Madeleine McCann: German Prisoner Identified as Suspect, #41

I don’t think so. But, if I recall correctly, people ran them off the cigarette lighter and kept them on much of the time.

It’s important to note that this device is not specifically designed for use in a car, it’s more general purpose i.e. hiking, hunting etc. I think CB grew up near the Black Forest, hunting might explain the guns, cruelty etc. Just a thought.

It is not unreasonable that it takes time to gather evidence for the trial of a classic 'stranger danger' offence. Particularly when there is delay in ensuring everyone's rights are respected such as jurisdiction.
My opinion
Yes. Would be a lot of easier if it was like a 1 hour episode a crime drama. What we watch on TV is not how reality works. They’re trying to investigate very old PJ failed cold cases. A very challenging task.

Close range fire with those guns. Bigger guns for hunting.

That’s not entirely true. The BKA’s case is centred around CB who had no inclusion n any part of the PJ’s case.

Why would BKA be interested in previous data on a device before March 2007? If it contains the Malaga data and according to later movements, with other supporting evidence, one could infer he kept the device.
Yeah, to CB it was a valuable item. I think it’s a reasonable assumption that if he had it in April; he had it in May.

Introduced in early 2005 in the US and not replaced until late 2007 - it’s a good option.

So this would take on data all the time it was on the lighter?

I think his childhood experiences better explain his cruelty to animals tbh - not to mention pregnancy related changes to the embryo of a mother who was most possibly a drug addict from what I have inferred jmo. His psychosynthesis could be explained from the moment he was conceived to the terrible treatment he had to endure with his Foster parents. Jmo
I think it’s a fair assumption that whenever the device was ok, the trip data was stored - hence the BKA know all the trips he did while he used the device. Obviously, he kept it because it was found at the box factory in 2016.

In terms of cruelty, I meant he may have gone hunting as a youngster to inflict cruelty on animals he caught or killed. It’s a bit of a stretch but it makes me wonder why he specifically used a handheld gps vs one designed to be used in a car.

According to the Telegraph article the Sat Nav showed he was allegedly in the Algrave post MM.
A GB news article says “Arade”

I think this is also confirmed by his fling with the teenage girl and the pepper spray document he signed at Faro Airport… I’m a bit sketchy on the airport an date but I think it might have been 5/3.

It is not unreasonable that it takes time to gather evidence for the trial of a classic 'stranger danger' offence.

Actually, the whole behaviour of the prosecutor's office in this case is highly unreasonable and atypical. German prosecutors have no penchant for medial shows, usually the best you can get out of them in any case are dry appeals for help and even drier announcements of arrests. HCW publicly naming a suspect while being absolutely unready to cart him into the courtroom is an unprecedented move (and no, the prosecution was not forced by anyone to do that, hazely mentioning a potential German suspect without naming names was not forcing anyone to do anything, that's quite ridiculous suggestion. CB was named as a suspect only by German prosecution).

Now, five years later, the prosecution admitted they still don't have enough to bring CB to the court. Judging by the last case against CB, where prosecution was chewed on by the presiding judge for the quality of their evidence (and the only "evidence" there was anything wrong with that judge were the comments of angry prosecutor) their standards for sufficient evidence are terribly low, yet the evidence in Maddie's case seems to be too weak even for them.

That makes valid the questions about what kind of evidence do they actually have and how comes they did not get anything more during these five years, despite appeals and whatnots. Mind you HCW, asked on January about Maddie's case didn't say "we are working on this", "it has been developing" or anything like that. He said "no prospects for bringing it to the trial". Much more difficult cases, involving multiple victims were wrapped and sent to the court in less than five years (The task force investigating the cold case of Pembrokeshire murders, over twenty years after they were commited, started in 2009, arrested John Cooper in 2011, for example). Yet the Germsn prosecutor office is helpless, even while facing the possibility of their suspect vanishing in about two months. IMO it looks incredibly pale. Either they do not have anything serious on him, or they bungled the investigation big time. Or both.
IMO, obviously.

GA is Detective Chief Bungler , not HCW imo

Deduct a couple of years of interrupted investigation due to covid also.

Yes, that’s fair. OG went deep into the phone data. Do we know if they expanded on the original 72k calls over the three days? I imagine the did.
We know they deep dove for the 3 suspects phone data at the time, imo it's inconceivable that they never knew of CB's alleged call lasting 30 minutes and didn't find it suspicious and investigated it, unless it's incompetence.

They analysed the data looking for suspicious behaviour, what does that look like? I imagine they were focused on calls from 9:00 p.m. onwards. They would then drill down further based on number of calls and the masts they connected to. They were trying to find something unusual.

CB’s call at 7:30 p.m. was from an unknown number and just one of 72k calls. All this says is that there were probably no more calls to or from this number around the critical hours. The call only became suspicious when CB was investigated and this call was a match to him.

He lived in the area so it could be a coincidence, it depends what the emails and sat nav say. This is all the stuff they have, things the put him in the frame without painting his portrait. Just a random’s opinion.

But if you look at the wider angle, reports of strangers staring etc, bogus charity collectors, every thing leading up to the night of the 3rd would be looked at.Surely a cut off point of say 9 pm wasn't the starting point.
