd equally no evidence someone else did it.
And CB was likely in the area. Had a history of theft, a history of sex crimes and a purported desire to do exactly such a thing. He had the means, the motive.... as well, the skill to avoid detection. That makes him a HUGE POI. He's wily.
And even now, I don't think he's professing any kind of innocence because he's innocent. No, I think he enjoys the game. Taunting.
I believe LE has evidence he's responsible, she's no longer alive and she died at the hands CB. Where's the evidence? I think it's evidence they can't use, spoilt fruits and all.
Doesn't mean he didn't do it. Just means he remains their one and only SOLID POI.
And he's dodging fate.
Wily.
