Madonna Adopts 13 Month Old Baby

....what some of these stars are doing, which is more along the lines of "purchasing" a "designer" or "trendy" child....By far, the WORST of the lot is/was Mia Farrow, who bought all kinds of children to satisfy some bizarre need within herself, and then turned the whole thing into a veritable circus of dysfunction.

The average adoptive parent who is adopting for valid reasons, e.g., wanting to have a child but infertility, or genetic disorders prevent pregnancy..., should be very upset at the stars who see kids as another trendy possession to have; half of these biotches hire staff to take care of the kids anyway, and don't really do much "hands on care"....A lot of these so called stars are not in any kind of committed relationship, so the kids don't have any steady mother, and/or father, instead they get the parent of the week, with the nanny who is their only steady influence... I find this whole thing disgusting, actually...

I don't understand why some of these latest celebrities have no loyalty to their own country and the place that has given them all their money and made them famous. There are plenty of kids of all races right here who need a home and would love to be adopted. I agree with some who think that Madonna could have helped this baby's Dad and Granny so that he could stay with his own family. They just couldn't afford to keep the baby it seems. That is not usually the case with kids in these celeb's home country.

Maybe they don't want to be "held up" by the birth parents. I have watched several friends go through the adoption process in this country, and it is a nightmare. The children in our foster care system often have parents who still have some claim to parental rights and would milk a celebrity for everything they could get. I have seen parents lose thousands of dollars trying to adopt, only to have the birth mother change her mind (as is her right). Two close friends have gone to China to adopt because they know no one is ever going to change their mind and come take their babies away. In the US, there is no certainty ever. Even after the adoption is final, there can be complications. They may be rare, but who cares when it is your child that Children's Services is pulling screaming from your arms?

I don't know what Madonna's motivation is, or Angelina's or anyone else's, but I do know that I would never try to adopt in the US. I couldn't handle it when it went sideways.

Perhaps there are celebs who have adopted children from Appalachian orphanages or similar places where there is a great need.
There sure have been, for example Roy and Dale Rogers.

They not only adopted & fostered children, they also lost children.........sad, but yet up-lifting life they had.

They founded a great facility up the hill in Apple Valley for abused children.

Tom's Girl, THANK YOU so much for sharing the information about the Rogers' children's foundation! I have book-marked and e-mailed it. It is now on our family's "short list" for Christmas donations!

Happy trails to you, until we meet again!!!

Apparently Madonna sent the nanny to Malawi to pick up the boy she adopted.

http://www.cnn.com/2006/SHOWBIZ/Music/10/17/malawi.madonna.ap/index.html

"One-year-old David Banda was carried off the Boeing 747 and into the arms of a woman who covered his head with a light gray coat."

and

"Banda was accompanied when he left Lilongwe, Malawi's capital, by two Britons and two Americans, one of whom listed her occupation as nanny, according to a Malawi immigration official at the airport."

The father of the Malawian boy Madonna plans to adopt added a fresh twist to the saga, saying he never intended his son to be adopted by the pop diva, but only for her to raise the child on his behalf.
In an interview with Reuters Television in his home village of Lipunga on Saturday, Yohane Banda said Madonna asked that she be able to raise his one-year-old son on his behalf, rather than that the child should become her own.

"Had they told us that Madonna wanted to adopt my son and make him her own son, we would not have agreed to that," Banda said in his local language of Chichewa.

"It would have been better for him to continue staying at the orphanage because I see no reason why my child should be given away forever when I can feed him," he said,

We have been to Malawi several times and I honestly find it hard to believe that they meant for her to permenantly take this child. Poor as they are it is a very family oriented society. Every time we are there I think about how I would love to bring these children home with me but, needy or not there families are very important to them. There are many orphans in the area we go to they are taken care of by families in the local area. Some are housed in small orphanges with house parents and some take up residence with other families, they are not at all lacking for love. I have often thought that we as Americans could learn for them. They treat the children very well. They have a fasination with Amereicans and may have thought that she would take good care of him for a period of time. I can also tell you that they really would not have a clue that madonna was anything special. There every American is a celebrity.

why the heck doesn't she do charity work in her hometown in detroit?? it's like a third-world country there... plenty of crack babies, AIDS orphans, unwanted kids to adopt. not as "exotic" and cool, i guess.

Madonna's demeanor on Oprah today really bothered me. She's acting like some upper crust English woman now...gag me. (Not that there's anything wrong with being an upper-crust English woman, but the AFFECT was cheesy, imo)

Yeah, i saw that too. Everything about Madonna is for effect .Has the woman done anything that wasn't ever? Although having said that I think the poor boys Dad has a snowballs chance in Hell of getting the poor kid back! I have not doubt officials were only to keen to flaut rules to get her a child. While some may say the child will have a great opportunity with her I feel sad for him. Especially as the Father now wants him back. Why did she just not help ny adopting some unwanted British or American child? I worry that taking kids from 3rd World countries is going to start a celeb trend. What about the saying"charity begins at home? Just my opinion not meant to offend anyone.

The fake accent really is over the top, she's from Detroit for goodness sake. Over and over she repeated she did this to give the boy "a life." The kid would have had a life, just not a privileged one. I had to turn Oprah off, Madonna is truly the most hypocritical celebrity out there.

I can't wait for her children to see her coffee table book, Sex. God this woman makes my blood boil and she is not worth anymore of my time.

Not sure if the child would have had a life. From what I've read, the child had just recovered from malaria and was seriously ill with pneumonia when Madonna visited him in the orphanage. She apparently made it possible for the child to get antibiotic treatment at a clinic, which may have saved his life. It could be spin, but the stats speak for themselves, infant mortality is higher than 10% in Malawi compared to 0.5% in developed nations. Against those stats, I'm not sure I care about her motives, her accent or her book.

I agree that the adoption was a good thing. I was commenting about how off-putting her demeanor was. There was very little warmth there. She was kinda scary, imo.

That said, David is an adorable little boy! I'm glad he received the medical attention he so desperately needed.

Putting aside my views of Madonna - she did make one very valid point in that for people who do want to honestly adopt this is a discouraging issue. By the same token it highlights some of the potential difficulties that may be encountered.

One child saved from any orphanage is a good thing IMO proivided they end up in a good and loving home that provides the means and desire to insure their culture remains a part of their lives. In this case it seems to me ,that Mr. Banda has recently become aware of who Madonna actually is, and has decided...money talks. JMO.

Wow! How do you really feel?

Although I somewhat understand what you are saying, we should be cognizant of the fact that what you truly know about her is what you read in the media and tabloids...not necessarily gospel imho. Just making a point- forge ahead.
